If you haven't already?

Also, encourage your older teenagers to register for the first time.

Boris has proposed election for December!

Hingeandbracket
@SilverySurfer Not forgetting that food banks were introduced under a Labour government.
That is just plain factually incorrect. Where do you get these lies? Some bloke in a pub?

I couldn't remember where I learned that piece of information but alas no bloke or pub were involved so I googled and this website: www.ibtimes.co.uk/short-history-food-banks-modern-phenomenon-1445071 suggests 2004 so during war criminal Blair's government. An excerpt if you don't wish to click on the link says:

'The UK and wealthier nations did not set up food banks until later. Since 2004, they have been established in the UK, Germany and Hungary.'

Alsohuman · 26/10/2019 19:01

Forgot the bit about use trebling since 2010 and being unheard of in 2008 then @Silverysurfer?

Limensoda · 26/10/2019 19:12

I don’t think any of you realise what a shit show a labour majority would be. I’ve registered to vote and would vote for BJ (even though I really dislike him) to be able to stay in the country but I am making contingencies

I know what a shit show the Tories are.
I think the majority of people would fare better under a Labour government rather than the bloody Tories.
Why do Tory supporters ignore all the crap this government has inflicted on this country, ... especially on the poor?

ginghambox · 26/10/2019 19:21

I know what a shit show the Tories are
So try and convince people why Magic grandad and co.would do better. Instead of slagging people off.

Alsohuman · 26/10/2019 19:31

Who’s Magic grandad? Nobody’s been slagged off.

PineappleLumps · 26/10/2019 20:06

I’m already registered don’t worry my conservative vote will be legal Wink

Figmentofmyimagination · 26/10/2019 20:41

The quite novel thing about this election is that the Conservative party can no longer claim with a straight face to be the ‘party of business’. Not sure what they are the ‘party of’ anymore. I guess they are the ‘party of brexit’.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 26/10/2019 21:07

If mumsnet is a reliable barometer then the Lib Dems are going to win the next election by a landslide!

Grin

Along with Boris will never be PM, the Tory party is so split its the end of the Conservatives, Boris will resign and there will be another referendum as the public will demand this repeatedly states as fact since 24/6/16

It’s all wishful thinking and I’m amazed how many will witter in about lack of critical thinking and then come out with such rubbish in the next sentence

ilovetofu · 26/10/2019 21:21

God yes do vote!

Xenia · 27/10/2019 06:36

I don;'t think a MN barometer would be accurate. The polls do not show the lib dems would win and nor will Labour. I obvioulsy hope for a conservative win when we have an election - not sure when that will be. I did not agree with the fixed term parliaments act as it took away flexibility which had worked quite well so it is not even clear unless BJ can persuade his MPs to make a vote of no confidence in his if we can have an election on 21 Dec.

Limensoda · 27/10/2019 08:05

So try and convince people why Magic grandad and co.would do better. Instead of slagging people off

I presume you mean Corbyn? Not sure because you were obviously flagging someone off?
Labour could not be worse. In fact they would be a lot better. We need public services that are run for serving people, not corporate bosses. We need homes to rent that are affordable for people on low wages, not private landlords building up property portfolios. We need care for the elderly and disabled. You won't get any of that under a Tory government.
It's ok for people on good salaries isn't it? Just don't care about those in poverty, tell them it's their own fault they haven't got what you have?

Limensoda · 27/10/2019 08:06

Slagging....not flagging. Grin

Dandelion1993 · 27/10/2019 08:34

If you don't vote then you have no right to complain on the outcomes.

Voting is such an important thing and can make such a difference

BoneyBackJefferson · 27/10/2019 10:03

Dandelion1993 and anyone else that thinks that way.

I spoil my ballot where does that put me on your binary list?

I have in spoiling my ballot made my point on the system clear.

I am not apathetic, or unpolitical but I will not ratify anyone that stands for the system in its current form.

tumbleisatwat · 27/10/2019 10:17

@BoneyBackJefferson

Genuine question.

You spoil your ballot and make your point. What does that genuinely achieve? Do you think anyone is listening? That it will change anything?

I respect your right to do that even though I do think it's a wasted vote. I can't say I truly understand the utility of it.

OP posts:
BoneyBackJefferson · 27/10/2019 10:27

*@Figmentofmyimagination

What other choice is there?
I refuse to ratify policies that I don't support and even though NOTA won our case for a negative vote to be put on the ballot, the main parties refuse to put it there.

As I posted I am not politically apathetic, I campaign and contact MPs.

And as far as I can see it is no more a wasted vote than voting for any of the other smaller parties or the non main party in a stronghold.

BoneyBackJefferson · 27/10/2019 10:29

sorry that wasn't supp supposed to be at figmentofmyimagination but @tumbleisatwat

tumbleisatwat · 27/10/2019 10:52

Fair enough!

I'll always vote though. Even if it's for a party I don't completely agree with.

My choice is based on who will care for and protect the most vulnerable. Sounds a bit holier than thou/virtue signally but that's the truth.

OP posts:
Alsohuman · 27/10/2019 15:27

we can have an election on 21 Dec.

Four days before Christmas? Even Johnson wouldn’t be that stupid.

daisychain01 · 27/10/2019 18:09

But which political party can we trust to "care for and protect the most vulnerable" - Its a fallacy to believe it's Labour. They spend money they don't have, like an irresponsible teenager who goes on a spending spree with Mum or Dad's credit card.

Tory has made some inhumane decisions in the name of austerity but they are still widely held as the party who is best placed to manage the U.K. economy. Let's face it, if UK has a strong economy then everyone gains, if we're laden with debt, that's not going to help care for the vulnerable.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 27/10/2019 18:23

Looking at policies for myself the Green Party is who I should be voting for

But there don’t stand a chance of winning (I don’t live in Brighton)

I will not vote Labour supporting Corbyn and co ruining the party, LibDems are pointless at the moment another wasted vote and do not agree with many Tory policies

I voted LD last election I’m not impressed by their many of their MP’s when i hear them and feel they have now too moved to that very decisive politics which I feel does nothing for the issues this country is facing

I’m at a total loss and have never felt that way before about voting

Limensoda · 27/10/2019 19:39

This govt. have now borrowed more than every previous Labour government.
They've wasted lots of money on contracts to companies like Carillion....who were going bust ffs! They've wasted money on bad decisions regarding HS2, which could end up being abandoned.

If you really believe everyone benefits from a strong economy you are deluded. Creating a 'strong economy' always means taking from the poorest and rewarding the richest. It's a bloody myth that we all benefit and people like you fall for it.

TheGoogleMum · 27/10/2019 20:22

I don't like any of them but I will still vote! Lib dems probably. I'm in a Labour area and they are preferable to me than conservatives. Always vote if there's someone you definately don't want to win because th bet their supporters will be voting! If we aren't careful we'll have the brexit party in charge.

Xenia · 27/10/2019 20:32

Those wanting to protect the vulnerable as their priority will find the Tories are the best party for that as they ensure the nation has the funds to maintain the welfare state.

tumbleisatwat · 27/10/2019 21:09

I fail to see the point of having a ' strong economy' (and I'm not sure we really do) when we have rising infant mortality? Falling standards in health care? Falling educational standards?

What's the point?
