No more Flora for me, they’ve just announced they’re having nothing to do with the hate site mumsnet. mobile.twitter.com/StopFundingHate/status/1182647264046669824

NOBODY declaring that they have seen transphobic comments on MN can provide actual examples

To be fair when i have reported transphobic comments they have been deleted, so I certainly couldn’t prove it.....ive seen a fair few from posters ive never heard of before

But as has been discussed views on what is transphobic differ

NotBadConsidering · 13/10/2019 13:39

Are you really trying to claim that Upfields, a subsidiary of KKR one of the biggest companies in the world, don’t utilise advertising on the two biggest social media platforms?

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/10/2019 13:40

Great statement @JustineMumsnet. Thank you and MNHQ

NotBadConsidering · 13/10/2019 13:40

Rufus,

It would be good to see evidence of MN allowing transphobia to stand though, apparently there’s loads of it Hmm

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 13/10/2019 13:44

notbad

Yeah I’d agree with that...i dont think they do let it stand

And surely if its still there it would suggest that no one has reported it

But a poster did link to a post they felt was transphobic (a fair few threads ago!) when i went back and looked i could certainly see why MNHQ Had ket it stand

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 13/10/2019 13:44

Oh my god...had let it stand obvs

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 13/10/2019 13:46

And surely if its still there it would suggest that no one has reported it

OR that it was reported, but it didn't break the rules so didn't need deleting.

^ something several pp have a very hard time comprehending.

Datun · 13/10/2019 13:51

Except upfield / flora don't advertise on twitter and France but they do / did with mumsnet

Their entire Twitter feed is one long advert.

MagneticSingularity · 13/10/2019 13:51

Except upfield / flora don't advertise on twitter or FB

Well, that’s patently untrue isn’t it? You can’t be that obtuse. The announcement that they were disassociating from mumsnet came from their twitter account. I can’t be arsed to look but I’m going to go right ahead and say they have a similar account on Facebook b3cause of course they do.

Aridane · 13/10/2019 13:53

@Whatthingsexactly

@Lifeof333s

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoes

I agree - thank you for posting

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 13/10/2019 13:53

R that it was reported, but it didn't break the rules so didn't need deleting

Yep

Forgot that one

Aridane · 13/10/2019 13:54

Twitter is a method of communication most companies use - the former relationship with mum set was very different (specific advertising campaigns and prod t trials)

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 13/10/2019 13:55

I can’t be arsed to look but I’m going to go right ahead and say they have a similar account on Facebook because of course they do.

www.facebook.com/FloraFamily/

There is a whole lot of Flora Family going on.
And a distinct lack of pink and blue.

Not to mention no answers to people directly questioning them on this decision.

Quaffy · 13/10/2019 13:56

Although as to posts remaining as not breaking the rules, I think the argument is that the rules aren’t stringent enough so transphobia is being allowed to remain when proper rules ought to be in place to prohibit it.

I don’t use FWR regularly enough to know if that’s the case or not, and no one has been able to point to a post which should have been deleted but hasn’t been. I’m open minded about it if people can provide any evidence. I’ve seen it requested a few times on this thread.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 13/10/2019 13:59

so transphobia is being allowed to remain

When transphobia can be as basic as saying that you think it is unfair that a male person is competing in female sports (incl contact sports); or that you think males cannot become female; or a lesbian should not be forced to accept penises in her sexual activity - the bar is pretty low.

( ^ All things that have been called transphobic)

NotBadConsidering · 13/10/2019 13:59

Ah ok:

Platform that hosts paedophilia = ok, because it’s a “method of communication” which is different to advertising how?

Platform where women can freely discuss their rights == not ok, because it involves actually trying margarine.

Got it. Confused Hmm

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 13/10/2019 14:01

I think whether or not they advertise on FB is neither here nor there.
They do advertise by way of having a social media platform on there, but it's a different kind of advertising, isn't it?
It's not really comparable to if they were putting MN's name out there on each of their tubs of margarine for example - utilising social media and having a FB page to promote your brand is slightly different.
FB doesn't as far as I know have whole sections dedicated to thread after thread of trans posts like on here, and talk about "peak trans" etc.
(Happy to be corrected though)
When I've seen transphobic content on there it's been in the form of comments under news articles etc.

Quaffy · 13/10/2019 14:01

buzzshitbag

Totally agree - I made the same point upthread. I was trying to paraphrase what I think the argument being raised by some is.

pikapikachu · 13/10/2019 14:02

Except upfield / flora don't advertise on twitter or FB
@Flora is their Twitter handle. There's lots of advertising- promotion of people's cooking using Flora, recipes etc

NotBadConsidering · 13/10/2019 14:04

What’s wrong with having thread after thread of trans posts? Surely that makes it easier to find examples of transphobia doesn’t it?

Can we post about trans issues if there’s no transphobia, or do you not want people to post about trans issues at all?

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 13/10/2019 14:04

Twitter is a method of communication most companies use - the former relationship with mum set was very different (specific advertising campaigns and prod t trials)

Just seen this, what you just said and cross posted - except you said it in a more succinct and less waffly way lol

emilybrontescorsett · 13/10/2019 14:06

Absolutely Peter which other sites has this brand withdrawn from?
Or is it just this one because it's fine if a man says something but hell forbid that a site dominated by women voice an opinion.
And yes I see far worse on other media platforms but again that's ok because it's the menz.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 13/10/2019 14:13

Flora don't use Twitter and FB for advertising??? 😂😂😂

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 13/10/2019 14:13

I note not one single poster accusing Mumsnet of allowing 'transphobia and bullying' has seen fit to condemn Helen Islan's (aka Mimmymum's) transphobic bullying of Miranda Yardly, the transsexual she dragged to court on a laughably flimsy basis because he (again he prefers to be correctly SEXED) disagrees with her.

Actual, real life transphobia. Not 'boo hoo how dare you notice human beings can't change sex' but actual harassment of a transsexual, and not a single word of condemnation.

Well I have no problem calling Helen Islan a transphobic bigot, so why can't those scolding others for their 'tone' manage it?

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 13/10/2019 14:15

There have been transphobic comments on MN. I know this because I have reported transphobia on here in the past, MN have replied and it has been deleted.

If you are claiming that MN allow transphobic posts to stand then prove it and show us examples. Stop just repeating 'transphobia' and 'bullying' over and over without any backup, it's incredibly tiresome.
