How are you voting in December?

Apologies if there’s already a thread on this - I did look and couldn’t find one.

So now it’s been confirmed that we’re having a GE in December, how are you voting? And what are your predictions on the results?

I’ve seen quite a few posts on here over the past couple months from people saying they wouldn’t vote now as they are politically homeless - wondering if these people still feel that way?

I’m voting labour - albeit in a very safe Tory area (so feel very much as though my vote doesn’t count). Reasons being I would never vote Tory and I don’t like a lot of what the Lim Dems have said recently. I also couldn’t bring myself not to vote at all.

Conservative

AgeLikeWine · 30/10/2019 14:00

I could never vote Tory, except as a tactical vote to keep out a far-right candidate, eg BNP. I’m a former Labour activist, but I will not vote for the party again while Corbyn is leader.

I will vote Liberal Democrat, because their policy is Stop Brexit.

Limer · 30/10/2019 14:03

Conservative

ForeverFaff · 30/10/2019 14:05

@MaMaMaMySharona in what world is mumsnet pro brexit!?!? The few leavers who dare to speak out have been mostly driven away by the remainers on here. Mumsnet is a lefty bubble.

Hingeandbracket · 30/10/2019 14:06

although I'm aware MN is generally quite pro-Brexit).
Assume that is a typo - MN is 99% vociferous remainers

penisbeakers · 30/10/2019 14:08

@MamamamySharona Tories are arseholes so they don't care what shit their party gets up to.

Labour voter here.

Lockheart · 30/10/2019 14:09

Lib Dem probably, although possibly Labour, I haven't decided yet.

I wish we could stop with the mud slinging and name calling. Everyone is entitled to vote for whoever they want, even if we disagree on how to vote, and that vote is valid.

I would also like to point out that you're voting for your regional MP, not the party leader. The only way you can vote for Corbyn is if you happen to live in Islington, for example.

And I would encourage everyone who really can't decide who to vote for to spoil your ballot.

In the 2015 general election there were more absent voters than people who voted Conservative. Had they been a political party the non-voters would have won by quite a way.

So please don't ignore it or refuse to take part. There's a lot of political power there which isn't being harnessed and could completely change the political landscape in the UK.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 30/10/2019 14:13

I am traditionally a floating voter but as it stands no one appeals to me.

Not a fan of boris but there might yet be something in his manifesto that will gain my vote.
No way would I vote Lib Dem and I would only consider voting labour if they ditched Jeremy and his cohorts.

Pretty bleak pickings

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 14:18

As a Labour party member, I want to say Please bear with us, normal service will be resumed shortly.

Though tbf it might take a couple of years.

I so want to do that gritted teeth emoji at this point. Even better, with a Halloween hat on it

Joans3rddaughter · 30/10/2019 14:22

I have a long memory. Cannot forgive (Sir) Nick Clegg for lying about tuition fees or (Sir) Danny Alexander for wrecking public sector pensions. Jo Swinson and Lib Dems should be ashamed of their unprofessional "Bollocks to Brexit" campaign (though that has gone quiet now. Previous Labour Governments mantra "help for hard working families" only interested in families, did nothing for hard working singles and this lot sound the same. Labour is now so left wing so will be voting Conservative.

MaMaMaMySharona · 30/10/2019 14:25

@posterForeverFaff & @Hingeandbracket YES sorry that was a typo! My brain is fried today from all the politics chat Blush

nevernotstruggling · 30/10/2019 14:30

I will be voting labour. The terror around JC is hilarious. What do you think he's going to do to you?

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 14:32

Joans3rd I have to point out that as a single mum, the last Labour government is massively benefiting my life. Without tax credits I'd have had to leave my house when xh left, uprooting the dc from their home and school, because I couldn't afford to stay here. It would have been awful. As it was I could keep more or less normality for them

Sharp contrast to when dm was a single mum in the '80s.

So I do think that Labour help single people too. The "hard working families" is a crass and unhelpful slogan (prob dreamed up by an out of touch pr company)

AllTheGoodUNsTaken · 30/10/2019 14:36

I would also like to point out that you're voting for your regional MP, not the party leader. The only way you can vote for Corbyn is if you happen to live in Islington, for example.

While that is true, a vote for labour/conservative etc endorses the party of which Corbyn/Johnson etc are leaders of. I can not in good conscience give my vote to endorse what the Conservative party are doing nationally to the poor and vulnerable, no matter how much I may like my local Tory MP.

The system is broken.

Cinammoncake · 30/10/2019 14:36

Skewed logic to me to say that LibDems previous leader lied by not keeping manifesto promises, even though they couldn't as in coalition, so instead I'll vote for a party who has actually lied, even lied to the Queen. And ran a vote leave campaign based on lies. And lied about proroguing parliament. And so on, so there is no scruples in that party whatsoever. Makes no sense. If the country votes Tory though well those voters can't complain when they suffer as a result, and people will do. Particularly the less well off sadly.

jay55 · 30/10/2019 14:36

No idea, I'm in a traditionally safe labour seat. My MP is standing down and I'm not too enamoured with the new candidate. I'll be interested to see who else is standing.

kikisparks · 30/10/2019 14:36

Oops- P!

VanGoghsDog · 30/10/2019 14:38

I would probably gain under a Tory govt - stil don't want one though, it's not about me, it's about what's good for the country!

Ijumpedtheshark · 30/10/2019 14:39

Tory.

mumsneedwine · 30/10/2019 14:43

Corbyn and gang terrify me because their economic policy is so naive. Tax companies more - they leave and go to a country with lower tax taking all their jobs with them. Tax rich people til they hurt (I'm a teacher so not in this group ) - they leave too. 40% of something is more than 80% of nothing. Plus the anti-Semitic, pro IRA\Hezbollah rhetoric of his past disgusts me. I don't like Johnson but I can not vote for a party that will bankrupt our country. Money trees and fairies are not real. And the 'Nick' revelations have put me off McDonald who I quite liked.
I voted remain but stand by the referendum as I believe in democracy. So can't vote Lib Dem.
It's not a nice choice but I will make my decision based on what I think is best for everyone. Unless David Milliband comes back and then choice is easy (as long as he leaves the money tree alone).

RipleysCat · 30/10/2019 14:48

I would usually vote Conservative, our MP is great and is supportive of GC women.
But I feel voting Tory this time is a vote to wave our NHS goodbye. And a brief glance at ‘Britannia Unchained’ written by the current incompetents in Government will let you know what they have in store for us. Fuck all maternity and a couple of weeks annual leave? People must be crazed to even consider them.
No idea who to vote for really. Whoever will do the least damage to the country.

Bobbelle · 30/10/2019 14:49

SNP

Flatwhite32 · 30/10/2019 14:51

God knows! I don't know how anyone with a conscience can vote Tory after all the cuts to education and public services in general. It's an absolute travesty.

VanGoghsDog · 30/10/2019 15:00

I can not vote for a party that will bankrupt our country

Tories have got us into more debt than any Labour government ever has.
