Can I have some spreadable butter recommendations

The fiance likes Flora, so that's what we get. We won't be buying it anymore. Used to normally use butter left out (before we were together) but would love to know if there's any good spreadable ones (doesn't have to be pure butter).

Black tub Golden Cow

My butter lives in here all year round.

Can I have some spreadable butter recommendations
TheWernethWife · 13/10/2019 13:11

Jennifer we love Graham's spreadable butter in the dark blue tub, but sadly not available in England. When we visit family in Edinburgh we bring back loads of it and put it in the freezer. Otherwise its good old M & S for us.

Gazelda · 13/10/2019 14:06

Countrylife because I read somewhere that it doesn't use palm oil (might be factually incorrect).

But I'm now inspired to go hunting for a fabulous butter dish because I do love 'proper' butter. The saltier the better.

LEELULUMPKIN · 13/10/2019 14:08

Another vote for M&S here.

Breathlessness · 13/10/2019 14:23

President do spreadable? I shop through my favourites online so I’ve never seen it before. Thank you.

Flora were feeding people dangerous trans fats for years while claiming to be better than butter for your heart. They sued someone for advertising their brand as a safer alternative to Flora (because it was free of trans fats) while quietly reducing the % trans fats in their spread.

I'm a clover girl. Dd loves clover so I buy a little one when she's home from uni.

M&S spreadable butter

Fuma · 13/10/2019 14:30

For those who like lurpak spreadable, you can get a massive tub of it at Morrisons right now.

Personally, I prefer actual butter over foodstuff-that-identifies-as-butter so I'll be sticking with that. Specifically Morrisons french with sea salt.

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 13/10/2019 14:33

You can leave butter out of the fridge for a very long time before it starts to go sour.

I like Lurpak or Kerrygold (I tend to avoid UK farm produce). Both spreadable at room temperature.

Fuma · 13/10/2019 14:37

Oops should have said ... you can get a massive tub of it for six quid at Morrisons. Seriously it's huge.

MollysMummy2010 · 13/10/2019 14:47

PancakesAndKeith I have the same butter dish and it stays out year round

Ginfordinner · 13/10/2019 14:52

Why @FiddlesticksAkimbo?

I live in a farming community and like to support UK farmers, local or otherwise.

youllhavehadyourtea · 13/10/2019 14:57

Not butter, but I go out of my way to buy milk from the Wee Isle Dairy.

I wish they did butter and cream.

PancakeAndKeith · 13/10/2019 15:09

Mine is often out for a couple of weeks. Even in the middle of summer it never goes off.

Andysbestadventure · 13/10/2019 15:11

M&S or the cornish salted butter in Asda

sheshootssheimplores · 13/10/2019 15:12

Aldi and Lidl have spreadable butter options that taste lovely.

UnaOfStormhold · 13/10/2019 15:16

For non-vegans just wanting something spreadable/lighter, lurpak spreadable is great. For vegans/those with dairy allergies, Waitrose do a nice avocado oil spread which doesn't have the unpleasant margarine taste that Flora has - it does have palm oil in but it's RSPO certified so shouldn't be too bad for the environment.

mogtheexcellent · 13/10/2019 15:16

Would love to use pure butter all year round but cold house makes it unspreadable in the colder months. I use Norpak from Aldi usually but when I run out before an Aldi shop I like to buy Kerrygold which I actually prefer but buy Aldi to keep costs down. Will keep an eye out for a discount on the Yeo Valley one Smile.

Wellie89 · 13/10/2019 15:19

Tesco Butterpak or Lurpak. It's spreadable and doesn't have palm oil in.

MangoSplit · 13/10/2019 15:21

Thanks for this thread. I'll also be switching away from Flora from this week onwards so this is helpful.

cwg1 · 13/10/2019 15:36

Where is the lovely butter dish ^^ from, please?

PancakeAndKeith · 13/10/2019 16:38

I don’t recall where I got mine from but you can get similar from Dunelm. www.dunelm.com/product/vintage-glass-butter-dish-1000076967

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 13/10/2019 17:43

Ginfordinner probably better not to derail the thread with politics! (Although I'm in full agreement with your username, juniper berries count as one of your five a day Grin)

Pancake Mine is often out for a couple of weeks. Even in the middle of summer it never goes off.
I suppose butter has existed for a lot longer than refrigeration. It's one of those things that I can never understand why people keep in the fridge. On a different level I knew someone who kept dry pasta in the fridge "just to be safe"!

BlueJava · 13/10/2019 17:44

We love Lurpak spreadable! Even on crumpets it's pretty close to butter.
