How are you voting in December?

Apologies if there’s already a thread on this - I did look and couldn’t find one.

So now it’s been confirmed that we’re having a GE in December, how are you voting? And what are your predictions on the results?

I’ve seen quite a few posts on here over the past couple months from people saying they wouldn’t vote now as they are politically homeless - wondering if these people still feel that way?

I’m voting labour - albeit in a very safe Tory area (so feel very much as though my vote doesn’t count). Reasons being I would never vote Tory and I don’t like a lot of what the Lim Dems have said recently. I also couldn’t bring myself not to vote at all.

Labour

Labour I saw this before and it convinced me
I am not a huge fan of Jeremy Corbyn, I don't think he has been the opposition leader needed regarding Brexit, the fact that he is a Eurosceptic and goes against the many remain MP's that make up the Labour Party, has often had me decide against his position, but I don't want a Tory government for another 5 years of austerity, so I have looked into him more closely in readiness for the December GE. Especially as to vote tactically I will need to vote for Labour.

I have always had a lot of respect for him. He is a man that has always stood by what he believes is right, seems to be honest, in comparison to other MP's. When compared to Boris Johnson, who has only looked out for what is best for his career, having written an article both supporting remaining in the EU and Leaving, Jeremy Corbyn is the better option. But what else makes me respect him?

In the 1980's, Jeremy, was seen as wrong for standing up for those wrongfully accused of the IRA bombings, the Guildford 4 and the Birmingham 6, yet he was right and they were later found to be innocent of these crimes. Many still hold this against him, but they were innocent of the crimes.

He was criticised for wanting dialogue over the Northern Ireland border, but again his campaigning for removing the hard border and bringing about peace was also correct. Leading to the Good Friday Agreement. Again, this is still held against him because he wanted peace. He had over and over again said he condemns the bombings, but because he also states he condemns the violent actions on both side he is criticised. When I see a man that sticks to his principles when it comes to conflict.

He is a man that stands by his ideals of peace over war, over and over again, even when it has been held against him and prevented his career moving forward. He entered politics to make a positive change to the UK and not to have power, demonstrated by his track record of not bending to what he believes is wrong. He has won 2 prestigious awards for his consistent efforts over 30 years to bring about peace. The Sean McBride Peace Prize and the Gandhi International Peace Award.

He has always been active in campaigns that oppose nuclear weapons, was a member of the STOP the War Coalition and is in opposition of spending £100 billion on the renewal of Britains Trident Nuclear Missile System, something 64% of the general public agree with him on.

He has been the elected MP in his constituency since 1983, 36 years. This in itself is an outstanding achievement and means that those he represents continue to trust him to do what is right for their area.

He has the backing of Trade Unions, specifically the two largest in Britain, Unite the Union and Unison, representing 2.5 million people in this country, due to his stance on protecting the rights of workers. Something that the Tory party is not interested in.

Rather than wanting to support further decades of tax cuts for the super rich, as the Tories do, he wants to ensure that tax evasion is stopped, worth £34 billion to the UK economy, increasing tax to those that earn over £150,000 per year and higher still for those earning over £1 million a year. Something that is supported by 75% of the public, and means the poorest won't be hit the most, as the austerity measures of the Tories has done.

He is against using personal attacks to get his point of view across, which is something I really do admire when you see the antics of many of the political party leaders.

35 of the countries best economists have backed his sensible policies that will help the economy to grow. In fact recent study, by the Institute of Fiscal Studies, have shown that the country under a Jeremy Corbyn government would bring about a stronger economy, whereas the Tories austerity measures have been proven to have stopped growth, helped further by brexit uncertainty.

He has the lowest expenses of ALL the MP's, stating " I think we should claim what we need to run our offices and pay our staff, but be careful because it's obviously public money".

His policy on tuition fees is to reduce them, if not abolish if possible through a sensible plan to cover the cost. I benefitted from free university education and believe that this is a right all students in the UK should have.

So, he is probably not the Prime Minister I would ideally want, but from the options we have he is probably the best option. In this, the most important GE Britain will have, we need a party that is truly for the people. My preferred Party doesn't have a chance, but Labour are the next big thing.

Plus, if you want it to be about Brexit:

Jeremy Corbyn is a Eurosceptic and wants out of the EU, but not without a deal which will kill our country. He is the only party offering the chance to get a EU deal and offer the Public the chance to vote on what it offers. Using democracy to make the final decision. I obviously hope that this will lead to remaining, but that is not guaranteed if Labour get in, but at least the country will have the chance to make a decision based on real, true facts and not just based on the lies of the Leave Campaign.

The Tories keep failing to get anywhere on Brexit because what they want is not in line with the countries needs. A new deal negotiated by labour may give supporters of Brexit the best option. If not, at least the chance for the country to vote on the facts.

That said, a GE shouldn't be about the one issue of Brexit, it should be about the effect the chosen government will have on our lives for the next 5 years, and what will make your life better, after 9 years of Tory austerity measures we know first hand they are not the ones that will do this, unless you are super rich.

VOTE wisely. It does count.

Not sure if you misunderstand Corbyn's position but he campaigned to remain in the last referendum and has promised a new people's vote. If we did leave under him (because that's what the people voted for) we would stay in the single market and customs union it would be a far better outcome that Johnson's hard leave. Especially for NI.

@maddy68, thanks for your post. The funny thing is, I agree with most of what you wrote! I like the policies Corbyn stands for and the stances he has taken in the past, and that's why I voted for him before. But I've been taken aback by his lack of political sense, notably over both anti-semitism and Brexit.

midnightmisssuki · 30/10/2019 18:00

Conservatives always.

Daisy03 · 30/10/2019 18:02

I don’t want JC for PM but will vote labour tactically to block the tories for the sake of a softer or no brexit. Unfortunately I think tories or even worse a coalition or tories and brexit party will win just because people can’t get past the right wing press image of Corbyn everyone’s been fed

Ringdonna · 30/10/2019 18:03

Tory as always. Best for me and my family.

Scunnered03 · 30/10/2019 18:06

SNP

M3lon · 30/10/2019 18:07

I'm voting green

It won't matter a damn if we are in or out the EU when the oceans start to boil.....

Tistheseason17 · 30/10/2019 18:09

I could NEVER vote Tory.

They look after the rich to the detriment of the poorest and most vulnerable.

I am struggling with Labour as they have not represented Remain effectively and Jeremy is extreme left wing.

It will be Lib Dems or Green this time. It will only be a Remain party.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 30/10/2019 18:10

Conservative

FadingStar · 30/10/2019 18:11

I'm struggling to think of anything positive the Tories have done in the last nine years. I'm sure the Tory voters could help with that one.

bluebeck · 30/10/2019 18:12

Labour.

Most of the people voting Tory are like turkeys voting for Christmas Sad

VanGoghsDog · 30/10/2019 18:15

he campaigned to remain in the last referendum and has promised a new people's vote. If we did leave under him (because that's what the people voted for) we would stay in the single market and customs union it would be a far better outcome that Johnson's hard leave.

A) he didn't campaign well enough, he was lackadaisical. His core Labour voters still believe in Brexit so he failed to convince them, failed to lead. He doesn't really believe we should stay in.

B) his 'promise' is not worth much, he's changed his mind so many times. And it took him well over three years to reach this position. That's not good leadership.

C) there is no other deal. Why he thinks the EU would agree with what he wants is beyond me. Why he believes he could get Parliament to vote for it even if they did agree is even further behind me. He has Brexiters and hard leavers in his own party. We know this is an issue people will resign over, lose the whip etc, and with him being such a weak leader and having so little respect in the PLP (though doubtless Momentum will try to change that by bringing in new candidates) I can't see how he could get any legislation through.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 30/10/2019 18:21

I don’t know. Our sitting mp is resigning and I couldn’t stand them so no idea.

Kpo58 · 30/10/2019 18:21

I have no idea who I'm going to vote for. Either the Lib Dems or Conservatives will win in my area, as they always do.

Nat6999 · 30/10/2019 18:21

I'm voting Labour, my MP works tirelessly for her constituency, supports community events & the rights of women. Doesn't anyone voting Tory realise that this election has been called by Boris to waste the 3 month extension he didn't want & so afterwards he can push through his awful deal. The whole country has the chance now to stop his childish games by voting him out & giving someone else a chance of stopping us crashing out in to the wilderness. I voted to leave after believing the lies we were sold about funding for the NHS, I didn't vote for Boris to sell the NHS to the highest bidder & given the chance again would vote to remain.

puppy23 · 30/10/2019 18:23

I really can't decide and, if anyones got any advice, feel free to offer it!

Politically I'm 100% Lib Dem, especially when it comes to Brexit, and I love my local LD candidate. BUT, I worry that would be a wasted vote, as a LD government wouldn't happen and neither will a coalition. That said, with Brexit, LD are probably the main remainer party, and I am expecting their vote numbers to boom.

I live in a Tory stronghold, it has been for years, 9 thousand ahead of Labour at the last election. However, Labour got 3x the vote of LD, and, with increased numbers of younger people available to vote, Labour have the best shot of breaking the Tory hold. BUT, Labour has no real Brexit policy, at least as of right now, and Corbyn himself is not a remainer and, lets face it, Brexit is what this election is really about.

FluffyFreya · 30/10/2019 18:23

SNP and I hope to god the tories are wiped out in Scotland.

Mydogisbeingadick · 30/10/2019 18:24

Reluctantly voting LibDem but not happy about it.

I can’t stand what the Labour Party has become and there’s no way in hell i’m voting Tory.

I think the conservatives will get in though...

Sunshine93 · 30/10/2019 18:24

The EU have actually made it ear that if we wanted a closer arrangement they would be open to this. It's not that there is no more negotiation it's more that they won't give anything for nothing.

You may believe that he didn't campaign well enough but that's a separate point to believing that he supports Brexit. It's my belief that the media didn't cover remainers as much as it covered leaners especially members of the labour oarty. The bias is quite clear to anyone who walked past the newspaper aisle at any shop today. In reality he has defeated May and Johnson over Brexit several times in parliament. Had he taken a different stance we would be out by now with May's deal.

As for the idea that he could change his mind his record speaks for a itself, he has always been a man of integrity. It's Boris Johnson who has repeatedly lied and the Tories who have had u turn after u turn. As a previous poster said it's like turkeys voting for Christmas if you vote for Johnson because of some "feeling" that Corbyn won't be up to the job.

It's the right wing media that's made you think that.

Amanduh · 30/10/2019 18:25

Tory. But MN annoys me in the fact that you can’t POSSIBLY have made an informed poltical decision for a main political party without only getting your facts from the daily mail. Honestly, how fucking patronising and ignorant.

ForalltheSaints · 30/10/2019 18:26

Lib Dem if I think there is a chance they can unseat my Tory Brexiteer MP, or Green if not.

FadingStar · 30/10/2019 18:31

I would love to hear great reasons why people are voting Tory and the positive things they will bring to people, especially the most vulnerable. I honestly don't recall hearing them.Confused If people could tell us why it would be great for the Tories to win I would love it...might make me feel better.

I think the facts about the Tories speak for themselves, who needs the Daily Mail.
