...to buy radar key online to use disabled loo?

Marigo · 21/10/2019 14:31

I’m not disabled and neither are any of my children, however I’m often out with my 3 under 2.5 and in our local shopping centre loos there’s no toilet in the baby change. The ladies is impossible with double buggy plus buddy board and the disabled requires a radar key. Same for the loos in the two big department stores so I just can’t go out into town unless it’s the weekend and my husband can come in case I need a wee! I’m struggling to leave the house for this stress but my mom is disabled and I know how shit it is when she can’t use the large cubicle she needs. I’m really conflicted about what to do.

I’m guessing everybody on this thread is perfect! It’s a toilet

Hell no. But there is a difference between being perfect and generally being an arse when it comes to facilities that exist for disabled people.

It’s a toilet

Have a think about why it's there Hmm

ChangeAndThenChange · 24/10/2019 10:34

@cactusthief what would you suggest? Leave her kids alone? Wet herself?

cactusthief · 24/10/2019 10:37

I was discussing the rights of the disabled person, something for which campaigns still have to exist. How a parent manages to pee when she goes out isn't really something that needs external advice. Unlike disability rights.

JacquesHammer · 24/10/2019 10:37

Leave her kids alone?

Outside end cubicle with door open/closed.

I mean there doesn't seem to be a raft of children being snatched whilst their mothers have a wee so I'm guessing you'd probably be ok for the sake of a quick wee...

Sirzy · 24/10/2019 10:38

Plan trips.

campaign for specific facilities.

Don’t abuse the only facilities that make it vaguely possible for someone with a disability to leave the house.

ChangeAndThenChange · 24/10/2019 10:39

Peeing with the door open or having a crap when the doors open - very classy people

If it is the end cubicle and your pushchair is in front, who is going to see you. Shut the door if you'd prefer.

Far more classy than abusing the disabled facility, no?

ChangeAndThenChange · 24/10/2019 10:42

The door won’t shut with a pushchair in there - what’s wrong with you! Think about what your saying. Actually No, how embarrassing

Sirzy · 24/10/2019 10:42

When there are adults having to be laid on the floor of disabled toilets to be changed I can’t get too worried about a mother wedging a pram in the end cubicle to be honest.

And every person who abuses the disabled facilities adds to the amount of crap that person has to lie in.

smegsmeg · 24/10/2019 10:48

If they have nappy changing facilities in the disabled toilet I don't see a problem with taking children in to use this facility?

Personally I don't think YABU. The amount of times I've had to wait around for the baby changing (disabled toilet) in ques to request the key with a screaming soiled baby is ridiculous.

If they didn't want baby's to be changed in the disabled toilet why put the baby changing in there?

Blackbear19 · 24/10/2019 10:53

Wouldn't it be wonderful if every town center was full of big dept stores with wonderful facilities.
However reality is many town centres are dying, lack of people, BHS has gone, still lying empty, another two local dept stores are empty.

Not every town has loads of facilities to suit mum's.

AmIThough · 24/10/2019 10:57

I don't think YABU actually. We're really lucky with my local shopping centre and they have 'family rooms' alongside all toilets where there's baby changing and toilet facilities in one big room.

JacquesHammer · 24/10/2019 10:59

Now go back and read again...

Just in case you need smaller words, you leave the cubicle outside the door, and push the door closed a little. Or, if there isn't another cubicle opposite, then leave the door open. Who would see? Or leave your pushchair outside the cubicle door and shut the door whilst you go to the loo. I'm not getting with this appears to be akin to rocket science.

ChangeAndThenChange · 24/10/2019 11:02

@jacqueshammer I don’t know who you think you are to tell somebody else what they feel comfortable with. Maybe you don’t mind going about your business with the door open not everybody does. Simple as that.

Sirzy · 24/10/2019 11:03

Not being comfortable doesn’t mean you can abuse disabled facilities.

ChangeAndThenChange · 24/10/2019 11:04

Jesus anyone would think I’m claiming as a single mum when I have a partner.

Blackbear19 · 24/10/2019 11:07

It's hardly abusing a disabled facility when the alternatives seem to be don't go out, abandon your children or wee with the door open (wtf)!

MustardScreams · 24/10/2019 11:11

Well op did choose to have her babies very close together meaning she needs all this equipment to leave the house.

No one, not one single person chooses to have a disability. That affects every single aspect of their life. And one of those aspects is being able to use an appropriate toilet as and when they need to.

JacquesHammer · 24/10/2019 11:11

Maybe you don’t mind going about your business with the door open not everybody does. Simple as that

If only toilet cubicles came with a door, eh.

Someone should suggest this - they'd make millions.

ChangeAndThenChange · 24/10/2019 11:14

Well if I can’t close the door with a pushchair in there I’m guessing it’d be......OPEN

Blackbear19 · 24/10/2019 11:16

Mustard I don't think you choose to have twins.

Does that mean somebody disabled because of a sports injury is less deserving of the disabled loo, than somebody with OCD. They choose to take the riskHmm

JacquesHammer · 24/10/2019 11:18

Well if I can’t close the door with a pushchair in there I’m guessing it’d be......OPEN

Can you at least read the posts. It makes debating ever so much easier.

Just for your own ease, I'll copy and paste the relevant line: -

Or leave your pushchair outside the cubicle door and shut the door whilst you go to the loo

ChangeAndThenChange · 24/10/2019 11:19

@jacshammer would you be suggesting I use the toilet shut the spot & leave my 6 month old unattended?

ChangeAndThenChange · 24/10/2019 11:19

Shut the door*
