Brexit postponed

AIBU to worry that the (almost certain) delay in Brexit will give rise to civil unrest?

OP posts:
Pumperthepumper · 20/10/2019 14:35

Struth. There's not even room for a conversation on here. Jab jab jab. Never mind....

But you’re the one who keeps eye rolling and not answering questions - if you want to have a conversation then answer the replies to your post! Why the eye rolls? What’s wrong in this post:

People want a second referendum because the result of the last one was illegal, advisory, based on lies and impossible to deliver in all its competing forms

And why do you think the deal keeps getting knocked back?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/10/2019 14:50

Let alone the impact on the environment by having our main trading deals thousands of miles away as opposed to with our neighbours in Europe

I don’t think that’s so much of an issue. The EU is still going to be our main trading partner.

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 14:59

No one has ever done an EU exit like this before.
That is why we have no answers to give you.
We have no idea who will the govenment , or how it will be made up after an Election.
There are so many different things that we can't know yet, so I can't give you an answer for after we exit.

fuzzyduck1 · 20/10/2019 15:08

At least the uk won’t be using water canons on any rioters.as unlike Europe they are not aloud to be used in the uk

theunknownknown · 20/10/2019 15:09

^^ except that is not the plan. If we maintain EU standards, we won't be able to trade with the US - we won't be competitive enough for big business.
And that is the ultimate goal. To flog our NHS, to reduce our working and consumer rights and to reduce our environmental standards and commitments.
It is all there in black and white and summarised very succinctly by Keir Starmer yesterday.
The aim is to change our economic model to mirror that of America. Reduced working rights, barely any holidays etc. Only in 2016 Leadsome was calling for the abolishment of maternity leave and nmw.
Those in any doubt about the shift in our economy should read this sobering tale

Faffette · 20/10/2019 15:15

Mummy,

"There are so many different things that we can't know yet, so I can't give you an answer for after we exit."

So why do you want to leave when you don't know what it means? What did you vote for?

And what about HOW we leave. Any ideas on what kind of deal we should have?

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 20/10/2019 15:17

At least the uk won’t be using water canons on any rioters.as unlike Europe they are not aloud to be used in the uk

Should have used them in 2011... Would prevent hell of a lot of damage.

Limitedsimba123 · 20/10/2019 15:31

Theunknownknown I couldn’t agree more with your posts. I would have reluctantly accepted May’s WA but the changes to the level playing field in Johnson’s WA are horrific. I think most leave voters haven’t even grasped what the differences between the WA’s are and what these changes mean. That’s why we need delay, full Parliamentary scrutiny and a 2nd ref - Boris WA or revoke. Over in the Brexit topic the leavers seem to think once Brexit is sorted we can vote to get even better labour/enviro/ tax legislation because JRM, BJ, MF et al have our best interests at heart and they only want Brexit so they can be more accountable as MP’s Confused

BertrandRussell · 20/10/2019 15:41

There are so many different things that we can't know yet, so I can't give you an answer for after we exit.”

So how do you know it will be what you want?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 20/10/2019 15:44

Easiest trade deal in history/they need us more than we need them/we hold all the cards

Has the penny dropped yet?

Pumperthepumper · 20/10/2019 15:45

There are so many different things that we can't know yet, so I can't give you an answer for after we exit

Then how will you know it was worth it? You must know some positives or benefits otherwise why would you vote for it? What does your ideal Brexit look like and how will you recognise it?

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 15:52

Why are we leaving?
Because there was a vote.
We got asked do you want to go.
I wanted to go, so I said yes.
This has never been about what might happen, what could happen, or what will happen.

Pumperthepumper · 20/10/2019 15:54

I wanted to go, so I said yes.
This has never been about what might happen, what could happen, or what will happen

You voted to leave and didn’t give a thought to what might/could/will happen? Are you sure? Why vote at all then?

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 16:05

Yes, I feel strongly about being tied to the EU, it was for trade and not everything it has evolved into .

Sunnyuplands · 20/10/2019 16:06

You want to divorce your husband.

At that moment you don't know who will end up with what assets.
But you do know at the end, you won't be married anymore.

It's how these things work!

Pumperthepumper · 20/10/2019 16:07

You are not seriously saying you voted to leave without thinking for a second how it would effect you, your children or the other people who live in your country?

Roussette · 20/10/2019 16:09

I wanted to go, so I said yes

Why? When you've said you have no idea what's going to happen. And you say it's never been about what might happen. Sorry but it is everything about what could happen.

I didn't know a lot in 2016 but I had a fair idea of what might happen if we went out, deal or no deal. End of FOM which would affect my children and children's children (very important to me), trouble with trade deals, I guessed NI would prove a sticking point, etc etc. And on that scant knowledge, I voted to Remain.
Why vote if you knew nothing?

Faffette · 20/10/2019 16:10

"mummmy2017

Yes, I feel strongly about being tied to the EU, it was for trade and not everything it has evolved into ."

What is that everything it has evolved into?, that you don't want anymore?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/10/2019 16:10

Except that people don’t just suddenly divorce their husband just because they’ve decided to. The assets won’t be decided but at some point there will have been some thought about how life would be better once you have divorced.

BertrandRussell · 20/10/2019 16:11

“I wanted to go, so I said yes.“

Why did you want to go?

Faffette · 20/10/2019 16:12

"Sunnyuplands

You want to divorce your husband.

At that moment you don't know who will end up with what assets.
But you do know at the end, you won't be married anymore."

But presumably you have an idea as to why you want that divorce. And what you and the children will gain from it?

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 16:13

Pumperthepumper
Heck yes.
Never had I thought I could vote for this.
Shocked when we got a vote.
Thrilled when we won.
I know we won't end up like a third world country, so willing to accept what comes along, as worth it to be out.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/10/2019 16:15

But what benefits of being out are worth the cost of leaving? You must be able to identify some to have made a knowledgeable decision.

Faffette · 20/10/2019 16:15

mummmy2017, how do you know it will be worth it when you don't know what the cost will be?

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 16:16

No , every point I make gets shot down.
So now my stance is , anything is worth it so long as we leave.
