I must confess though, I only ever use butter for cooking. Aside from that I don't use butter OR margerine, I use Philidelphia for spreading on everything instead

Oh I’m so jealous! I’ve been vaguely on the look out for ages but I like pink red and green in china and haven’t found anything! And now I’m moving to Australia so it will be even harder to find something. We do have the alessi boat one which I agree is very well designed but I like china! NemoIsLost They were made between the 40s and 60s and must have been very popular once as there are hundreds of these sets knocking about, I'm not sure they'll ever come back back in fashion though

I have the tray with a deep lid style. I see a few here the other way around ( with a shallow lid, deep dish). It never occurred to me to have it this way.
Which way is better? I do find the lid edge gets messy on mine.

I've got one of the Lurpack ones but I think I'm going to try and get something a bit bigger as it's a tight fit.

I like butter but not the salted - and not goat butter.

I prefer the butter dishes where the butter sits fully in a container so the deeper part is the bottom with a thinner flatter lid on top.

Personal preference purely as I find it less of a faff and it helps the butter keep in shape as it gets used. It doesn't need to be cleaned around the edges.

The heavy lidded ones sitting on a dish tend to be prettier though!

@BarbaraofSeville yep I have one like that too , and you are using it the right way up IMO . It is much easier to get to the butter particularly when its running low
