No more Flora for me, they’ve just announced they’re having nothing to do with the hate site mumsnet. mobile.twitter.com/StopFundingHate/status/1182647264046669824

So that’s, what £2 a tub? Times that by 52, over 20 years shall we say? Then times that by number of women who now won’t touch it with a barge pole + anyone else who is Vegan, = shoppers who are now thinking ‘it’s got what in it?’ - the odd blue haired ninny who rushes out to buy it l/nags mummy to buy it = a loss and someone gets the sack for being a twit.

WeirdCatLady · 14/10/2019 18:22

Just want to say that not all blue haired young people are rushing out for flora. I’ve got one at home and she is fully behind our new household stance on butter.

Wouldn’t want to tar the entire blue haired (tiny minority) populace with the same brush you know...Wink

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 18:29

Apologies for lazy shorthand! You know the ones I mean!

334bu · 14/10/2019 18:37

I have been reading the FWR board for a while now but have never subscribed. I did so last night to show solidarity with a platform determined to uphold women's right to discuss any and all subjects which impact women's lives. Thank you.

Lifeof333s · 14/10/2019 18:39

Doubt it. There are those who buy spreads and those who buy butter. A spread is a spread ie not butter. Many don’t want butter and couldn’t give a shit what is in it as long as it spreads. The whole population is not on MN and many on MN frankly won’t give a shiny shit either way. There will be some who applaud their stance. Doubt it will make even a ripple as regards profits.

WeirdCatLady · 14/10/2019 18:41

Sorry PhD, I was only trying to inject some humour. No offence taken in any way. I was only telling her this afternoon about some of the Twitter comments about blue haired teens Grin

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 18:41

Poor kid! I hope she isn’t getting side glances with the blue hair!

WeirdCatLady · 14/10/2019 18:43

Hehehe she wouldn’t care anyway - she gets that from me Smile

She is, however, disappointed that I couldn’t find a Star Wars butter dish Grin

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 14/10/2019 18:45

No, I think you're right. I'm going to write to the PR industry now and tell them they've got it wrong and it is fine to tell your target market they should DIAF.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 18:46

Profits - reputation is a better guide here though.

Lifeof333s · 14/10/2019 18:48

Well we’ll all just have to wait with baited breath to see the company tumble. 🙄

nauticant · 14/10/2019 18:50

Well, whether Upfield's profits go up or down I don't much care. What I want to see is for the different aspects of the gender identity ideology to be put before the public and we can take it from there. Something tells me puberty blockers being given to children and "female penises" won't go down as well with the public as they do on Twitter.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 14/10/2019 18:54

Well the Sun are still in business, as are nestle. But I doubt their shareholders were massively happy about their PR disasters.

Lifeof333s · 14/10/2019 18:55

Most of the public won’t give a shit as long as the trans community aren’t treated with prejudice. Those with a trans child will weigh up all the info and do the best for their own individual child.

Frequency · 14/10/2019 18:55

I can't join the boycott as I don't buy margarine or 'butter spreads' anyway. I do have a a genuine question about Flora Buttery and I Can't Believe it's Not Butter etc...

What is the point of it? If you wanted something that tasted exactly like butter why wouldn't you buy actual butter i.e the only thing that tastes exactly like butter.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 14/10/2019 18:56

See, I wish the OP had done this thread with a poll.
Would be really interesting to see the results! Smile

SesameOil · 14/10/2019 19:16

Most of the public won’t give a shit as long as the trans community aren’t treated with prejudice.

Actually, quite a lot of the general public won't give a shit even if they are. If you have a look at more widely used sites such as twitter, the ones that the handmaidens glibly accept Upfield participating in whilst hypocritically supporting this action, there are some incredibly prejudiced comments about trans people there. I mean, obviously you won't care because policing a site used primarily by women is more important, but it's very common.

Lifeof333s · 14/10/2019 19:27

I don’t use Twitter, my FB and Insta feed are transphobia free. The only other discussion board I go on is MN, interestingly it’s the only place I’ve seen transphobia and bullying on this subject. As such I applaud Flora.

SesameOil · 14/10/2019 19:36

You have essentially just admitted that you applaud this because you're ignorant. Having an understanding of what happens on the platforms where Upfield do choose to participate and contribute to advertising revenue is absolutely crucial to fully comprehending the matter: you simply will not get it otherwise. It's perfectly possible to buy into the pro-trans ideology whilst also understanding the hypocrisy at play here.

Rocktheboot · 14/10/2019 19:41

you applaud Flora, for;

  1. objecting to women having options on issues that impact them

  2. using palm oil in their products, which is destroying rainforest and quickening extinction of species

  3. operating in a country where homosexuality is PUNISHABLE BY DEATH

Because....they at least virtue signal about some non-existant bigotry/hatred. Yes I can see how that's a totally logical POV to arrive at.

you have to be pretty commited to your hatred of women, to arrive there tbh

Lifeof333s · 14/10/2019 19:41

I beg your pardon, don’t call me ignorant. I applaud it because I see transphobia and bullying on the subject on here. I am glad they have responded to it and don’t wish to fund advertising campaigns on here.

Lifeof333s · 14/10/2019 19:42

Don’t accuse me of hating women either.

Ignorant, woman hater- and the bullying goes on.Hmm

Juells · 14/10/2019 19:42

The Independent have a piece on the subject as well. Definitely on the 'mumsnet is transphobic, everyone know that' side.

I wondered if the picture editor was a secret terf and trying to sabotage the article, though Grin

Rocktheboot · 14/10/2019 19:43

@WotchaTalkinBoutWillis

oh yes, a poll would have been great

Rocktheboot · 14/10/2019 19:44

are we supposed to pretend we can't see the Adams apple and giant man hands??
