Posting here as everyone I've told finds this hilarious ( except me)

Every 8 weeks i go out with my DH DB and SIL. It is this weekend every 8 weeks that i don't have DSS's so i do look forward to this particular weekend a lot.

So Saturday night we all went out to an Indian restaurant which is lovely and you take your own alcohol. Last time we went out i took the alcohol (prosecco) this time SIL said she'd get it so all good.

We were having a nice night but something was missing i don't drink very often but when i do i enjoy the tipsy feeling but this night it just wasn't happening. There weren't as many laughs or funny conversations i thought maybe it was me. It was still a nice night just not as fun as normal.

Anyway as we were parting ways SIL said did you enjoy the prosecco i said yes thanks it was nice she then said it was alcohol free and said that i could thank her in the morning winked and walked off!!

Thing is I'd planned the Sunday to be a lazy day with Netflix and a thick head so i didn't want to thank her.

I told a few of my friends in group chat they think it was extremely funny as they know how much i look forward to this particular night out and enjoy my rare chance to drink.

I never drink at home or out with DSS's as DSS's DM is alcoholic, they don't like alcohol infact can't stand it so we never drink around them hence why i look forward to the weekend every 2 months the boys stay with their nana.

To be honestly part of me finds it bloody hilarious to but the other part of me thinks what a cow doing that 😂

P.S i didn't thank her the next morning

I think it's a bit odd that she thought that was a funny thing to do. Was she trying to be passive aggressive about you enjoying the occasional drink? If so, I'd not be very impressed by that. As for saying you'd thank her in the morning, I think I would have told her that I'm a grown up and can make my own decisions as to whether I want to partake in an alcoholic drink or not.

This is easy. Just continue to furnish her with non alcoholic beverages in the future whilst enjoying your own alcoholic drinks.

I don’t see how it’s CF. A bit weird but maybe she’s on a health kick. Mind you she could have just brought water. There is no way in hell I would suffer through Prosecco unless it was alcoholic enough to full the taste.

Next time, bring alchol for those who do and for her, bring a single can of some soft drink as she clearly wants to avoid drinking. Smile sweetly as you give it to her!

I am 31 and have been a stepmum 11 years if that makes any difference to anyone. I definitely don't think you can only have a good night if your drinking alcohol just to add

I definitely would have asked to look at the bottle mid meal when I noticed the un tippsiness of it. That would annoy me yeah

I took "thank me" to mean you won't feel sick from a horrible hangover in the morning, so she did you a favour (lightheartedly).
Does she know about your plans of enjoying the next day with a boozed brain? You could just as lightheartedly and sarcastically tell her you had plans that involved there being alcohol in your system, so she is due no thanks and should infact apologise for ruining your day.

Missing the point, but what is this marvellous alcohol free Prosecco that you couldn't tell the taste difference from real stuff? I really need to cut down on alcohol so tried buying a couple of different brands on a weekend to try and they tasted awful- nothing like as yummy as the real thing

Oh but I think you do..and it's okay. You have a right to want to do so. I just wonder if she didn't know (not CF) or was intentionally sabotaging your plans (CF).

She is lovely we get on great and she enjoys a drink on our night out just as much as i do so completely out of character for her to make us both sober. It's usually her that gets a bit to sozzled where as i stop at tipsy. We usually have a great laugh then the next morning text each other say thanks for a good night and say how rough we feel but laugh about it.

@kitk it's actually really nice and no i didn't taste any difference to be honest. I've tried alcohol free red wine b4 can definitely tell the difference with that and it's not nice but the prosecco is great 👍🏻

I think a previous poster could be on to something, could she be hiding a pregnancy?

Otherwise it's weirdly controlling behaviour. Even if she is pregnant it's weird and I wouldn't be impressed. But if there's no misguided excuse it's very strange - I don't care if anyone else drinks when I'm out but if I want a glass of wine with a meal I'd be very annoyed at another adult denying me it.
