Brexit postponed

AIBU to worry that the (almost certain) delay in Brexit will give rise to civil unrest?

Your refusing to see this is about emotions not needs..

Why, yes, Mummmy because countries make trade deals based on needs and not emotions, emotions do not import food we need to live or maintain pipeline that supplies transport and you said we were not a 'dot of nothingness' so I posed the question, which no one has answered, that if that's so then name me one thing that we, the UK, has to supply or offer that any other country needs (and wants) that they (those other countries) cannot get elsewhere and likely for cheaper.

Because not a single country is coming forward, much less tripping over themselves, to offer us a trade deal that has more favourable terms than we have under the EU. Not one!

Emotions keep the power on when you want to cook or pipe gas around so you don't freeze to death in Winter.

It's downright frightening that some actually believe they have nothing because I've sadly had the unfortunate experience of actually living in places where people truly have FA, the infrastructure is so poor and fragile, and they are really, really not nice places to live. 'Misery unleashes the beast in men'.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 20/10/2019 17:28

So Tory or Labour nothing changed.
So simply I want to leave, you all fail to see so many people who have nothing have nothing to lose in leaving

I think this is what Remain didn’t address didn’t get people had the chance for a real change and they took it because nothing had got better for so long for many things had got harder. If you can’t get that then you really do not understand how political voting works

And you lack empathy

So many remainers are in their superior bubble and can’t see they too have been duped into believing in the second referendum or the chance of article 50

Not a chance after article 50 was triggered it was just a matter of time and that can drag on longer that’s all that will happen now

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 17:28

Tellmetruth4
People know Brexit will never get to the stage your commenting on.
I could never accept a man , who was not the father of my children, so stayed single, I tried to explain to my sibling that means I was 30k down a year on their household income, over 23 years that is a massive amount of money .
I don't think you can blame just brexit for the hospital's and Doctors, the age of our elderly and the medical advances also mean what money there is pays for less.

timshelthechoice · 20/10/2019 17:28

Sorry, emotions don't. Exactly, TellMe.

timshelthechoice · 20/10/2019 17:29

People know Brexit will never get to the stage your commenting on.

Then why on Earth did you just say we don't know what Brexit will bring but hey, as long as it's change, it's all good?

People have NO idea what stage anything will get to with this, none, zero, not even those in power.

This is like watching trees walk into a fire.

KennDodd · 20/10/2019 17:36

I think were facing civil unrest whichever way this goes. We've already had the birth of the New IRA. All over an issue nobody gave a shit about before 2016 went Cameron poisoned the country with his referendum to settle a spat between posh boys in the Tory party.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/10/2019 17:57

I think this is what Remain didn’t address didn’t get people had the chance for a real change and they took it because nothing had got better for so long for many things had got harder. If you can’t get that then you really do not understand how political voting works

So explain it to me then. How am I, in the bottom 10% of income, going to see the benefits of brexit. What exactly are those benefits going to be?

TheresWaldo · 20/10/2019 17:59

"Is there any greater value than political freedom?" Next year I will become completely disenfranchised. I won't be able to vote anywhere despite paying taxes for 30 years. My pension is now threatened. My dd's ability to study in a place of her choosing is up the swanny. These are quite minor things though when compared to the shit show of austerity/deregulation and price rises that are going to hit. The fact the likes of Mummmy2017 cannot see this I find quite terrifying. It is a complete misunderstanding of how the world works these days.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 20/10/2019 18:06

RafaIsTheKingOfClay

That’s the job for politicians to do

TheresWaldo · 20/10/2019 18:07

The pension uprate is nothing to do with EU for example. Some countries had agreements with UK and some didn't. So for example if you moved to Australia or Canada it was clear that your pension was not going to be indexed linked. If you moved to France or Spain, it was. They have chosen to guarantee indexation for only the next 3 years. This isn't even to do with Brexit as it not controlled by the Eu, this is more austerity measures on the sly.

timshelthechoice · 20/10/2019 18:10

That’s the job for politicians to do

Those same ones Leavers say they don't trust those politicians to do 'the will of the people' by crashing us out of the EU?

theunknownknown · 20/10/2019 18:11

But the thing is it is not even austerity on the sly. I remember Cameron's last campaign. He clearly stated there would be £12 billion worth of cuts and refused to say where.
Even I didn't have it in me to feel sorry for the stupid, stupid woman crying on QuestionTime when the cuts were coming to her.
Was fine when they were being chucked down on the disabled though.
If people really think it can't get any worse, they need to give their heads a good old mumsnet wobble.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 20/10/2019 18:18

I didn’t vote leave

So not going to explain why voting leave will be better

Read my post it was about what lead to many people voting leave - people don’t vote on just figures and stats they vote on promises for change for he better, on gut feelings and what may or may not impact their lives

I voted on project fear others voted on fear of things never changing

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 20/10/2019 18:22

Ach mummy...
If you thought you have nothing to lose, you are in for a surprise...

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/10/2019 18:26

That’s basically the answer I was given yesterday.

I’m rapidly coming to the conclusion that some of the leavers on MN are full of shit and spout this line about the poor/ordinary people just to take some sort of moral high ground over ‘remainers’.

What makes it worse is, not only are you using those of us living in poverty whilst not really giving a fuck, you have actively made it worse for us and then hide behind excuses of ‘that’s for the politicians to sort out.’

Monestasi · 20/10/2019 18:33

Why are we leaving?
Because there was a vote.
We got asked do you want to go.
I wanted to go, so I said yes.
This has never been about what might happen, what could happen, or what will happen

This particular poster is an idiot. A massive fucking idiot. One that has determined our future to date.

Moonmelodies · 20/10/2019 18:34

Perhaps some people want us to leave the EU because they fear our working rights and conditions will end up like places like Romania or Bulgaria.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 20/10/2019 18:36

@Monestasi I was worried I would get banned if I said that. Absolutely agree.
How did people not think about what might happen?
It's like saying "we are going on holidays because we need change of scenery" and turning up at the airport with no plane ticket, suitcase or passport and then moan that it's all shit. Because I can guarantee the moaning will come.

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 18:38

Well you should have made sure more people who could vote, and wanted to remain put a tick in a box, on the day it mattered . @Monestasi
Hindsight is such a wonderful thing.

Bigeater · 20/10/2019 18:43

Mummy I appreciate your honesty.

Do you feel inclined to push for a 2nd referendum if you feel like you understand more now?

Theworldisfullofgs · 20/10/2019 18:44

Quite a lot of people wanted to vote who will be affected by this, but they weren't allowed to and were told it wasn't necessary, because it was meant to be advisory.

And Monestasi you are right.

Rumboogie · 20/10/2019 18:52

Do you understand that with the withdrawal agreement, employee rights are no longer guaranteed to be legally protect?

Do you honestly think the UK had no employment law before the EU?

The EU guarantees limits on working time

And that has totally f**ked up medical training for one thing. That plus Calmanisation means we now have doctors who know nothing.

These threads would be laughable if they weren't so sad. Echo chambers for ill informed liberal lefties in their bubble

LaurieMarlow · 20/10/2019 19:03

And that has totally fked up medical training for one thing

No it hasn’t, they all sign an opt out. As do most professionals.

Do you actually know any doctors?

The less you talk about ppl being ill informed the better.

mummmy2017 · 20/10/2019 19:04

The view on the street is even more would vote leave...

Hoooo · 20/10/2019 19:04

mummy
I'm going to make this is simple as I can and ask you a genuine question...
What, exactly, do you think the ERGers and Bannon, farage et al mean when they talk of a "bonfire of red tape" after we leave the EU?
Do you think that means a better life for you and yours?
These people openly talk about dismantling the NHS. They are on record as doing so. So, hopefully, you and yours are all healthy with no long term or chronic health issues? I hope so.
These people will end workers rights - sick pay, maternity pay, paternity pay...will be gone.
Health and safety laws that keep workers safe and not dead...gone.
Deregulation of all public services. Unsage water? Tough shit! (Flint in the US still has undrinkable water...)
So whilst I hear your complaints - and understand them - your life and the lives of those you love are about to get MUCH worse.
The very idea that anyone thinks JRM or Boris Johnson cares about the most vulnerable in our society is preposterous.
But...ok.
Good luck to you.
