How are you voting in December?

Apologies if there’s already a thread on this - I did look and couldn’t find one.

So now it’s been confirmed that we’re having a GE in December, how are you voting? And what are your predictions on the results?

I’ve seen quite a few posts on here over the past couple months from people saying they wouldn’t vote now as they are politically homeless - wondering if these people still feel that way?

I’m voting labour - albeit in a very safe Tory area (so feel very much as though my vote doesn’t count). Reasons being I would never vote Tory and I don’t like a lot of what the Lim Dems have said recently. I also couldn’t bring myself not to vote at all.

I'm with you Laurie. As if these people don't make use of all that their taxes pay for! My DH is a high earner and pays a lot of tax...he was moaning about it and I couldn't believe it! He has four children all born in NHS hospitals and attending state schools! At least he had the wit to be embarrassed.

And as for people complaining about supporting the welfare system...they should fucking try living on benefits! Just unbelievably heartless.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/10/2019 20:42

@DBML yes, you work hard and so do many others earning much less than you. No doubt some of them work harder and I bet they whinge less.

DBML · 30/10/2019 20:43

@FadingStar

Well, if Labour get into government, I’m going part time and won’t bother working like I do. What would be the point. I’ll reduce what I pay into the system and DH can do the same. We’ll down size and enjoy more of each other’s company now. Actually, that doesn’t sound like a bad plan. Now, I really do have work to get in with.

Flatwhite32 · 30/10/2019 20:44

Well that's nice for you @DBML. Some families want their child with SEN to have help at school, or get in to a school appropriate for their needs, but the Tories don't give a shit about them. I would like my school to have money to deal with the mould in our classrooms, but we haven't got the money in the budget to do so properly due to Tory cuts. Is your kid at a state school?

57Varieties · 30/10/2019 20:45

@DBML you seem to be quite impressed with yourself and think you’re something special. Lots of us are in a similar position to you, having worked extremely hard to get where they are and wishing we could have a better life. But any one of us could get ill and have to stop work and earning money tomorrow. Any one of us could have a disabled child who needs help they’re not getting. It’s not a given that you’ll always have the lifestyle and the capacity for earning you do or that your children will have the same.

TheGirlWithTheArabStrap · 30/10/2019 20:49

Labour. I've worked in the NHS for 19 years under Labour and Conservatives, and I'm desperate to get back to a Labour government.
If we got a Labour Government I would actually cry with joy.

LaurieMarlow · 30/10/2019 20:50

I don’t think others have the right to come along and call people selfish, because they’d actually like to keep some of their hard earned money.

You were blessed with talent and opportunities. You almost certainly don’t work any harder than average, people continually over estimate the impact they’ve had in their own success.

And yes, if you’re more concerned with sticking it to the very minimal number of people who scam the system than those who’ve actually died because of austerity measures, when you yourself have a very decent income, I’ll call you selfish.

57Varieties · 30/10/2019 20:51

there are people out there who still feel entitled to my money. “Rich and selfish”. Piss off.

Yeah you tell them! People suffering from cancer who can’t work having the cheek to want your money to pay for their treatment! Disabled kids sitting with their hands out and their “entitlement” to an education that meets their needs! They can fuck off, so long as you’re alright!

duckling84 · 30/10/2019 20:52

Labour but it's a conservative safe seat that has never ever been labour (it was liberal briefly between 1929 and 1931 though) so voting sometimes feels pointless. Still, I will exercise my democratic right

WrongKindOfFace · 30/10/2019 20:53

For who ever in my area has the balls to get brexit done.

Well I hope they’re in it for the long game because we’ve only just started. It won’t be ‘done’ for years (and fucking years).

Flatwhite32 · 30/10/2019 20:56

@57Varieties - I couldn't agree more! Some people's selfishness astounds me.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/10/2019 20:58

Can't believe people on such high salaries who trot out "where's my incentive for working hard?" Er, maybe your high salary?

The people who should be saying "where's my incentive for working hard" are the retail staff who are working 60 hour weeks on minimum wage and still treated like shit by their employers, the teachers who are spending their own money on school supplies due to lack of funding, the NHS workers who are also stretched to the brink on very little funding, the health care assistants who have to deal with daily abuse. I could continue.

FadingStar · 30/10/2019 20:58

DBML...you moan about holidays?? There are people starving on the streets! There are people with disabilities desperate for help and support but your precious Tories have chucked them on the scrapheap. There are countless families reaching out to food banks. People sick with worry when they can't get work to pay bills and put food in their families' mouths. You are so, so fortunate. But you still want more and to hell with the poor, the sick, the disabled.

cheesemumma · 30/10/2019 21:01

Im with a lot of others and am truly shocked anyone would vote tory. So sad to see that people don't care one jot about the most vulnerable in our society. It breaks my heart. Don't tell me you do, because tory policy has literally killed people, yet you still want more. Everyone else, if tories do win again, please keep being kind.

WellErrr · 30/10/2019 21:04

Im with a lot of others and am truly shocked anyone would vote tory.

I am truly shocked that anyone would vote Labour under Corbyn.

L00seM00se · 30/10/2019 21:05

Lots of us are higher tax payers. Still don’t want more of the shit we’ve had under Conservative or labour,so I’ll be voting Lib Dem.

My dh would like to keep his opportunities as a higher tax payer, not likely under the Tories. Will be far less likely that my teen dc will be higher tax payers after uni under the Tories too. They’ve had European uni ops snatched from them, facing massive student fees, their science and engineering sectors under huge pressures from Brexit, the European job market also snatched away......

All thanks to the Conservatives. Do people really want more of this? Have you been in schools and hospitals recently;tried to get a gp appointment, looked at crime figures;are you enjoying the division; looking forward to the UK being split up.....?

cheesemumma · 30/10/2019 21:06

@AnswertheQuestion why oh why would you vote tory? Even if you cant vite labour-green/libdems? Someone with a little moral standing and empathy surely?!?!

GlitchStitch · 30/10/2019 21:08

I am truly shocked that anyone would vote Labour under Corbyn

Me too.

12548ehe9fnfobms · 30/10/2019 21:11

I'm voting Labour. Two reasons:

1\ NHS - All the money, foreign holidays, posh cars mean absolutely nothing when you wait too long for cancer treatment & die as a result. Waiting times are at record levels. It's a shocking state of affairs in a rich country. Also, Boris et al will sell the NHS to US Healthcare.

2\ Education. State schools are chronically underfunded.

I don't trust the Lib Dems. They are responsible for Brexit & austerity by going into coalition with Torys. They will do it again.

Flatwhite32 · 30/10/2019 21:16

@DBML has disappeared! Funny that!

notdaddycool · 30/10/2019 21:21

Conservative, Corbyn can never become PM, the country is far from perfect but his front bench would be an utter disaster.

Sunshine93 · 30/10/2019 21:23

DBML yep that's the rich and selfish I was talking about.

It's always the same bollocks, " I work hard I have earned my month travelling the globe" do nurses and teaching assistants not work hard? Do cleaners not deserve a holiday too? Do people who are disabled or unable to work not deserve anything either? Or is there criteria for the people who deserve to receive a measly portion of the money you have worked so hard to earn? Perhaps disabled people are ok it's just the unemployed who don't deserve it?

I only hope you never need the welfare state you so despise.

Clearly the Tory party was made for people like you. You havent managed to answer my question about the reason people vote for them. I mean people who are not rich.

Sunshine93 · 30/10/2019 21:24

@GlitchStitch why?

SallyWD · 30/10/2019 21:24

Labour. I'm 100% behind them (and that includes Corbyn)

GlitchStitch · 30/10/2019 21:25

Because he's a raging anti-Semite for starters. And that's before we get onto the misogyny. I despise him.
