Can I have some spreadable butter recommendations

The fiance likes Flora, so that's what we get. We won't be buying it anymore. Used to normally use butter left out (before we were together) but would love to know if there's any good spreadable ones (doesn't have to be pure butter).

All the supermarkets round here sell Lurpak, Country Life and own brand spreadable butter and nothing else (sob)

NoSquirrels · 12/10/2019 23:47

Lurpak spreadable. It’s about the only branded thing I’m wedded to.

Flora is completely disgusting so no bother to me to boycott them!

Ginfordinner · 12/10/2019 23:51

I don't like Flora either.

Wheat2Harvest · 12/10/2019 23:53

Lurpak too pricey

Sainsbury's own brand 'Lurpak' is just as good, in my opinion. And a lot cheaper.

Samcro · 12/10/2019 23:53

are people really going to "boycott" flora?? tbh i find the whole thing odd and bit "look at me"

Wheat2Harvest · 12/10/2019 23:54

Why not the normal butter in a butter dish? More environmentally friendly.

Not really because you have to use electricity to soften it or when it hacks holes in the bread you throw the bread out.

PancakeAndKeith · 12/10/2019 23:56

I’m going to echo proper butter in a proper butter dish.
I never put my butter in the fridge. Only me and dh. We only really use it at the weekend as we don’t have bread in the week. Lasts us about 3 weeks and was fine even in the super hot summer last year.

No, they're going to transcott it. At least, that is my understanding.

PickAChew · 13/10/2019 00:04

Last I heard, Flora had announced that it was identifying as butter and requesting that people showed some respect by not mis-spreading it.

thisisthetime · 13/10/2019 00:05

I like Yeo valley or kerrygold spreadable the best

Wallabyone · 13/10/2019 00:38

I have real butter in a Le Creuset dish and it is almost always (apart from in freakish 30+ weather) the perfect spreading temperature. Butter is one of my favourite things, it's so nice having the proper stuff.

BeesKnees4 · 13/10/2019 00:40

Graham’s , has a light version too

AlexaAmbidextra · 13/10/2019 00:47

I buy M&S easy spreading butter as it’s the only one I know that is 100% butter with no added oil.

YouFellAsleeep · 13/10/2019 01:26

With butter in a dish, do you leave the dish out all the time? Or put in fridge overnight? I bought a lovely glass butter dish a few weeks ago but I’m not too sure if it stays out or not! I’m worried it will go off.

lljkk · 13/10/2019 01:43

You leave it out all the time, fat keeps pretty well unless very hot.
My kitchen is too cold, butter is not soft at our room temperatures.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 13/10/2019 04:04

Back to butter it is then.... I was on flora light for my waist. I just accepted it was shit and my toast would be ruined in the morning. It put me off more bread during the day.
My family will suffer no more.

BetsyBigNose · 13/10/2019 05:27

Another vote for proper butter kept out of the fridge in a butter dish - used for toast (nothing else will do!) and cooking (essential in mashed potato and cakes!) We're not fussy on brand though, we usually get what ever is on offer at the time. Toast isn't worth eating unless it's slathered with a thick, melty layer of proper butter (I'm excited for my breakfast now, but it's only 5:25am on a Sunday)!

For sandwiches (rather than ripping the bread to pieces by trying to spread even slightly firm proper butter on it), we use I Can't Believe it's Not Butter. Around these parts, you can only buy it in Sainsbury's or Lidl - neither Tesco, Morrisons or ASDA seem to stock it. It is competitively priced though, at around £2.15 or less for a 1kg tub.

BetsyBigNose · 13/10/2019 05:37

I've just followed a PP's clicky link (thanks @quincejamplease) to have a look at the Lakeland butter dish... £19.99 for a container to keep your butter in?! You can get brand new Le Creuset ones on ebay for the same price.

shearwater · 13/10/2019 05:49

Lurpak tastes the best by far.

sashh · 13/10/2019 05:54

Going to sound like an idiot here but can you just store butter out of the fridge in a butter dish ? Does it not go off ?

Nope It will last a good couple of weeks.

If the kitchen is too cold then 10 secs in the microwave sorts it, if it is too warm then keepin the fridge door and again microwave. Or use an insulated butter dish.

toomuchtooold · 13/10/2019 07:15

Another vote for Kerrygold spreadable here. Going to be quite miffed if Brexit interferes with the supply!

Ginfordinner · 13/10/2019 07:22

I can't find Kerrygold in the shops any more.

Novocastrian · 13/10/2019 07:26

Proper butter is unspreadable in winter. We switch to spreadable butter once autumn sets in.

Asda's version of Lurpack spread contains the same % of butter as Lurpack.

SinkGirl · 13/10/2019 07:57

Definitely recommend Lurpak Softest for those who like it but can’t spread it. It’s brilliant.

Clawdy · 13/10/2019 08:06

President. Won't buy anything else.
