How are you voting in December?

Apologies if there’s already a thread on this - I did look and couldn’t find one.

So now it’s been confirmed that we’re having a GE in December, how are you voting? And what are your predictions on the results?

I’ve seen quite a few posts on here over the past couple months from people saying they wouldn’t vote now as they are politically homeless - wondering if these people still feel that way?

I’m voting labour - albeit in a very safe Tory area (so feel very much as though my vote doesn’t count). Reasons being I would never vote Tory and I don’t like a lot of what the Lim Dems have said recently. I also couldn’t bring myself not to vote at all.

OP posts:

SNP

Iggly · 30/10/2019 10:06

That’ll you’ll accept or acknowledge anyway

You see, I find that statement rude.

Maybe I made the mistake of reading too much but I knew the relationship with the EU was more than just a trade relationship. Undoing that is a complicated affair.

Look at the NI issue which people didn’t properly foresee. What else could there be that we don’t know about because it hasn’t made headlines?

dellacucina · 30/10/2019 10:07

Unfortunately I can't vote (yet) but I truly despise the Tories and would vote for anyone but them.

LaurieMarlow · 30/10/2019 10:08

JC can't even run his own party properly

And Boris can? Are you for fucking real? Confused

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/10/2019 10:08

If I'm honest I'm surprised anyone could vote Tory after their behaviour over the past few years - especially with Johnson as leader.

That's how I feel about Labour and Corbyn. I rather vote Monster Raving Loony than Labour with Corbyn, Abbot, McDonnell etc

Petrichor11 · 30/10/2019 10:08

Labour

LucheroTena · 30/10/2019 10:10

I’m gobsmacked that there are people still willing to vote conservative after the last decade of chaos. And all the billions Brexshit will lose and have lost the economy.

Wineislifex · 30/10/2019 10:11

@PinkSparklyPussyCat amen

Iggly · 30/10/2019 10:11

What has Diane -Abbott done wrong except for make mistakes? People make mistakes 🤷🏻‍♀️

Boris on the other hand can make racist comments and that’s ok Hmm

BowiesJumper · 30/10/2019 10:11

I'm shocked that so many people have said Tory, but I guess that's representative of the country, as they'll unfortunately win (with or without a majority).

I'm voting LD, as I have for many years, our constituency goes between Tory and LD, so it's the sensible option here.

Hingeandbracket · 30/10/2019 10:11

We need proportional representation because people would see a real translation of their vote into someone representing their views.
^ This, 100%. I will be spoiling my ballot by writing PR now on it

DrBlackbird · 30/10/2019 10:12

I’ve voted labour all my life but I will never ever vote for them when Corbyn is in charge. So I shall vote Tory with a heavy heart but I couldn’t live with myself if I had any influence in labour getting in

JustAnswer... if it is the appalling treatment of Jewish Labour MPs that has turned you against Corbyn (and hence Labour), this is understandable, but suggesting this is the reason you will now vote Tory seems a bit disingenuous given both the history of the Tory party and the track record of its current leader.

This an institutionally anti-Semitic party and has been from its inception. Moreover, BJ (despite his heritage) is on the record for supporting explicitly anti-Semitic writers as well as explicitly anti-Semitic far right political figures from when he was editor of The Spectator to his time as FS. Not to mention the rest of the anti-Semitic Tory MPs.

There are other parties to vote for...

Justanotherlurker · 30/10/2019 10:13

do you think that jeremy Corbyn and John Mcdonnel are marxists then?

What are you on about, Mcdonnel has said himself he is a Marxist.

And he named Lenin and Trotsky as his biggest infulances.

www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk/2016/03/exclusive-john-mcdonnell-named-lenin-and-trotsky-his-biggest-influences-2006

Talk about being duped by media...

Dapplegrey · 30/10/2019 10:14

‘That’ll you’ll accept or acknowledge anyway

You see, I find that statement rude. ‘

Iggly you describe a poster as rude but a couple of pages back you said
Then you’re an idiot. to another poster. You don’t think calling someone an idiot is rude?

VanGoghsDog · 30/10/2019 10:14

I am totally bewildered as to how to vote.

There is very little mention of the Brexit Party on this thread - they are proposing candidates in all constituencies. So, whose vote will they split? Presumably all the main parties will lose votes to them as the Brexit supporters will see them as the only option to "get Brexit done".

Then, they may well actually win you know, given the number of constituencies that overall voted to leave. What with the FPTP system as opposed to PR. And Farage would be PM.

I could never vote Tory for their social policies, austerity, getting us in this mess, their general unpleasant arrogance. Though my local Tory MP is OK and a dedicated Remainer. But he has stood down in order to vote against the whip and he has said he won't stand so he has not had the whip returned.

I'm in a Tory stronghold so whoever replaces him will win. In some ways I hope whoever replaces him is a Leaver as that will scupper the BP vote.

Labour - well, their anti semitism responses, the idiocy at conference this year, their views on trans......none of that works for me. And while I am a die hard Remainer, I actually don't support a second referendum except in some very specific circumstances.

I've nothing against Corbin's policies, in general, but I'm not sure he's the guy to bring the country together. He sounded bordering on hysterical on TV last night.
My parents are life long Labour activists and they know him. Even they would prefer him not to be leader.
I was a member for......thirty five years. But have up my membership this year as I just couldn't vote Labour in the European election and I don't think you should be a member of a party you can't vote for.

I appreciate the point that if Labour win he might be replaced in a few years anyway.

LibDem - urgh. Not got much on offer really.

Obvs not the BP for anyone me.

Green......well, same problems as LD really but at least they don't support austerity and have an environmental focus I guess....

If BP don't win, but Tory or Labour do, that won't resolve the Brexit problem because neither party has one policy on it. Both sides have remainers and leavers, both have some who voted for and against the WA.

Sadly the GE will be a Brexit referendum and whatever the outcome we'll also be stuck with the policies of that party.
If we have a hung parliament then all sorts of deals will be made.

The only policies I can really support are Labour's. But I am finding it hard to stomach them right now.

apples24 · 30/10/2019 10:18

SNP as they have the best chance of getting rid of the Tory who currently holds the seat in my constituency.

Really don't like the current MP, a total wet blanket who always just votes within the party line as he's just keen to keep whoever is leading the party happy.

Purely a tactical vote though as wouldn't vote for SNP in a Scottish election, I don't think that independence (ie more divisions and talk about deals and mess) is what Scotland needs now.

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 10:18

It's possibly the most least worst scenario election there's ever been.

Sorry, just wanted to amuse myself with a gramatically silly sentence.

Labour, as I expect/hope/think JC will topple over soon and a proper grown up will take charge

Iggly · 30/10/2019 10:19

Yes it was rude of me and for that I’m sorry. I was reacting to the absurdity of their statement.

Leflic · 30/10/2019 10:19

I think Boris is playing a dangerous game ( although I will admit is a clever one)

It’s nothing to do with game playing. Parliament has blocked everything; deals, revised deals, no deals. No progress has been made at all. It needs a majority parliament whether Leave or Remain. What happens if we don’t get one again is the question.

VanGoghsDog · 30/10/2019 10:21

It needs a majority parliament whether Leave or Remain.

So Brexit Party or LibDem then?

No other party is wholly leave or remain.

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/10/2019 10:22

I live in a very safe Tory leave voting constituency. Can’t stand my mp, can’t stand Boris or what the Tories have become. I would choose snp if I could. As is, I will vote either labour or Lib Dem, whichever I’m advised is best. I don’t like the policies of either.

Sobeyondthehills · 30/10/2019 10:28

I have no idea this time round, this is a bit outing if you are in the same place as me.

I live in a very safe Tory seat, the area voted to leave as well. But recently, we have had a massive turn with the local council, which was also Tory, something like 22 Tory and 1 Labour, in the local election, the Tory party kept their majority by 1. I think this was mainly due to Brexit, however since this happened, a lot of things have come to light about how the public purse is being spent and it has turned a lot of voters away from them.

While this shouldn't affect the GE, I think people will have it in the back of their minds and I wouldn't be surprised if they turned to the Brexit Party and split the vote and maybe allow Labour in, it would be a long shot but I think the only one.

For me personally, I couldn't vote for either the Brexit Party or Tory. I am not a fan of Labour or Lib Dems, leaving me with Green or maybe an independent, but to get rid of the Tory party here I may vote Labour

Leflic · 30/10/2019 10:28

It’s needs a majority parliament whether Leave or Remain.

So Brexit Party or LibDem then?

No other party is wholly leave or remain

Well Boris has a deal to Leave which he has been desperately trying to get through. If he wins with a majority the Conservative MP’s will feel confident they have a People’s mandate supporting Leave.
And Corbyns policy is to get a deal himself and then have a public vote on it. Which means you can vote to Remain.

Rumboogie · 30/10/2019 10:28

Forget Corbyn, others in the Labour Party are far more dangerous - John McDonnell in particular. A raging Marxist with policies reminiscent of the Bolsheviks.

Tribal voting and propagandist trash press eg. Mail/Guardian - echo chambers for the right/left are problems in this country.

Iggly · 30/10/2019 10:31

policies reminiscent of the Bolsheviks

Which ones?
