No more Flora for me, they’ve just announced they’re having nothing to do with the hate site mumsnet. mobile.twitter.com/StopFundingHate/status/1182647264046669824

Flora is granny margarine. Can’t boycott it because I don’t buy it

FeckOffGraham · 13/10/2019 21:05

I am in the Home Counties and am a mum in a medium - high earning household. They definitely sell Flora in Waitrose here... or maybe it isn't in Waitrose, but, whatever, you can definitely procure Flora here.

I buy it occasionally, because it's vegan, but it tastes so gross and now I am boycotting anyway, I am realising how disgusting it is. Why was I buying it? I actually just gagged when I thought too much about it.

Juells · 13/10/2019 21:08

Several posters have pointed out that it's 'vegan' but says something like 'may contain milk solids'. It identifies as vegan, though.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 13/10/2019 21:11

I live in the south of england...in an earning household like feckoff

I used to buy stork...didn’t know it had palm oil in it!

Won’t be anymore

FeckOffGraham · 13/10/2019 21:12

@juells

Most vegans disregard those 'may contain milk / eggs', as I think it just means that it is produced in a way that they cannot guarantee dairy free. Even if it's in a factory where they use or produce dairy products, as there could be cross contamination. I think the warnings are there for someone with a very serious allergy. Most vegans are not that strict about the 'may contains'. IME anyway.

Hope that makes sense.

FeckOffGraham · 13/10/2019 21:14

veganfooduk.co.uk/may-contain-milk/

They explain it a lot better than I did^^!

5zeds · 13/10/2019 21:22

Not middle class and not in London but not buying it.

Perhaps we should all name change? 5zedsNOFLORA has a certain something about it.

newnameagainagain · 13/10/2019 21:22

Well I used stork blocks in all my baking as it is dairy free and works well, I'd buy quite a lot.

Not any more.

FeckOffGraham · 13/10/2019 21:23

I'm seriously considering "FeckOffFlora" as a new username.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 13/10/2019 21:35

So try Pure then, that works in baking too.

ImGoingToBangYourHeadsTogether · 13/10/2019 21:46

It might even be worth buying a couple just so I can then stop and declare boycott. Smile
Until someone can tell me why saying that 'woman is adult human female' is hate speech, but men winning awards meant for women is fine, and sex offenders trying to get access to women's spaces is fine they can sod off. Mumsnet is merely telling the truth in a world increasingly built on lies.

nolongersurprised · 13/10/2019 22:01

Really don’t think a load of London based middle class mums are Flora’s target market.

If this is what Flora thought mumsnet was made up of, they’ve spectacularly fucked up, haven’t they?

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 13/10/2019 22:31

12 million of us. All trying to get the last organic turkey in the Putney branch Grin

PickAChew · 13/10/2019 23:46

I had lovely results with pure when I spent a couple of years dairy free before lactofree was launched. Actually needed to add a little water and more icing sugar to buttercream to stop it from being sloppy but sponges were really light and pastry was crisp.

This was about 15 years ago, mind!

Seahorseshoe · 13/10/2019 23:50

Mumsnet isn't a hate site. We can do better than Flora surely?

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 13/10/2019 23:59

Mumsnet isn't a hate site

No, it's not.
A certain area has a certain undercurrent though.
Yes to self ID concerns, valid, yes to free speech and discussion, valid..... all should be allowed.
It's more than that though. It's hard to explain. You need to have your "peak trans" moment (but replace peak trans with a peak other word) otherwise you won't see it.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 14/10/2019 00:00

It's hard to explain that should read not It'sd to explain

PencilsInSpace · 14/10/2019 00:03

If MNers are not the target market for flora why did they target their marketing at us? Confused

There have been two product test threads and MN endorsed products.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 14/10/2019 00:20

I'm assuming they wanted to target their marketing at MN because they originally wanted to reach what they thought was their demographic? Which it is. As adults buying food.
Then they were made aware of the politics and decided their values of being inclusive didn't fit which is up to them.

PaulRedford · 14/10/2019 00:29

Reckon Flora sales figures for this week will be heading South.

Datun · 14/10/2019 00:34

I still can't get over a margarine company blindly going out of their way to part company with their customer base via twitter.

NotBadConsidering · 14/10/2019 01:07

In what way are values of being inclusive incompatible with Mumsnet?

ErrolTheDragon · 14/10/2019 01:35

In what way are values of being inclusive incompatible with Mumsnet?

Well, Mumsnet isn't inclusive of people who can't manage to post within talk guidelines, I suppose.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 14/10/2019 01:39

Ohh. come onnnn lol. We're on this thread why?!
Dafuq lol
I can't even.
