This is similar to mine, matches the tea, coffee, sugar cannisters. Wedding present from a no longer with us Nana. Neither DH nor I can bring ourselves to replace them - 30 years and counting!

I've used butter for ages, it took me so long to find a plate with a lid butter dish rather than the other way around but this is mine, it works well in the summer and sometimes too well in the winter. It lives on the kitchen table. (I'm also eyeing up the whale one)

So many butter dishes . . . .

. . . . so little bench space . . . .

ErrolTheDragon · 14/10/2019 16:25

Loving the idea of a butter dish ideal to take on safari!Grin

PickAChew · 14/10/2019 16:28

@GrumpiestCat we had that first Pyrex design when I was growing up in the 70s. I took the last couple of plates to uni with me in the late 80s. Used them for making pies more than for eating off!

loochmartino · 14/10/2019 16:30

How could you go on safari without a butter dish Errol? ShockWink

ThinkWittyThoughts · 14/10/2019 17:33

DH and I have long been on the lookout for a butter dish that matches our dining set.

The whale might do it.

Question: do you need to keep two dishes, so you can use one whilst washing the other?

Thought: as foil can be recycled, is it the ENVIRONMENTAL thing to do, to switch to pats of butter and ditch plastic tubs?

Florence08 · 14/10/2019 17:43

Mine-I love butter but it HAS to be Kerrygold. Nothing else comes near (except Glenstal butter-you could eat that on its own!)

I love a butter dish. Keeps it the perfect temperature for speeding

Stickybeaksid · 14/10/2019 17:56

Speeding i mean spreading and @Procrastination4 Glenstall butter is unreal

Cornberry · 14/10/2019 17:59

grambler yes it fits a normal par if butter. It’s not huuuuge. It’s by Anthropologie. I got it from John Lewis.

GoodForFlora · 14/10/2019 18:16

Yawn.

Mephisto · 14/10/2019 18:18

@GoodforFlora

Do you work for Flora?

30not13 · 14/10/2019 18:22

I wonder if there is a museum of butter dishes, anywhere?? 🤔

CassandraCross · 14/10/2019 18:38

A lot of us seem to have the Le Cresuset butter dish!

Palmysterious my gran had a lovely 1920's, or possibly 1930's butter dish, that apparently was dumped when she died. I would have loved to have had it as a reminder of her along with some of her other crockery.

Rocktheboot · 14/10/2019 18:38

I've loved looking at everyone's butter dishes, thank you for sharing!

me too!!
