Brexit postponed

AIBU to worry that the (almost certain) delay in Brexit will give rise to civil unrest?

OP posts:

Emotions will always come into voting that’s how it works always has it was a huge gamble to have a referendum

Why do charismatic leaders win people over, why do politicians go out campaigning and use photo opportunities, why is particular language used of hope and fear - this is to tap into people’s emotions

It’s not something new it’s always been this way and always will be

Parker231 · 21/10/2019 07:47

European Central Bank have stated that everyone will be worse off by leaving EU.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 21/10/2019 07:58

I agree on the Labour vote...

Mummy. The business leaders who were supporting Brexit are in it for themselves, not for people. Dyson? Not even in UK and has had few issues with EU. Martin? Pretty sure he is in it hoping the worker's rights erode so he can make their work even worse while lining his pocket. And so on. And so on.

Let me tell you something very clearly. In this mess NONE OF THEM CARE ABOUT YOU AND OTHERS. They don't care whether you can put food on a table, whether you can pay rent. They just don't. What they care about is a separate tax system from EU they can use to make their profits bigger.

No-one ever rioted in protest that they want to be poorer.

OP is being stupidly inflammatory.

And the ONLY WAY of 'getting it done and out of the way' is to revoke.

TheSultanofPingu · 21/10/2019 08:33

Oh mummmy Sad

MrPan · 21/10/2019 08:37

And despite the "it's the will of the people - respect the referendum" - there isn't a majority in the UK FOR Brexit. For lots of reasons, but mainly:

  • we now know so much more about the consequences than we did in 2016, and
  • the voting demograph has changed.

This is the ONLY reason why Brexiters do not wish a 2nd Ref. - because it means they will have to 'respect the will of the people', oddly.

theunknownknown · 21/10/2019 08:42

Mummy
I’m guessing you vote Tory because you don’t think you are one of the scrounges or shirkers. But you are. We all are. They don’t give a shit about us. They don’t.
Name one way a labour government would negatively impact you? You mention football clubs!!! I mean wtf?

You need to stop reading sound bites and start thinking critically about what is behind the headlines.
Most focus groups support labour policy when they are shown to them blind. Why do you think Corbyn is given such bad press? Think about why. He wants a fairer society where we all prosper. What is so wrong with that?
I would probably be better off under a tory government. But I know that as a society that would make a lot of people worse off. So I would rather eat my neighbour’s toenails than vote Tory.
Which is why I simply cannot understand why people like you are happy to vote leave based on feelings the consequence of which we are all fucked over.

bellinisurge · 21/10/2019 08:44

Don't waste your time with mummmy. It's all about her feelz. What you think makes no difference and is not of interest to her. This whole carry on is to adhere to her feelings.

Pumperthepumper · 21/10/2019 08:48

I feel like the ‘voting on emotions’ argument maybe explains why people voted the way they did in 2016 - but definitely not now, not when we know all the facts. Nobody, absolutely nobody, thinks we’ll be in any way better off after Brexit. I just can’t imagine having that blind faith that it’s for the best in the face of overwhelming evidence that it won’t be. Which leads me to believe it’s because people don’t want to ‘back down’ or ‘lose face’ or admit they were lied to and they believed it.

Leading us into a shit situation because you won’t admit you were wrong makes me absolutely sick.

theunknownknown · 21/10/2019 08:52

bellini
I hear you. What angers me though is listening to leavers on the radio this morning. The aggression and lack of intelligence frightens me. The triumphalism. They don’t know what is about to be unleashed on them.
I wonder who they’ll blame in a couple of years?

MrPan · 21/10/2019 09:02

And the role of the BBC and it's lack of impartiality is a national embarrassment. Kuenssberg presents as BJ's handmaid.
No balance on QT, vox pop items nor interviewings on Today.
This morning on Today had an interviewer heckling the Lab Shadow Health person with "you just want to trash the PMs deal!" - "err..no..we are proposing to amend it" "No you're not you are trashing it!"
It's called politics and Parl process BBC.

And Kuenssberg attacking Sturgeon for doing her job. Breath-taking.

mummmy2017 · 21/10/2019 09:08

Very true, I vote out because I want to go.
Your saying everyone needs to change that as your saying financially we should stay.
Well all that is going to happen is delays until either some MPs decide to vote for a deal, in which case Parliament has enough votes to swing things on after Brexit events.
Or we get an election , either soon or 2022 is it? And we get a pro Brexit Parliament.
In which case we leave.

Parker231 · 21/10/2019 09:10

I don’t have a problem with anyone voting the way they want to as that is part of the process but I have a huge issue with voters who can’t articulate the reasons why. Just wanting to leave is plain daft!

mummmy2017 · 21/10/2019 09:12

Yes and 17 Million and almost half of Parliament. Want to leave.

BertrandRussell · 21/10/2019 09:12

@mummmy2017- how do you expect your life to be better when we leave?

mummmy2017 · 21/10/2019 09:13

I really don't care anymore, I just want to go..

theunknownknown · 21/10/2019 09:13

So even after everything that everyone here has told you you still want to leave.
Good luck to you - you’re going to need it.
Promise you’ll come back this time two years hence to let us know how you’re getting in won’t you?
But don’t spout bullshit about this country healing - I will never ever forgive people like you for what you’ve done.
Frankly you deserve everything you get.

BertrandRussell · 21/10/2019 09:18

“I really don't care anymore, I just want to go..“
Yes I can understand that. When you voted leave, how were you expecting your life to be better when we left?

mummmy2017 · 21/10/2019 09:20

Being told I am wrong means nothing.
Boris was voted in to get us out.
Voted in by his party who won an Election.
If he was allowed an Election he could have the numbers required to pass this.
But at some point the can kicking and the numbers will change and then you will have to accept what was always going to happen. We will leave, with or without a deal.

mummmy2017 · 21/10/2019 09:22

BertrandRussell I have no idea, I know there will be major changes, but until we know how we are leaving anything I say is just an idea.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 21/10/2019 09:23

Why are you all still trying to get from mummy how is her life going to change for better?
There is no point. I am more and more convinced it's not about getting better, but about making everyone else's equally crap

BertrandRussell · 21/10/2019 09:24

Well, none of us know. What are your ideas about how life will be better? I can give you ideas about how I think it will be worse- I might be wrong and I hope I am, but I can say what I think will happen.

mummmy2017 · 21/10/2019 09:28

BertrandRussell and what if your wrong.
If say after 6 months just like after the vote we are not in a downward spiral will you admit you got it wrong. That Parliament were wrong?

BertrandRussell · 21/10/2019 09:30

I will be absolutely delighted to be wrong! I live here, remember!

What do you hope will be better?
