AIBU to worry that the (almost certain) delay in Brexit will give rise to civil unrest?

People in early North Korea also felt they have it

Have you read anything about NK? I think not. We are going down a rabbit hole comparing the UK to North Korea Shock

Have a look at this. what-europe-does-for-me.eu/en/portal

We get a hell of a lot out the EU that we don't talk about, don't know about, don't acknowledge...

Faffette · 20/10/2019 16:37

mummmy2017

There definitely is a lot wrong in the UK. But perhaps you could look closer to home to see why that is. Or you could blame the EU. That must be it. Nothing to do with the UK government, who haven't had a say anything since the EU took over.

longwayoff · 20/10/2019 16:39

Got to hand it to Cummings though, he is a virtuoso of social media even though his unattributed statements from No 10 sound as if they were culled from the pages of the Beano, he knows his market and how to play it. He must be laughing himself to sleep every night.

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 16:40

When you have nothing and live on just your money each week, and this has been the case for 30 years, any change that is a massive change is welcomed.
Yes it may have been Tory or Labour that caused this, but a vote for remain meant more of the same for the rest of your lives.
So the poor , down trodden voted along with the older voters .

Roussette · 20/10/2019 16:43

That is bloody sad to think like that mummy because the changes leaving will bring will do absolutely nothing for the poor and downtrodden, and will do them more damage in respect of workers rights amongst many other things

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 16:48

Roussette
I know so many people who do feel that life is just a monotonous slog .
Never own a home, need a car buy the £500 one as all you can afford.
So long as something works you use it as your money covers food, rent and the children, mum and dad have nothing.
Savings what are they?

Pumperthepumper · 20/10/2019 16:52

@mummmy2017 I am honestly incredulous that your argument is that you wanted it, for reasons you can’t explain, and voted for it without thinking for a second how you or your children or your community would be better OR worse off. That just doesn’t make sense!

Limitedsimba123 · 20/10/2019 16:55

Mummy2017

Do you understand that with the withdrawal agreement, employee rights are no longer guaranteed to be legally protect? Do you honestly think the rich people who started this in the first place, want Brexit to happen so the lives of the working class are better?

I’m not saying that some people aren’t struggling today, but in general I think most enjoy a better standard of living than what people did in the 70’s, 80’s and earlier. And those that don’t are the victims of austerity measures. It has nothing to do with the EU.

Roussette · 20/10/2019 16:57

mummy2017 and I feel very sorry for those people.

But to think that coming out of the EU will make life better is so so misguided. Because it will do the opposite.

So how exactly is brexit going to make things better for me?

theunknownknown · 20/10/2019 17:01

I am incredulous that you know so many people whose life is a continual slog and yet you have voted for and continue to endorse making the lives of those very same people worse. Seriously worse. So much more worse that they will look back on these days as halcyon ones.
I would just like one person, one person to name an EU law that has had a detrimental effect on their day to day life.
Just one will do...

Tellmetruth4 · 20/10/2019 17:02

Kier Starmer laid it out in black and white yesterday when he said that the only reason the UK government would want to diverge from EU workers rights regulations was to weaken them as individual countries can strengthen rights within the current framework. He also reminded us that US workers only have the right to 10 days paid annual leave a year.

I can only guess mummy2017 doesn’t work or is a business owner keen to remove ‘red tape’ or husband is a business owner and she’s greedy. I can’t see why else she would think leaving and diverging from EU workers rights regs would be a good idea.

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 17:07

Single mum for 25 ish years .
Working.
But with just one income you live with no frills.
Bad credit, so landlords hold you over a barrel.
So Tory or Labour nothing changed.
So simply I want to leave, you all fail to see so many people who have nothing have nothing to lose in leaving.

ListeningQuietly · 20/10/2019 17:08

...

timshelthechoice · 20/10/2019 17:09

I'm still wondering (drums fingers). Again: Name one thing, just one, that we, the UK, have to offer that any country in the world needs but cannot get somewhere else and probably for cheaper?

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 17:11

timshelthechoice
Your refusing to see this is about emotions not needs..

Pumperthepumper · 20/10/2019 17:11

@mummmy2017 so what did you think would change?

Pumperthepumper · 20/10/2019 17:13

Also @mummmy2017 how would you vote if there was another referendum? Since there’s absolutely no question now that Britain will be worse off after Brexit?

Limitedsimba123 · 20/10/2019 17:13

You work though, so you do have something to lose. And you will lose this, if the withdrawal agreement is passed.

Faffette · 20/10/2019 17:14

That's really sad to hear Mummmy. I am sorry you are struggling like this. It is awful that people struggle and nothing changes.

I suppose if Brexit goes ahead, things will turn to shit enough, that we get some sort of revolution. Maybe things need to get really bad before they get better.

timshelthechoice · 20/10/2019 17:14

you all fail to see so many people who have nothing have nothing to lose in leaving.

No, rather, I can definitely see how people who have nothing can and will sink even lower by this. FFS, Universal Credit and PIP alone have caused untold misery and deaths. Now with leaving the poor, sick and disabled will be left entirely at the mercy of a cadre of fascist oligarchs who don't give a flying fuck about anything at all besides their own personal wealth and that of their cronies.

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 17:15

Major change everywhere.
Instead of more of the same.
Successive Governments have looked like the one before.
Leaving will force change.
Why else do you think the vote even happened, unless people were unhappy with what is.

theunknownknown · 20/10/2019 17:15

mummy2017
You are wrong - I fully understand why people such as you wanted to leave. The problem is that you backed the wrong horse. If you seriously believed that de Pfeffel Johnson, Gove, Rees Mogg, Farage etc have your interests at heart you were mistaken.
You might think you have nothing to lose at the moment, but lets seriously hope you never get ill or your children don't get ill in an american system of healthcare. They are chomping at the bit to get their hands on our health system. I hope you will be able to afford the insurance.
Me? I'm kind of alright. Mortgage free, have a relatively secure job, good savings. And that all important dual nationality. But I still give a shit about people like you. I really do. I despair that people in your circumstances believe that these liars and charlatans give a shit about you. They don't.

Tellmetruth4 · 20/10/2019 17:15

Sorry mummy2017 but you have a lot to lose. You clearly don’t have relatives in developing countries...or who are poor in America. I have both and have seen it close up. I also have poor relatives living in the Midlands. The Brummy relatives have a better time than the other two groups.

Having a wide perspective makes me realise how much we have and how far it’s possible to fall. There are mothers selling their kids to peados for food in some countries.

Roussette · 20/10/2019 17:20

So simply I want to leave, you all fail to see so many people who have nothing have nothing to lose in leaving

This is just so sad, so awful, so ridiculous. All I ask is... do you get it now that workers rights will undoubtedly be eroded? So you and your friends who struggle will find life will be harder.

The EU guarantees limits on working time, rights about being consulted on issues, paid holidays will reduce, agency workers will have no protection, redundancy rights may well be threatened... and so on...
And we haven't even touched on pregnancy/maternity, part time workers
