Can I have some spreadable butter recommendations

The fiance likes Flora, so that's what we get. We won't be buying it anymore. Used to normally use butter left out (before we were together) but would love to know if there's any good spreadable ones (doesn't have to be pure butter).

Aldi norpack softest

So nice

LizzyMac40 · 13/10/2019 22:58

Lurpak all the way. Used it for years. My nana used it for baking and it’s got an amazing flavour, texture to it. Tried anchor, and cheaper alternatives and all rubbish. It may be pricey but if you want your baking etc to turn out well, I would highly recommend Lurpak. 😀👍

Kind of wanting a butter dish thread now.

The Le Creuset ones look nice. And unlike the stainless steel monstrosity are microwave safe. But £30!

PickAChew · 13/10/2019 23:37

I got my le creuset butter dish for £12.99 from TXMaxx.

I have a French butter bell thanks to mumsnet, and it’s brilliant. Real butter only here. The water in the French dish creates a seal to keep it fresh longer, but it rarely lasts a week anyway (yum).
Mine is like this and it looks lovely too

Real butter arriving here today, and I’ll be popping out to get a nice butter dish too. Weirdly excited and feeling all grown up Grin

The plastic waste has sold the idea of going back to real butter to me. Off yo look at butter dishes.

beanaseireann · 14/10/2019 07:41

I have the Lakeland butter dish (x2).
In summer the butter melts in it if left out on the counter top.
In winter the butter can still be quite hard if left in the dish on the counter top.
It's not the holy grail but I've a south facing kitchen with huge windows.

Any Irish butter is lovely. Grass fed cows.

I got some nice le creuset ones in TK Maxx.

We use Anchor spreadable, like it enough that I’ve never felt the need to try another. Wouldn’t touch Flora with a barge pole.

Shessobrave · 14/10/2019 08:02

@Wombleish You must have no tastebuds! The Lirpak flavour is amazing!

Ran out of President so dh brought home Lurpak spreadable. Hated it. And he gets it free.
I only use it on toast and crumpets.

Ginfordinner · 14/10/2019 08:24

Thank you Sexnotgender. I was going to ask for recommendations. I might pop into town today to have a look.

My lovely wedding present butter dish. Virtually unused for 10 years, in constant use since!

Norpack from Aldi is perfectly fine and at a budget price

happycamper11 · 14/10/2019 09:33

*Not butter, but I go out of my way to buy milk from the Wee Isle Dairy.

I wish they did butter and cream.*

Apparently it's relatively easy to make your own butter and there is a method that involves a washing machine.

(Source is dd age 8 so don't hold me responsible for any machine damage 😆)

youllhavehadyourtea · 14/10/2019 10:01

washing machine butter! that's amazing. I'm off to google.

Butter making in the washing machine could well be our October week (science?) project.

Shessobrave · 14/10/2019 10:21

Double cream in the food processor for about 3-4 mins and then drain and you have the best butter you've ever tasted!! (Especially if you use Organic double cream!)

Add a pinch of salt before you pat into a block if you want salted

KatherineJaneway · 14/10/2019 10:23

Shirgar is the best butter.

Shessobrave · 14/10/2019 10:23

3/4 mins can be longer of course. Basically when it separates it is pretty much ready

IncrediblySadToo · 14/10/2019 10:26

I’ve read your posts, but it’s butter in a butter dish for me. Even if your kitchen is hit/cold you can either use an insulated butter dish or just pop it in the cupboard or even the fridge for a short spell.

I don’t put the whole pack in, I just chop off 1/3-1/2 and put the rest back in the fridge.

IncrediblySadToo · 14/10/2019 10:28

As for DP if he keeps suffering the consequences of putting it back in the fridge he’ll soon learn!

He’s an adult!

youllhavehadyourtea · 14/10/2019 10:33

ok, I'm googling butter making.

As Shessobrave says, most sites say you need cream. However, Wee Isle Dairy milk is full fat nonhomogenised, so it might work?

Xenia · 14/10/2019 10:34

We have spreadable lurpak. I don't really use butter except very occasionally however (and never margerine)
