I know, people can post what they want and I can just scroll past. But this has really annoyed me today.

I think it's safe to say people are very aware of the benefits of breast feeding, but sometimes it just isn't possible to do.

In my case, my daughter was born with a cleft lip and palate and I physically couldn't feed her. Then I read crap like this and it just reminds me of my failure to do something I really wanted to.

So, I guess my AIBU is does this kind of virtue signalling rubbish posted on Facebook actually have any benefit, or is it just there to make the poster feel good and people like me feel bad?

Fed is best. You fed your baby by the best means possible so roll your eyes and scroll on.

Migrainefun · 12/10/2019 20:14

"Their mummies milk" Hmm
The bit about being more intelligent than their peers is funny!

Migrainefun · 12/10/2019 20:15

"skin, smoother and more supple" Grin

Passthecherrycoke · 12/10/2019 20:15

Very very few people breastfeed their toddlers OP. Don’t take it personally

It's bollocks! Your child is fed and loved, that is the best any child can get
I'd like to see the clinical evidence for those claims and suspect they are seriously over-egged

Butchyrestingface · 12/10/2019 20:18

Could you not just create your own compilation for the breastfed teenager and post it to FB? Complete with totally unproven facts.

june2007 · 12/10/2019 20:18

You may not be able to feed her but you might have been able to express. I don't see why this sort of thing offends people. I mean it,s not rocket science to say the best milk for a human is human milk. If you cant then your child will thrive on formula. Whats the issue.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 12/10/2019 20:19

I forgot to add, it was accompanied with a fist pump emoji which somehow made it even more annoying Grin

I think it's absolutely hilarious

How affected and odd would someone have to me to actually produce that kind of shite

Really pity them

I am all for breastfeeding. But no way do I want to go into toddlerhood. Purely because I’m selfish and it’s not for me!

TidyDancer · 12/10/2019 20:21

I know someone who posts this type of bollocks. Her DD also has an array of breastfeeding themed t shirts including a 'boobed to sleep and loving it' one which is so cringey it makes me heave.

She's behaving like she's the first woman ever to breastfeed a child.

Fed is best and that's the end of the story.

user1493413286 · 12/10/2019 20:23

I’d love to know where the research is supporting all those “facts”; funnily enough I couldn’t even find it on their website.
“Breastfed toddlers are easier to travel with” hmm only if their mum is with them; what if (shock horror) their dad takes them away for a night

Quaffy · 12/10/2019 20:23

You may not be able to feed her but you might have been able to express

Yeah really easy to express all the way to toddlerhood.

YANBU OP. I understand midwives etc giving the advice on breastfeeding benefits so that people know and can make an informed choice as to whether to try and BF but that kind of unsubstantiated crap is just fucking smug and insensitive.

Whatsername7 · 12/10/2019 20:23

After I had lactation failure with dd1, this post would have really upset me. However, I bf dd2 and I would feel much more confident in rolling my eyes and ignoring now. I have two beautiful dd's. One ff and one bf. The ff one (who had a much colostrum as my shit boobs could make before doctors intervened and insisted on formula before she starved) is on the G&T register, musically gifted, beautiful.singing voice. Very shiny hair too. Grin She is healthy, rarely has a day off sick, she is brilliant in every way. The bf dd had illness after illness, even whilst bf, and ended up in hospital battling sepsis. She is also brilliant, but distinctly more average than dd1. If I were you, I'd put crying laughing emoji underneath the post and ignore. Flowers

@Butchyrestingface 🤣😭

Breastfed teenager:

No friends ✅
Social services involvement ✅
No teeth ✅

That's a really shit post, do you give lessons in how to make a mother feel even more guilty.
Butchyrestingface great idea.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 12/10/2019 20:23

I did my best to. It's actually incredibly difficult to exclusively pump enough milk to sustain a baby.

What a load of bollocks! Breastfeeding helps with Independence?!

PegasusReturns · 12/10/2019 20:24

It's bollocks! Your child is fed and loved, that is the best any child can get

Except it's not. Breastfeeding your baby is objectively better than formula.

MarthasGinYard · 12/10/2019 20:25

'Mummiesnummies'

Ugh sick bucket.com

AllStarBySmashMouth · 12/10/2019 20:26

Has your child died of starvation? No? Then you are doing just fine. Fed is best.
