Can I have some spreadable butter recommendations

The fiance likes Flora, so that's what we get. We won't be buying it anymore. Used to normally use butter left out (before we were together) but would love to know if there's any good spreadable ones (doesn't have to be pure butter).

We only buy Country Life, the massive tubs. Always got 2 or 3 on the go! It's the only one that is remotely flipping spreadable.

amusedbush · 12/10/2019 22:15

Butter in a butter dish - nothing beats it!

QueenoftheDay · 12/10/2019 22:19

I like Countrylife. Clover is alright too.

Used to use flora then my mum replaces it with Countrylife when she came to stay and my life was changed. I didn’t know it was missing from my life until I tried it 😭

QueenoftheDay · 12/10/2019 22:20

Proper lurpak is awesome but it’s also brick solid

Willowkins · 12/10/2019 22:20

If you like Lurpak, then Sainsbury's Buttersoft is pretty good.

Snowfalling · 12/10/2019 22:20

The best is Kerrygold pure butter in the wrapper, not the one in the tubs. The cows are grass fed, not fed on maize as most other brands, so it's more nutritious. I've never found another butter made with grass-fed cow's milk.

Our kitchen is either very cold or very hot and it makes the butter unsuitable for spreading when I need it (usually in a rush). Also, the Mr keeps putting it back in the fridge!

Ooh, Yes, lovely Kerrygold.
I leave a small bit out in the butter dish- nothing is better on toast. Or in sandwiches.
Look at the ingredients list..."cream, salt". Thats all Grin

TheWernethWife · 12/10/2019 22:24

M and S spreadable butter is very nice.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 12/10/2019 22:26

I like lurpak but it’s not cheap.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 12/10/2019 22:29

We have President.

We keep it in the cupboard not the fridge though. It doesn't need to go in the fridge.

Daraeve · 12/10/2019 22:29

I thin Pure Soya vegan spread is pretty convincing.

TigerJoy · 12/10/2019 22:30

Marks and Spencer hands down

SylvanianFrenemies · 12/10/2019 22:33

Definitely Naturli. Sainsburys stock it. It is really nice and buttery, no weird aftertaste like lots of margarine has. Only problem is that it contains nuts, so no suitable for everyone. I want everyone to buy it so they keep stocking it!

Stravapalava · 12/10/2019 22:33

I love Country Life and Kerrygold. I randomly found out last week that Co Op's own brand is very very nice as well

ListeningQuietly · 12/10/2019 22:34

Proper butter stored out of the fridge in a lidded butter crock

always spreadable
no weird ingredients
lower cost

Snowfalling · 12/10/2019 22:35

This thread has inspired me to buy a butter dish. Despite buying kerrygold pure butter, I've never had a butter dish and keep it in a plastic container. Yes, I'm a savage.

CileyMayRhinovirus · 12/10/2019 22:35

I only like real butter. My kids will eat anything no matter how luminously yellow, but even the smell makes me feel sick, so I am going to stop buying it and buy a new butter dish instead (my last one broke)

Stephminx · 12/10/2019 22:37

Going to sound like an idiot here but can you just store butter out of the fridge in a butter dish ? Does it not go off ?

Ginfordinner · 12/10/2019 22:39

and probably all good supermarkets.

Sadly not. I love President spreadable butter, but none of our local supermarkets stock it any more, so I usually buy Country Life or Lurpack. Tesco have stopped selling it, and Morrisons don’t sell it either.

and wondering why you prefer spreadable now?

Because I am never organised enough to leave butter out, and our kitchen is either too hot or too cold.

Used to get lurpak before becoming a sahm then couldn't face paying £9 per kilo

It doesn’t cost that much. It is £7.50 a kilo from Tesco.

StillWeRise · 12/10/2019 22:40

Sainsbury's organic butter in a butter dish
if your kitchen is cold (ours is) out the butter dish in the microwave just for a few seconds
If you are worried about fat/calories, just eat less of it
life's too short to not enjoy what you eat

scaryteacher · 12/10/2019 22:41

Lurpak here, even though I have to lug it back from the UK. The President doesn't spread as well, and I can't always get the unsalted either.

thenightsky · 12/10/2019 22:41

Kerry Gold spreadable is the best of the spreadables, but its very difficult to find anywhere that sells it these days, for some reason.

Itsallpetetong · 12/10/2019 22:48

Have used lurpak spreadable for years-tastes like normal lurpak butter really. Used to use clover but no comparison. Flora always tasted like plastic to me.
Aldi Norpak, which I’ve bougt as a cheaper version to use to make cakes, always goes mouldy in the fridge within a couple of weeks of opening.

My preference would be REAL butter but it’s very hard to just spread a little bit, as it’s so tasty, & it melts into a puddle left out in a butter dish but is rock hard in the fridge- hence the lurpak spreadable.
