AIBU to worry that the (almost certain) delay in Brexit will give rise to civil unrest?

OP posts:
Faffette · 20/10/2019 16:17

mummmy2017, again, what it it the EU has evolved into that you don't like?

Roussette · 20/10/2019 16:17
Shock Thrilled? When you had no idea of the implications, absolutely NO idea?

You say it will be worth it to be out? Please please tell me how, what are the benefits. What will it bring to your life? What about where you live, what benefits will coming out do for the area you reside?

Just say one benefit to you and your family and the people around you

BonnesVacances · 20/10/2019 16:18

I might be doing the leavers a disservice, but I doubt they'll be organised enough to wage the decades of terrorism that the IRA will. I know who I'd rather keep the peace with.

Faffette · 20/10/2019 16:19

mummmy2017, anything is worth it? Anything at all?

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 16:19

That we will be out.
That remains will have to accept it has be done .
That the UK can move forward from this deadlock.

Sunnyuplands · 20/10/2019 16:20

Is there any greater value than political freedom?
That will be worth it to get out.

Faffette · 20/10/2019 16:22

So you voted to be out so we could be out? That's it?

And to piss off the remainers.

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 16:22

Parliament have muddied the waters so much that Joe Public just sees that what they have asked for has not happened.
That MPs have basically told us we are too stupid to have our vote taken as a request.
This means Boris is now the People's PM.
Any election will see him roll into power on the spin vote.

Roussette · 20/10/2019 16:23

OK mummy I'll start with a disadvantage local to me.

There is a project near me that the EU contributes to (to the tune of over £1Million). It is for young people leaving care, those with disabilities or who are disadvantaged and it helps them get into training, work or college. It will fold if/when we come out the EU.

That's my disadvantage local to me. What can you offer?

Sunnyuplands · 20/10/2019 16:23

Faffette I certainly don't feel the political cost of the eu has been worth it... For the eu and UK... I don't feel the social costs have been worth it.
And I don't feel the economic costs have and thank goodness we are not in the euro... There are three good subjects to Google if anyone needs to know answers. Although, quite honestly, posters should know all the negatives because I fully belive in doing research before big descions.

Faffette · 20/10/2019 16:24

Sunnyuplands,
What do you mean "political freedom?"

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 16:24

Faffette

So you voted to be out so we could be out? That's it?

And to piss off the remainers.

This had nothing to do with pissing off remainers.
Got asked stay or go.
I wanted to go.

Sunnyuplands · 20/10/2019 16:25

Rossett so many local projects folded when Blair lifted workers rights. So many people at the bottom of the heap saw devices, charities fold under the sheer volume of needy people from ee who came over..

Does that make it right that your local service should fold?.. No, but unlike back in 2006 at least yours knows it will loose funding and take steps to address that... These other charities and services had no warning at all.

Roussette · 20/10/2019 16:26

That remains will have to accept it has be done

Pathetic

Is there any greater value than political freedom?

I've had political freedom all my life.

Sunnyuplands · 20/10/2019 16:26

What do you think I mean?.

What does it mean to you?

MustardScreams · 20/10/2019 16:27

@Sunnyuplands such a hilarious way of answering a question you don’t actually know the answer to! Leaver through and through Grin

Sunnyuplands · 20/10/2019 16:28

Good for you roussette.
It's often something people don't know that they have... People in early North Korea also felt they have it.

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 16:29

Over 17 Million people said to leave.
Do you not think that the fact so many voted means there is something very wrong in the UK EU relationship, for this be the view held?

Roussette · 20/10/2019 16:30

So many people at the bottom of the heap saw devices, charities fold under the sheer volume of needy people from ee who came over

Ahhh now we're getting to the bottom of it...

Sunny there are many many projects funded by the EU such as the one I talked about all over the UK. They all can't just 'take steps'. They will disappear and the creaking mental health services, NHS and other services will creak under the pressure an we will all suffer for that

MustardScreams · 20/10/2019 16:30

What!!! Are you on crack @Sunnyuplands?! Are you seriously comparing the UK to North Korea and their political freedoms?

saltandvinegararethebest · 20/10/2019 16:30

@Rousette Do you disagree with what she said?

'Rossett so many local projects folded when Blair lifted workers rights. So many people at the bottom of the heap saw devices, charities fold under the sheer volume of needy people from ee who came over..

Does that make it right that your local service should fold?.. No, but unlike back in 2006 at least yours knows it will loose funding and take steps to address that... These other charities and services had no warning at all.'

Faffette · 20/10/2019 16:33

Sunnyuplands

What costs are those.

I certainly enjoyed have proper maternity leave and paid holidays. I also appreciate the fact that the UK is held accountable.

We are not using the Euro. Do you know how that came about?

Do you have a Law degree? Have you studied econmics? European Law? I appreciate you have done some reading but if you are telling me you understand all the issues, that's impressive.

MustardScreams · 20/10/2019 16:34

@mummmy2017 I think that the Tories austerity (and some of Blair’s policies - I’m not afraid to admit that labour haven’t always been perfect) have created such a fucking despairing feeling amongst people that they wanted change desperately.

And then Brexit was sold as the way forward, it was the land of hope and glory and leaving the EU was going to solve all of our problems.

But actually it’s nothing like that. But people still believe that, and I don’t blame them! So it’s awfully hard to convince someone their dream isn’t actually a reality after all.

Longlongsummer · 20/10/2019 16:34

Brexit won't solve any of the problems that caused people to vote for it.

And we're wasting time and money trying to push through something - when the politicians in charge really want to:
not clamp down on tax avoidance
privatise the NHS

make money

And really have no idea how to do anything.
A sensible Brexit plan would have been to work out how to do it and then send in the letter to trigger Article 50.

And most leavers are too busy trying to keep their heads above water.*

Totally agree with all of this.

Limitedsimba123 · 20/10/2019 16:35

It makes me laugh when leavers talk about political freedom in one breath and then moan about ‘those democracy blocking MPs’ in the next breath. Last night they were championing a French veto to the extension request ... I thought they were all for the EU not interfering in our sovereign parliament Confused
