meaww.com/missing-teen-adult-video-pornhub-modelhub-snapchat-periscope

A missing 15 year old girl was spotted in videos hosted by Pornhub. Those of you who are “ok” with porn - are you “ok” with this?

The sentence the man involved in making the videos is for another thread, but is shocking.

If you want to take a really simple, easy action today to reduce the demand for sexual exploitation and human trafficking, you can stop viewing internet pornography. Job done. I'm not sure why so many posters are resorting to whataboutery.

JAPAB · 01/11/2019 01:44

It is not the act of someone watching a free sample of a clip over the internet that keeps a particular studio in business (in fact with the net being the net, it might be a clip from a studio that ceased trading years ago).

What would stop trafficking would be if the people who buy subs and videos from the studios where it happens, were to stop doing so.

Well it wouldn't actually stop it. The traffickers would just find a new activity to traffick people into.

Think I made a comment earlier about how perhaps it would be better to find and stop the traffickers, rather than trying to ban every potential activity that they may traffick people into.

motherheroic · 01/11/2019 05:49

Comparing working in Lidl to the porn industry. I have to laugh.

showmewhatyougot · 01/11/2019 06:08

Ergh I hate when people use one bad incident to try an force others to their way of thinking.

There are good and bad people in the world, simple right? The bad people will always find a way to ruin everything. There are bad teachers, doctors , police etc people that you should be able to trust, walking the streets taking advantage of people. Sadly It's not just porn where incidents like this happen.

A lot of women CHOOSE to be in this industry because they want too, they enjoy it. Sadly yes there are also women that do not get that choice, but isn't that the same with a lot of things?

Nofunkingworriesmate · 01/11/2019 06:15

You can watch gymnastics and be inadvertently watching a child being drugged and exploited
You can watch a film and unknowingly watch a woman / child who is an addict and being manipulated
You can get your rocks off shopping in sports direct etc and be served by someone who is miserable and abused

motherheroic · 01/11/2019 06:22

@showmewhatyougot A lot of things don't involve having sex on camera though do they.

Great for the lucky few women who love it and those who have their big money contracts and get to pick and choose and have their 'no list'. But for those who didn't and there are A LOT of them (the average span for female porn performers is incredibly short with a huge turnover). It lives on forever. It's not something you can walk away from.

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 01/11/2019 06:42

Ok put the actor exploitation, coercion, rape and child abuse aside for one minute. However small or large the percentage of porn including these is. Even if it’s 1% (which it isn’t, it may well be 90%) it still has repercussions for the industry as a whole.

as a woman who doesn’t watch porn still have to tolerate the deep societal impacts of normalising violence and aggression and use of women as pieces of meat. This impact I have to tolerate in my life even though I am not a consumer. This is what fucks me off!
Mind geek the owners or Pornhub and many other websites have 115million daily visitors. Their power is unchecked and virulently escalating violence and aggression toward women.
Have you seen the number of female MPs who resigned because of abuse and death threats!!!??? Only 1 male MP resigned and he was gay. One of the reasons for this is because we normalise abuse to women through pornography.

People do what you want with your lives, but I want to know who is making money and expecting women, including me to mop up the suffering arising in society from it.

motherheroic · 01/11/2019 06:52

@SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge You've summed it up perfectly. The ripple effect of porn can not be ignored.

Lessthanzero · 01/11/2019 07:19

Just because people are treated badly in the production of some goods, it doesn't make it OK to watch videos of women - who may well have been hurt, abused trafficked or coerced - be abused further on camera. If you watch porn you are either in serious denial about the potential life the person in it has or is facing - or you simply don't care.

Fwiw I don't go to nail bars, have my car washed buy apple products, drink coffee or eat avacados. I'm sure alot of my families clothes were made by people under shitty conditions and I'm sure not everyone involved in the production of my food has the best of life. But I need clothes and food. And I'm not asking for those people to be hurt so I can cum over it.

Also to the person that said link the porn where someone was raped- try the article this whole thread is about ffs.

SmileEachDay · 01/11/2019 08:47

Sadly yes there are also women that do not get that choice, but isn't that the same with a lot of things?

And how many women being raped/exploited is ok by you? At what point does it stop being arousing?

OP posts:
StreetwiseHercules · 01/11/2019 08:59

“ And I'm not asking for those people to be hurt so I can cum over it. ”

Why is the desire to “cum” considered so paltry and unimportant though? That pleasure is in some way unworthy or bad?

It’s a normal part of human nature, and we seek to nourish other parts of human nature responsibly. Some people are just squeamish about sexual matters and they believe that their hang ups and sensibilities should be forced into others.

So is porn bad? Like with most things, the answer is.......drumroll.... it depends!

SmileEachDay · 01/11/2019 09:05

Some people are just squeamish about sexual matters and they believe that their hang ups and sensibilities should be forced into others

Again. It’s very important to you to believe that people who are anti porn are in some way “hung up” about sex.

Why is that?

OP posts:
StreetwiseHercules · 01/11/2019 09:06

“ Again. It’s very important to you to believe that people who are anti porn are in some way “hung up” about sex.

Why is that?”

It’s just what I genuinely believe based on what I hear, what I see and what my instincts tell me.

It seems to bother you greatly that this view can be sincerely held.

SmileEachDay · 01/11/2019 09:12

It’s just what I genuinely believe based on what I hear, what I see and what my instincts tell me

So, from what you have heard from me on this thread, how are you in a position to say anything about my attitude towards sex?

OP posts:
StreetwiseHercules · 01/11/2019 09:19

“ So, from what you have heard from me on this thread, how are you in a position to say anything about my attitude towards sex?”

I take a view based on what I consider to be the weakness of your arguments, the failure to engage with reasonable points out to you and, instinct.

Lessthanzero · 01/11/2019 09:21

Why is the desire to “cum” considered so paltry and unimportant though? That pleasure is in some way unworthy or bad?

That sounds so rapey

So sexual pleasure is so important that the health and happiness of the people involved in you getting it are not important.

You don't need to watch porn to get sexual pleasure. We coped without video porn for 1000s of years. If anything it is detrimental to a healthy sex life. Just because someone doesn't watch porn it does not mean they are a prude, puritan or don't enjoy sex.

SmileEachDay · 01/11/2019 09:25

I take a view based on what I consider to be the weakness of your arguments, the failure to engage with reasonable points out to you

My argument has remained the same throughout. There are women in the porn industry being exploited/abused/raped. I don’t think that’s ok. I don’t think it’s ok for people to watch this happening, in fact, I think it shows a complete disregard for human suffering. There are other effects of porn that are also hugely concerning, but not as relevant to this particular discussion, which started from an article about a child appearing on a mainstream porn platform.

and, instinct
What does that even mean?

OP posts:
BertrandRussell · 01/11/2019 09:32

“Why is the desire to “cum” considered so paltry and unimportant though? That pleasure is in some way unworthy or bad?”
Are you only able to cum with the help of porn videos?

motherheroic · 01/11/2019 09:38

It's all well and good sourcing out ethical companies/studios but if you don't pay for the porn you're not being ethical. You are stealing. And that tiny company will soon be pushed out only to be replaced by more hardcore companies.

motherheroic · 01/11/2019 09:41

According to this thread porn is the only way some of you can cum. Whatever happened to using a little imagination.

Being anti porn doesn't equal hung up on sex. Surprisingly sex can be had AND enjoyed without porn. Shocking I know.

StreetwiseHercules · 01/11/2019 09:45

“ Just because someone doesn't watch porn it does not mean they are a prude, puritan or don't enjoy sex.”

And just because millions of men and women all over the world enjoy different aspects of sexuality, it doesn’t mean that they are rapey or ambivalent to crime and degradation.

Surely, surely, there is space for “it depends” on this complex issue.

BertrandRussell · 01/11/2019 09:46
Grin Using porn is not a sexuality!
SlightlyWizened · 01/11/2019 09:50

Similar to SGB's assertion that if you oppose porn then it's because of some religious reason or sexual hang up or refusal to accept that women enjoy sex.
Which no one on this thread has actually used as an argument.

SmileEachDay · 01/11/2019 10:02

And just because millions of men and women all over the world enjoy different aspects of sexuality, it doesn’t mean that they are rapey or ambivalent to crime and degradation

If you orgasm watching a woman who might be being raped? If you orgasm watching a woman who might not have consented to be there? If you orgasm watching a woman who might be sustaining physical injury? If you orgasm watching a woman who might actually be a child? Then you might want to apply some critical thinking to your attitudes to sex, exploitation and degradation.
