I have the Lurpack butter dish and egg cups which I have never used and need to dispose of.

I also have an insulated plastic butter dish which is about 20 years old at least and a glass one (not the cow one). Also have our family one which is probably 50 or 60 years old but is packed away.

I use President spreadable butter or Lurpack, in a tub because I am the only person in the house that uses bread, so rarely anyone else uses butter and the block butter is kept for cooking.

JasonPollack · 14/10/2019 12:44

Mine says TWAW in big purple letters Wink

managedmis · 14/10/2019 12:44

Is this a thing on MN? Butter dishes? Never seen a thread on them before

SweetieP1e · 14/10/2019 12:45

... sorry, last message was for Silvery Surfer

BuildBuildings · 14/10/2019 12:46

I did mine at one of those pottery painting places. I used to not but butter as much because it was unusable in the fridge for breath etc. We don't buy spreadable butter and just use this. Butter never goes off and is way nicer. And I love the dish!

My mum used to have the stainless steel one with the black handle on the lid someone posted early on. Memories!

pooopypants · 14/10/2019 12:51

I keep butter in an old ice cream tub. I'm a slattern though.

TheChampagneGalop · 14/10/2019 12:55

Lots of pretty butter dishes in this thread. I didn't know that it was okay to store butter outside of the fridge and feel a bit nervous about joining this trend.

braw · 14/10/2019 12:57

I have the whale one too! I love him dearly. My little buttery friend.

Grambler · 14/10/2019 13:00

BillywigSting you need a very special butter dish that doesn't look anything like a butter dish that you can hide your butter in. Get the cat carrier one! Or buy a plain white one and sharpie "pens" on the outside. He'll never guess.

CassandraCross · 14/10/2019 13:02

What led you to believe it wasn't okay to store butter outside of the fridge?

DickKerrLadies · 14/10/2019 13:03

I'm feeling inadequate and in need of getting a nicer butter dish. How very mean of you all.

I like being able to judge how cold it is by how much swearing I do making toast in a morning.

DamonSalvatoresDinner · 14/10/2019 13:08

Mine is just a stainless steel one that I will probably still own when I'm picking out what to take with me to my old folks home in 40+ years time.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/10/2019 13:11

Butter outside of the fridge is fine at British temperatures! If you lived in the desert I don't know how well it would work, you might end up with a dish full of melted butter by lunchtime.

TheChampagneGalop · 14/10/2019 13:14

Cassandra
Not knowing anyone who does, when you buy butter it's refrigerated, and milk and cream shouldn't be stored outside a fridge.

TheChampagneGalop · 14/10/2019 13:16

I'll guess I'll try it now. Another lifechanging Mumsnet thread. Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/10/2019 13:24

And yes, I am sooooo envious that you’ve got the toast rack

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/10/2019 13:28

I have two Lurpak egg cups as well!

EGG CUPS!

THERE ARE EGG CUPS?

I can feel a butter dish collection coming on..I will need to purchase a Welsh dresser for the purpose

It will be an investment Boot

CassandraCross · 14/10/2019 13:30

Salt is a preservative though and hence butter is okay out of the fridge whereas milk and cream aren't. I keep the spare pack of butter in the fridge before decanting it into the dish, but keep it in the special thingy at the top of the door which doesn't appear to be as cold as the rest of the fridge so the butter doesn't go rock hard!

Crankybitch · 14/10/2019 13:33

I have a white cow one and the black toast Emma bridgewater one

BarbaraofSeville · 14/10/2019 13:34

Schade

I have Lurpak loaf tins and brownie tins for baking. There was an offer a few years ago where you bought a pack containing two packs of butter and a free baking tray and I got two of each type.

They're really good quality and they were free if you were buying the butter anyway. I'm sure I've also seen a Lurpak ceramic toast rack.

CassandraCross · 14/10/2019 13:35

SchadenfreudePersonified - SilverySurfer posted a picture of said egg cups up thread - view it and weep (although I'm jealous of SS as I have a mere two egg cups to her four!). Quick get in touch with Don'tCall MeShitley she has a Lurpak butter dish and egg cups to dispose ofShock!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/10/2019 13:36

SchadenfreudePersonified shame you don't have the egg cups.

You utter BASTARD, Surfer

Somerville · 14/10/2019 13:37

I keep salted butter in the butter dish at room temperature. Unsalted butter lives in the fridge door for baking.
How long does unsalted butter stay fresh at room temp?

Also if someone could produce sloganed butter dishes (“butter not manspread”?) I will be your first customer.
