How are you voting in December?

Apologies if there’s already a thread on this - I did look and couldn’t find one.

So now it’s been confirmed that we’re having a GE in December, how are you voting? And what are your predictions on the results?

I’ve seen quite a few posts on here over the past couple months from people saying they wouldn’t vote now as they are politically homeless - wondering if these people still feel that way?

I’m voting labour - albeit in a very safe Tory area (so feel very much as though my vote doesn’t count). Reasons being I would never vote Tory and I don’t like a lot of what the Lim Dems have said recently. I also couldn’t bring myself not to vote at all.

Green and probably Labour.

Wishiwasrunning2 · 30/10/2019 12:21

I'll be voting conservative, my husband too. There isn't much to choose from but Corbyn is terrible no policies of his own, just runs everyone else down. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

DustyDiamond · 30/10/2019 12:23

SDP are against identity politics as well btw:

We reject the current obsession with grievance and identity which divides our society into hostile and opposing camps.

We believe the shared ‘identity politics’ of both the far right and far left to be inherently divisive and self-defeating. For many years the liberal-left has abandoned the politics of solidarity for those of individual emancipation, without realising that putting differences above common bonds can harm mutuality.

OneForMeToo · 30/10/2019 12:25

Tory there is not another party worth while voting for here.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 30/10/2019 12:29

Labour. I live in a safe, Labour area.

BarbourellaTheCoatzilla · 30/10/2019 12:30

I really honestly don't understand how anyone with a jot of compassion and humanity about them vote for the tories.

They have bent this country over and shafted us over and over again, homelessness, poverty, austerity. How are you able to vote in those responsible for actual DEATHS by shrugging it off like 'well we would benefit from a tax break' ... jesus fucking christ. I'm alright jack but FUCK the rest of you plebs yeah.

Conservatives will win because we've ben brainwashed and people can't read or learn anything past the shitstain that is our national media. And then BJs tory todger will be wedged firmly up our arse for the foreseeable while the country fucking crumbles.

LynseyLou1982 · 30/10/2019 12:31

I will be voting and I will be voting tactically to try and get theTories out. The tactical voting websites tell me to vote Labour for my constituency but I may go towards the Lib Dems as I'm not a fan of Corbyn either. I voted Remain but I know it'll happen now, not happy about it and I worry about my job security and the future of the NHS after Brexit but as long as No Deal is definitely off the table I can cope. I'm a from a Northern working class big city where we'd never ever vote Tory.

mrsm43s · 30/10/2019 12:33

Remainer and floating voter in a (usually) safe Tory area.

Will not vote Labour because Corbyn. Anti Semitism, ridiculous unworkable far left policies, and because he's also a leaver (albeit too cowardly to actually plainly stand up and say that).

Will not vote Tory because Brexit, BJ and party has moved too far to the right for my tastes.

Will vote LD or Green Party depending on which one is a better tactical vote against the Tories in our area. Probably Lib Dem.

Wattagoose90 · 30/10/2019 12:34

I haven't read through the entire threat yet so apologies if I'm echoing anyone else's thoughts...

Situations like this prove how outdated and ill-fitting the first-past-the-post system are.

So many people are saying that they're having to use their vote tactically in order to ensure Tories or Labour don't win their local seat. I'm in the same situation. For the first time ever I've found myself researching the Lib Dems as voting for a smaller party will be a wasted vote. I absolutely don't want a Tory government, but I'm no longer convinced by my Labour MP.

I absolutely think we'll be looking at a hung parliament and we'll be back to square one. Cameron has a lot to answer for.

Cheguevarahamster · 30/10/2019 12:39

Labour

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 30/10/2019 12:41

I'll vote whichever way would be most likely to keep the Tory candidate out, short of something even more right wing like UKIP etc. I feel politically homeless so no party particularly fits my views - or it's fair to say they all have at least one major policy or stance which would be a dealbreaker - but I see the damage every day done by the Tories in the disadvantaged area where I live, and particularly to the disabled so I'll hold my nose and vote tactically.

Sadly I think we will get a Tory majority regardless. A hung Parliament is about the most I'll allow myself to hope for.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/10/2019 12:42

Another one here who's struggling, especially as I've voted Labour before and hope to again one day

I'll probably have to hold my nose and vote Conservative though - literally almost anything's better than Corbyn / McDonnell / Abbott et al

EileenAlanna · 30/10/2019 12:43

I won't be voting for any candidate/Party that doesn't have a clear grasp of what a woman is & isn't afraid to say that men aren't women. I'm expecting to have to spoil my ballot. Again.

Clangus00 · 30/10/2019 12:44

SNP as per usually.

StripeyDeckchair · 30/10/2019 12:48

Fuck knows.
They're all lying, selfish, self-serving and over privileged who don't care about thr country or people like us who live here & finance their lifestyle.
Neither Johnson or Corbyn are fit to be PM.
I think we'll end up with a hung parliament which will lead to even more years of nothing happening & the UK stagnating.
Its a disaster but I don't know what the solution is.

ArabellaDoreenFig · 30/10/2019 12:51

Something interesting here, mumsnet is typically left leaning, and usually any election threads tend to be a labour majority but we are seeing a real mix (same as the GE discussion on the feminism board)

Is this because more people are turning away from Labour ? Or are people more comfortable with ‘outing’ themselves as Tories?

(Disclaimer - I’m voting Tory btw. Mainly because they have MPs who are gender critical and are allowed to say so. Labours treatment of women this past year has appalled me, for example women being treated like bigots because they want to discuss women’s sex based rights)

Cinammoncake · 30/10/2019 12:52

LibDem

Poolbridge · 30/10/2019 12:53

LD.
Would never vote Tory and Johnson is toxic. Can’t support Corbyn either.

zen1 · 30/10/2019 13:09

I could never vote Tory and wouldn’t trust Boris as far as I could throw him (I remember him failing to deliver many of his promises as Mayor of London.) The Tory party have thrown poor and disabled people under the bus.
However, while I like some of Labour’s policies and support remaining in the EU, I don’t feel able to vote for any of the left wing parties due to their inability to accurately define what a woman is. Therefore, I will be spoiling my ballot unless there is a local independent I feel I can support.
Either way, I predict a Tory win and a bad Brexit deal.

VanGoghsDog · 30/10/2019 13:32

Well Boris has a deal to Leave which he has been desperately trying to get through. If he wins with a majority the Conservative MP’s will feel confident they have a People’s mandate supporting Leave.
And Corbyns policy is to get a deal himself and then have a public vote on it. Which means you can vote to Remain.

  1. Johnson (not sure why he gets the privilege of fist name and others do not) cannot guarantee his party would all vote through any 'deal, they have not done so far, even when they had a majority.
  2. Sadly don't trust Corbyn to deliver and, anyway, I don't agree with a second ref (except in some very specific circs which are not likely to happen)

My point was in reply to someone who said you have to vote for Leave or Remain - in which case the ONLY parties standing on those tickets are, respectively, Brexit Party and LibDem (maybe Green, not sure).

Cinammoncake · 30/10/2019 13:37

I'd say Boris Johnson has done all he can to make no deal happen. It's only through the hard work of MPs that we were saved from an almighty mess tomorrow. Unless you are a multi millionaire I can't see why you'd vote Tory and make yourself and the country much worse off tbh.

MaMaMaMySharona · 30/10/2019 13:46

There's a real mixed bag on here! Probably reasonably representative of the country as a whole (although I'm aware MN is generally quite pro-Brexit).

I am being conscious of not basing my vote on Brexit - there are a lot of other things currently happening in the country that I'm concerned about, e.g. protecting NHS, protecting/improving worker's rights, funding police, funding schools etc.

MarshaBradyo · 30/10/2019 13:48

Can’t bring myself to vote for Corbyn or BJ

Feels like a big deal though this election. I hope turnout is good.

ThatUserNamesTakenTryAnother · 30/10/2019 13:51

Labour, those who want to keep tories in need a reality check
