Can I have some spreadable butter recommendations

The fiance likes Flora, so that's what we get. We won't be buying it anymore. Used to normally use butter left out (before we were together) but would love to know if there's any good spreadable ones (doesn't have to be pure butter).

Lurpak reduced salt spreadable in our house. Can't live without it!

Sexnotgender · 13/10/2019 08:28

I can't find Kerrygold in the shops any more.

I’ve found Sainsbury’s sell it, Morrison’s don’t seem to.

Ginfordinner · 13/10/2019 09:23

I'm nowhere near a Sainsburys or Waitrose. I can do an online delivery though, which I might do just to stock up on President spreadable Grin

PickAChew · 13/10/2019 09:26

@BetsyBigNose I can't believe it's not butter really isn't butter though.

It's also manufactured by the same parent company as goodbye mumsnet you bunch of bigots flora.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/10/2019 09:26

Morrisons also sell President spreadable. Plus you can get spreadable pure butter in M&S.

Why are you posting in AIBU?

You’re an adult. Go to the supermarket and choose one or read the other thread.🙄

Butter. In a butter dish so it's spreadable

Ginfordinner · 13/10/2019 09:45

Sadly, not around here Barbara Sad

DerbyshireGirly · 13/10/2019 09:52

Kerrygold, President or Duchy salted in a butter dish.

GrumpiestCat · 13/10/2019 09:55

Get normal butter in the foil pack and put in a butter dish. Leave it out somewhere fairly cool. La voila. Permanently spreadable butter.

ScreamingValenta · 13/10/2019 10:03

Another vote for using a butter dish and keeping some butter at room temperature (slice off from main block in fridge) - works fine unless there's a heatwave.

My vote for a decent margarine goes to Clover.

I don't think I've ever bought Flora. Growing up, we were a Vitalite family ( ... woo - oooh ... Vitalite! )

TheAlternativeTentacle · 13/10/2019 10:25

Am loving all the old and new 'butter out of the fridge' converts. Really, we only put it in during a heatwave. Otherwise it sits in the cupboard in the President container.

And I am going to source a hand made ceramic butter dish from one of the ceramicists I follow to put it in, for my OH for Christmas. And stop buying the containers as well, just buy the block.

Thanks Flora Marketing dude.

Sexnotgender · 13/10/2019 10:31

I have both butter out in a dish and spreadable president butter on the fridge.

DoubtingMyPatience · 13/10/2019 10:32

I could eat lurpak by the spoon 🤤🤤

Boireannachlaidir · 13/10/2019 10:48

All the "spreadable" ones including ghastly tasteless spreads like Flora and also butters have been processed to death.

Proper butter will easily spread at room temperature, if you ever need to soften it just take some out of the dish & whack it against the worktop it will be as soft as...butter Smile

GrumpiestCat · 13/10/2019 10:57

Nothing as satisfying as a lovely vintage 1980s pyrex butter dish.

The only margarine I use is Stork, and that is for baking only.

JenniferM1989 · 13/10/2019 11:27

Slightly salted spreadable lurpak if it's on offer or clover if lurpak is on at it's usual price.

We have a brand in Scotland called Graham's and they do a nice spreadable butter but they changed it and seem to be adding too much rapeseed oil now so it's got quite a yellow colour to it. I hope they change it back as it's a nice butter (mostly butter with a small amount of rapeseed oil blended in to make it spreadable). Lurpak just seem to get that balance right, a really nice colour and butter taste but it's just too expensive when full price!

MRex · 13/10/2019 11:29

Lurpak olive oil is easily the tastiest. It has a buttery flavour, but very slightly healthier, it's put me off real butter because it tastes nicer.

LakieLady · 13/10/2019 11:40

Get yourself the Lakeland insulated butter dish and some real butter!

Does it keep real butter at a spreadable temperature? We don't have a microwave any more (DP would never clean it, I never used it and we decided it wasn't worth sacrificing worktop space for).

We have President or Lurpak. We buy Lurpak when it's on special offer, but when it's not, we pay a bit more and have President as a treat. I find Kerrygold and Country Life too salty, and Aldi/Lidl dupes too waxy and not creamy enough.

ColdRainAgain · 13/10/2019 11:43

Right, the Lakeland dish. Does it keep the stuff slightly warmer than kitchen overnight temp in the winter?
I need an upgrade from saucer with upturned bowl ontop.... it was fine all summer, just left on the side, but it is getting a little solid currently. Maybe I just need the heating on???

About butter going off. Previous house was cooled to 27C all summer. Butter used to be fine for a couple of days. I never cut more off a block than that to test it further tho . There arent going to be many UK houses hotter than that for long.

MsTSwift · 13/10/2019 11:46

I will be stocking up on president also an ex flora customer not any more

Wombleish · 13/10/2019 11:52

We've had that insulated butter dish from Lakeland for years and can state from experience that it makes no difference to the butter at all. It still goes too soft and melty when it's hot and rock hard when it's cold.

Wombleish · 13/10/2019 11:59

I really question the tastebuds of those people who think Lurpak is the best butter ever. It's completely flavourless Grin
