How are you voting in December?

Apologies if there’s already a thread on this - I did look and couldn’t find one.

So now it’s been confirmed that we’re having a GE in December, how are you voting? And what are your predictions on the results?

I’ve seen quite a few posts on here over the past couple months from people saying they wouldn’t vote now as they are politically homeless - wondering if these people still feel that way?

I’m voting labour - albeit in a very safe Tory area (so feel very much as though my vote doesn’t count). Reasons being I would never vote Tory and I don’t like a lot of what the Lim Dems have said recently. I also couldn’t bring myself not to vote at all.

@LagunaBubbles i’m not even Scottish & I hope the tories get wiped out too up there- it could be the thing that decides the election now Ruth Davidson has gone

Bickles · 30/10/2019 07:54

Really struggling. Normally vote Tory in a swing seat- Tory/ Labour.
We have a Labour MP at the moment who seems sensible - not like Corbyn! He has a tiny majority. He’s a Remainer in a Leave area and got in last time on a local issue (stopping an incinerator).
I am a Remainer and care more about stopping Brexit than about most other things at the moment.
I think I’m fairly central these days and fit LibDem best.
So LibDem in a seat where they come nowhere normally? Or Labour as a one off to hopefully stop Brexit?

Oilyskinproblems · 30/10/2019 07:55

Who cares. Conservatives will win regardless. My area is a conservative safe seat anyway so there’s no point me even bothering. Might go spoil the paper - but politics is depressing the life out of me lately.

BonnesVacances · 30/10/2019 07:55

No idea. My MP lost the Tory whip so I think he'll stand as an independent. Though I'm waiting for him to confirm that. But this is a remain constituency and he supports the WA and always has done, so I think there is a good chance for the Lib Dem candidate.

But I like my current MP, despite having been previously Conservative, as he's a bloody good MP and has helped me out on two occasions (albeit as a result of Tory policy Hmm). I'm also not impressed with our Lib Dem candidate. So who knows?

kittlesticks · 30/10/2019 07:56

It'll be my first ever vote for the Lib Dems having previously always voted labour.

AmIThough · 30/10/2019 07:56

@BonnesVacances are they not one of the 10 Boris is reinstating?

ilovehalloween · 30/10/2019 07:57

@StealthPolarBear one of my reasons is that she thinks men can become women by just saying they are.

Sceptre86 · 30/10/2019 07:57

Dh wants to spoil his ballot paper which is a shame . I will probably vote SNP as they are the better option for my area. I would never vote Tory, their ideals don't in any way match mine!

ShatnersWig · 30/10/2019 07:57

Stealth Because if we have another hung Parliament we will be in precisely the same position we are in now and we can't go on much longer (whichever way you voted in the referendum). What they going to do in six months, call another one?

The idea that this GE will "solve" Brexit is ludicrous UNLESS one party wins a decent working majority. Which cannot be guaranteed.

ilove You can write whatever you like on it.

TattiePants · 30/10/2019 07:58

Despite being a Labour Party member, I had vowed not to vote for them whilst Corbyn was in charge and have voted LibDem in the local / EU elections. I’m in a traditional working class northern city that has always been a Labour stronghold but I’m worried the Brexit Party will get in this time so I guess I’ll have to hold my nose and vote Labour.

MaMaMaMySharona · 30/10/2019 07:58

Sometimes I feel as though I read completely different newspapers to everyone else!

Just in the past week there have been huge concerns over how the new Brexit deal threatens workers rights, members of the Tories have openly stated they don't want 16-17 year olds allowed to vote because it won't benefit their party (because they offer zero to the younger generations of this country) - Johnson even started out his campaign stating that he wanted to cut taxes for higher salary brackets!

I can't get my head around how anyone would think they're going to represent them in any way.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 30/10/2019 07:58

Thank you :)
Yes that's pretty crap. I don't know how the other parties feel about that but I suspect the conservatives aren't big on women's rights

Samcro · 30/10/2019 07:58

labour. would never vote Tory.

StealthPolarBear · 30/10/2019 07:59

Thanks shatners. If the conservatives win what do you think will happen? Does that mean hell get his deal through easily?

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 30/10/2019 08:00

I am not voting, can anyone explain the spoiled ballot and a point of it, please?

MonnaLIza · 30/10/2019 08:01

LabourSmile

motueka03 · 30/10/2019 08:01

@MaMaMaMySharona I don’t think people read papers most of the time! And a LOT of people read the mail/scum which are both propaganda papers for the right.
Totally agree with you - I don’t get how anyone can believe the tories are out for them though unless they are a tax dodging multi millionaire

Vinorosso74 · 30/10/2019 08:01

Labour. I don't agree with Corbyn on Brexit but he has been a good MP, yes he is my MP.

No way will I ever vote Tory, no to Lib Dems after they joined up with the Tories.

exLtEveDallas · 30/10/2019 08:01

Spoiling.

There is absolutely no one I can vote for. Lab, Lib Dem, Green, WEP have all thrown women under the bus for the Woke brigade and the Cons are the Cons.

So no choice.

Jenasaurus · 30/10/2019 08:01

People voting as a form of protest assuming that their vote won’t make a difference may be surprised. I wonder how many people voted leave assuming it was just a protest about some aspects of remaining and that remain would be the outcome

Iggly · 30/10/2019 08:02

I’m more scared of Boris Johnson as PM (he’s a racist, sexist liar on a scale unseen before in a PM) than I am of Jeremy Corbyn

So I’m going to vote tactically. We are a safe Tory seat so I’ll be voting for which ever party is likely to kick out them out.

Under the watch of the conservatives, tens of thousands of people have died due to having their benefits cruelly cut. On that basis alone, I cannot see how anyone can vote for them.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 30/10/2019 08:02

Oh. It's spoilt ballotBlush

notangelinajolie · 30/10/2019 08:02

Conservative. Current Conservative MP is a Brexiteer and although it is Remain round here I think he will still win. The only party closest enough to catch him is Labour and I can't see them gaining at this particular point in time.

MaMaMaMySharona · 30/10/2019 08:03

@SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated my understanding is that you're showing your willingness/ability to vote, but making a statement that none of the parties represent what you want. Spoiled ballots are still counted and reported on.

OP posts:
ShatnersWig · 30/10/2019 08:03

Sharona Yet 16 and 17 year olds can be members of the Tory party and can vote on their choice of leader. As many did with Boris Johnson. Hypocrisy everywhere, isn't it?

The GE will, for many people, be a one issue election - Brexit. But GEs are, or should, be about five year's worth of policies. Another reason making a bold statement that a GE is the only way to solve Brexit is ludicrous by itself. And I think this GE will end up going more like an American presidential contest and be very much about "who is worse, Johnson or Corbyn?" rather than "which party's policies, not the leader, do I think will do best for the country or my constituency".
