No more Flora for me, they’ve just announced they’re having nothing to do with the hate site mumsnet. mobile.twitter.com/StopFundingHate/status/1182647264046669824

Do you have examples? Posters here defend women’s rights in the name of feminism. Who’d have thought it?

Hang on...Are YOU Joss...? Wink

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 13/10/2019 12:48

FWR has long been abandoned to GC regulars who are deeply intolerant of dissenting viewpoints.

OMG Grin This reads as if HQ don't have a button which would just shut the whole board down in a second.

They are not being forced at gunpoint to keep FWR (or any of it) open. If I may pun on the topic at hand, MNHQ know which side their membership bread is buttered. FWR brings millions of people to MN.

Lifeof333s · 13/10/2019 12:50

They may well acknowledge it exists but not that it is a problem. It’s subtle and clevereg I’ve seen threads on school bullying with posters sneaking in and trying to bring up and turn the focus to trans issues.....

Those with an axe to grind need to be in their own area and stay there carefully moderated.

zebrasdontwearbras · 13/10/2019 12:52

She added: 'Mumsnet has turned down hundreds of thousands of pounds of advertising over the years from companies which we feel don't make parents' lives easier, so we're well used to putting purpose before profit.

You know, before I read this statement yesterday, I actually had no idea of this. I really do applaud Justine for this principled stance. Thanks Justine, I kniw you must be under phenomenal pressure from the TRAs to shut us down, so I thank you (and your backbone Grin ) Thanks

NotBadConsidering · 13/10/2019 12:52

Women! Stay in your place! Know your limits! You and Joss would get on, that’s for sure.

Datun · 13/10/2019 12:56

Prejudice, intolerance, disrespect.

Honestly, you couldn't make it up 🤣

zebrasdontwearbras · 13/10/2019 12:58

FWR is the third most visited board here, apparently. I was pleasantly surprised it was so high up in the rankings. Many a mumsnetter has said "I came to MN for the baby advice and stayed for FWR" - the FWR board is a unique online space for women.

That’s really sinister. Worthy of a theocratic illiberal regime
We live in a liberal democracy, and that means people may hear/see a POV they find challenging. Which is a good thing

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 13/10/2019 12:59

You know full well exactly what the poster is referring to when saying about bullying, not listening to other viewpoints and instead bullying and belittling and twisting.
I'm not surprised you don't (won't?) see it though. Colour me shocked.
This, THIS, is exactly why people have left you all to it on there, and why no, we're not going to "give examples" because you prove, every time there is just no fucking point in doing so.

GetbusywiththeFizzee · 13/10/2019 13:01

Useful advice but misdirected you need to pass that message on to all the TRAs and MRAs that frequent this board; derailing threads, goading and generally making a thorough nuisance of themselves.
A simple enough job to keep you busy for a while, plenty of them around.

Datun · 13/10/2019 13:05

Well at least we agree on something 😊

NotBadConsidering · 13/10/2019 13:06

Carefully moderated

How carefully? Should we be pre-moderated? Should we pass everything through you? Should we make the Monitors like Mimmymum and Joss official MNHQ team members?

Do I get a pass out of my designated area once a month if I’m good?

Motorheadmum · 13/10/2019 13:13

Well I haven't bought Flora or any of their other products for years but I will make sure I never buy any again.

Do They produce any of the supermarket own brand margarine's?

Datun · 13/10/2019 13:14

Those with an axe to grind need to be in their own area and stay there carefully moderated.

Lest they be disrespectful...

Despite statements like that being deserving of the utmost disrespect and incivility possible.

Aridane · 13/10/2019 13:19

I'm with those who finds the tone on mumsnet transphobic. It seems like a bit of an obsession - there are so many threads and they are 90% negative about trans people/rights. I'm hoping that this isn't reflective of the whole population on mumsnet and that there are others like me who are too scared by the negativity and strength of opinion to contribute

I agree with you, @Level75. However, generally speakimg, when a Trans thread is started on AIBU for a FWR poster ('this needs to reach a wider audience'), you will find the discussion in AIBU more reasonable, balanced and nuanced

SmileEachDay · 13/10/2019 13:20

Have any of the posters who say MN is a hotbed of transphobia answered my question yet?

Aridane · 13/10/2019 13:25

...transphobia (made up word anyway). I don't have a phobia about trans people

Dictionary definition of 'transphobia' is ,dislike of or prejudice against transsexual or transgender people (Oxford Disctionary)

or irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against transgender people (Merriam Webster)

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 13/10/2019 13:27

I've noticed that too, which I think is a good thing

pikapikachu · 13/10/2019 13:29

Their heads would explode if they saw the actual transphobia on Twitter, 4Chan and Reddit. I'm not talking about Gender Critical people who want to discuss gender issues - I mean those people who use intimidation and actual hateful language like wishing harm on another.

I have a child who I have to buy dairy free spread for. If Flora and Stork are no good, which brand should I look out for?

IsadoraQuagmire · 13/10/2019 13:30

NOBODY declaring that they have seen transphobic comments on MN can provide actual examples (except for someone up thread who apparently thinks it's transphobic to KNOW that human beings can't change sex) Grin

Michelleoftheresistance · 13/10/2019 13:31

'Not listening to other view points' = refusing to agree with anti woman view points. And continually and very naughtily coming back with more reasons and debate as to why they don't agree.

'deeply intolerant of dissenting viewpoints' = deeply intolerant of permitting hard won and needed women's rights and spaces to be appropriated by males.

This just boils down to 'women, shut up and do as you're told.'

I speak for a couple of millenia of womanhood when I say, with civility and respect, fuck that. There is nothing inclusive or kind or right or even morally just about the trampling of women's rights, children's rights, safeguarding.

NotBadConsidering · 13/10/2019 13:31

Really? I’ve seen the exact opposite. Whenever attention is brought to a wider audience it’s usual for most posters to a) be surprised such ideology exists and b) not remotely go along with it.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 13/10/2019 13:33

hotbed of transphobia

Hang on - I thought this was a Radicalisation Portal?
I'm not here for some wussy "hotbed". I want fullblown portal action!

SmileEachDay · 13/10/2019 13:35

Ach soz shitbag I’ll amend.

Ahem.

Has anyone who is convinced MN is a Portal for Radicalisation answered my question?

Aridane · 13/10/2019 13:36

I’m glad they’re fine with the transphobia, ageism, homophobia, racism, misogyny, porn etc on twitter and FB

Except upfield / flora don't advertise on twitter and France but they do / did with mumsnet
