Jeremy Corbyn

I see so many posters saying they won’t vote for Labour as they don’t like Jeremy Corbyn - why? If the Labour policies are good then why not vote for those rather than the leader?

What are Labour's policies? Corbyn seems to change his mind every 5 mins.

In Wales we are governed by a Labour Government. Our NHS service is literally scraping by. It takes a minimum of 4 weeks to get an apt with a GP. There is no chance of being admitted to hospital - no beds. Urgent operations are being cancelled daily..... My DS has been waiting 18 months for "urgent" heart scans. He has a history of heart problems since birth.

Didn't Labour put in their manifesto, before the last election, that they would scrap student tuition fees and write off student debt? That hasn't happened has it?

Labour...meh! Bunch of liars.. Hell will freeze over before I vote Labour ever again. Wales can't wait to see the end of Labour!

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 14:55

Orange the Welsh NHS came up just earlier in PMQs. The reason it's struggling is it's starved of cash my the tories

God I just re-read and I'm so sorry to hear about your ds Flowers

dadshere · 30/10/2019 15:00

I love the tories coming on here and posting along the lines of, "Now is not the time for..." For what exactly? A fairer more equal society? Better health service, protection from the US health vultures? Better education? stronger protections for working people? A better pension? Tories always have been and always will be the party of the wealthy, wo dislike paying taxes and like to blame the unemployed or foreigners for all the country's problems.

dadshere · 30/10/2019 15:02

Orange Twirl,
"Didn't Labour put in their manifesto, before the last election, that they would scrap student tuition fees and write off student debt? That hasn't happened has it? "

No actually they didn't, but even if they decided to put that in their manifesto. THEY HAVE TO BE THE GOVERNING PARTY. Is that hard to understand? The tories are the party in charge of the UK, not labour.

dadshere · 30/10/2019 15:03

BelleSausage:
"Let’s be clear- if Corbyn resigned today the Labour vote share would jump up.

But he won’t. Because he is too selfish and will lead the party to it’s worst election drubbing in decades."

No, let's be clear. If Corbyn resigned Labour would get smashed at the next election. He won't, we won't. Dream on.

OrangeTwirl · 30/10/2019 15:05

Labour are the governing party in Wales! Anyway just geared Labour MP Owen Smith has resigned. There will, undoubtedly, be others to follow. Labour has no chance of winning this election under Corbyn.

Usernumbers1234 · 30/10/2019 15:06

“First of all, we want to get rid of student fees altogether ...

“We’ll do it as soon as we get in, and we’ll then introduce legislation to ensure that any student going from the 2017-18 academic year will not pay fees. They will pay them, but we’ll rebate them when we’ve got the legislation through – that’s fundamentally the principle behind it.“

It might not have made the manifesto. But he did say it.

Thought your point stands that you kind of have to be in power to carry through on your pre election promises!!!

OrangeTwirl · 30/10/2019 15:07

No actually they didn't

Yes they did!

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 15:07

I know so many people who (unfortunately) don't want to vote Labour due to JC. It's not a myth.

I hope they realise that it's the only way to hold the tories back.

I reckon he'll resign soon enough anyway

OrangeTwirl · 30/10/2019 15:09

And Labour are the Governing Party in Wales! Not for much longer..

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 15:13

It's like when there's a council with a Labour majority, under a Tory government, and they cut services all over the place and Labour gets a terrible reputation.

Why might they be having to cut services I wonder!!

FaFoutis · 30/10/2019 15:18

It's almost impossible to get a reliable impression of JC. All of our media portray him in a negative way.
Should he stand aside because of this massive media bias? It's not 'fair' but he probably should; Kier Starmer could win an election.

Writersblock2 · 30/10/2019 15:19

He’s a misogynistic prick. I’m not voting for him or Boris.

CendrillonSings · 30/10/2019 15:19

I reckon he'll resign soon enough anyway

Brilliant campaign slogan: "Vote for our clapped-out loser leader, but don't worry, we'll get rid of him soon!" Grin

GrimDamnFanjo · 30/10/2019 15:22

The thing is the damage JC and Momentum have done to Labour will last for a generation. The exodus of Labour talent leaving is breathtaking. The selection battles In Local constituencies have been awful, as the moderates are booted out.
Look at the shadow cabinet- wouldn't want most of them making policy for me.
What a wasted opportunity all for the sake of factional infighting.

mrsm43s · 30/10/2019 15:22

Just because the Tories are shit, doesn't mean that Labour are good. Just because you don't support Labour doesn't mean one is automatically a Tory.

I won't currently vote Labour because I don't believe the policies that are currently coming from the JC lead Labour Party would be beneficial for the country. He is leading an extreme left wing party. A different leader who wasn't as far left could have policies that better align with my belief system. I'm typically a floating voter with a slight lean to the left, but JC is too far left and his politics and values don't align with mine, so I won't vote for him. As an aside, I find him a poor leader, dishonourable and weak, I disagree with his Brexit views (he's a leaver!), and I'm horrified by the Anti-Semitism in the Labour Party.

Whilst JC is leader, I will categorically not vote Labour.
I also won't vote Tory.

Currently veering toward Lib Dems as the least bad party, but I have my concerns there too.

I would sooner spoil my vote than vote Tory or Labour in the current political climate.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/10/2019 15:23

Corbyn won’t resign

And sadly his disciples within the Labour Party Membership will keep him in place

Oh you know it’s a he biggest party membership in Europe is trotted out again and again Hmm so what how does that help labour polices being put in place if they don’t win an election

Beveren · 30/10/2019 15:23

If the Conservatives win the election, virtually the only thing that would console me slightly would be Corbyn's immediate resignation. It's been horrendous that, over the last three years, the Conservatives have been presenting him with an open goal and, if anything, he's been in there staunchly helping them to defend it.

I'll be voting Conservative in the interests of business as I have done since I graduated.

Great idea. Hope you don’t ever need the NHS as it won’t be there when you do. You can’t go private for everything...

Regrettably?

I’m sorry the nhs screwed up your care. That’s unacceptable, as demonstrated by your successful legal cases.

Selling off services to US pharmaceutical companies won’t improve services. What could improve services is electing a government that will properly fund them.

I’ve had extensive dealings with the nhs and not always perfect, to put it mildly. But I’d definitely be bankrupt without it.

SweetSummerchild · 30/10/2019 15:49

I’m a floating voter who has voted for pretty much all the major parties in my adult life (not UKIP/Brexit).

At the moment I haven’t seen a Labour Party manifesto for 2019, so can’t be certain of their policies. However, there are certain policies they think are a ‘good idea’ that I couldn’t get behind.

  • abolishing private schools and redistributing their lands
  • forcing companies to ‘give’ 10% of their shares to staff (who then can’t buy and sell them so they remain held ‘in trust’ by the government)
  • introducing a ‘lifetime gift limit’ on individuals instead of IHT. How the hell is this workable?
  • extending RTB to all tenants
  • renegotiating a ‘worst of both worlds’ Brexit deal and then presenting it against Remain in a PV
  • introducing a ‘property tax’ which sounds as appealing as Poll Tax 2.0

How much of this makes the actual manifesto as policy is anyone’s guess. He has bog all chance of achieving a majority, so even if it did the more batshit crazy legislation would require the backing of LD and SNP so may not make the final cut to begin with

  • nationalisation of private companies

To win this GE Labour DO NOT have to convince the ‘I’d never vote Tory, they’re all scum’ brigade who are out in force on MN today. They need to convince people like me. They are utterly failing. Shout at me that I’m wrong all you like, it doesn’t change the fact that the JC led Labour Party have a huge mountain to climb to convince swing voters that they should vote for them.
