Love travelling and always looking for recommendations. Where has been your favourite and least favourite holiday you have ever visited and why?
So far my favourite has been the Canadian Rockies - amazing scenery.
Least favourite has been Benidorm - got terrible food poisoning and was a bit too “Brits abroad”

OP posts:

Best-Iceland
Worst-Russia

BritWifeinUSA · 06/10/2019 16:03

I’ve enjoyed every holiday. Even the not-so-nice places were enjoyable with the right people. Life’s what you make it.

That said, I’m in no hurry to go back to Greece or Egypt. And I would go back to China tomorrow if I could (been 5 times already and still not had enough).

CareBear50 · 06/10/2019 16:05

Best - Krakow Poland, black forest Germany, new Zealand

Worst - sunny beach Bulgaria - a hot, Soviets/Brits abroad Blackpool. Awful!

GREATAUNT1 · 06/10/2019 16:05

Least favourite’s Turkey, it was vile! A young boy picked me up & swung me around, & the filthy little perve had something in his pocket Shock. It’s not like I was young either. I love a good old barter, but these people just didn’t accept no & got quite nasty. They were really rude to women on their own too. I could go on but I have to check the roast.

Favourite’s Costa Rica. I’ve travelled far & wide & this has to be the most beautiful place on earth.

KronksSpinachPuffs · 06/10/2019 16:07

Best - Croatia (plitvice lakes), Italy, Monaco
Worst - fuerteventura!

KronksSpinachPuffs · 06/10/2019 16:09

Oh and as above I didnt like Egypt especially Cairo!

IncognitaIgnorama · 06/10/2019 16:09

Worst: Japan - appalling racism and lots of atrocious attitudes to women (and seriously expensive as well)
Best: Northumberland - beautiful beaches, amazing sightseeing

Amanduh · 06/10/2019 16:10

Best: New Zealand, Marbella, Greece, Dorset. Actually went to a bloody great hen weekend in magaluf 😂
Worst: Wales, Paris, Hong Kong

rookiemere · 06/10/2019 16:11

Best- West coast Canada, Lake District, New Zealand, Tenerife ( although everyone else on here seems to hate it)
Worst- Wales ( would be lovely but has never stopped raining on numerous visits) , I feel my work colleague oversold Castle Douglas as a holiday destination by describing it as the Lake District of Scotland, Albufeira in Portugal and Sorrento town - tacky as hell but a good base for seeing sights.

flyingspaghettimonster · 06/10/2019 16:12

Best, anywhere in Greece.
Worst, West Virginia.

HotChocolateLover · 06/10/2019 16:13

Best - Iceland
Worst- Turkey (that was more the company than the place though)

JustMarriedBecca · 06/10/2019 16:13

Best : South Africa and Botswana, Canada, Scotland and Cornwall, Cape Cod

Worst - any kind of package resort, Cuba.

Like someone else said, it's got nothing to do with cost these days.

GREATAUNT1 · 06/10/2019 16:13

C0untDucku1a, 10-15k, where did you get that idea from? I DIY & don’t even come close to spending that amount.

Octonaught · 06/10/2019 16:21

Best: SriLanka, Thailand ( islands), New Zealand, American Midwest.

Worst:Bangkok ( polluted); Lanzarote, Venice packed and dirty.

Octonaught · 06/10/2019 16:30

I’m not surprised NY is getting so many marmite responses.
I used to go a lot in my 20s and loved the vibe, as I knew a lot of people there.
Returned about 15 years later just for pure tourism. Once I’d visited the usual places ( Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building etc). I was just struck by how dirty, overpriced and grumpy the people who work there are.
To be fair you could say this about London or Paris, but I’m definitely over NYC. I’ll probably go once more to introduce my DS to it, but after that never again.

MovinOnUp · 06/10/2019 16:31

I have only started going on holiday in the last four years since leaving the ex and have enjoyed each and every one, Even the worst one.

Best was Barcelona out of Dublin, Disneyland Paris, Prague, London, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Venice, London again, Cottage holiday in Harrogate, All-inclusive break in Torremolinos and lastly Paris.

The worst of them was probably Frankfurt, But it wasn't Frankfurt's fault. (It was Ryanair, Scotrail and a Viral infection's fault)

ivykaty44 · 06/10/2019 16:32

Very true. Trashing an entire destination because you stayed in a shit B&B or the weather was crap hmm.

Take a look on trip advisor for the same, they give 2 stars as it was a boring destination or rained - I feel sorry for the hotel or b&b

I ve loved so many places people have loved and hated

Malvinaa81 · 06/10/2019 16:36

Worst- Venezuela - awful place

Best Australia
Malaysia

ivykaty44 · 06/10/2019 16:38

Cuba is great for cycling, the reason is drivers can’t afford to crash & are therefore very careful. It’s very different as it’s communist and the food we found was rice & beans and beans and rice 🤣 not sure what people get in the resorts. Loved Santiago de Cuba. I wouldn’t return though as there are other places to visit and wouldn’t recommend as a luxury destination either

ArialAnna · 06/10/2019 16:53

Best: Japan, various American road trips in California, Utah and Texas (done on different holidays), South of France, and all the ski trips! (I love skiing).

Worst: Romania - a group of us stayed in a god awful cramped apartment in Bucharest with no internal doors, and most of the tourist sites were shut for the holidays. Service in restaurants was really miserable and surly too.

LaLemonLaVidaLoca · 06/10/2019 17:01

@MaidofKent78 off to Naples soon! Why did you hate it? Shock

Hoolihan · 06/10/2019 17:01

Best: Tanzania (inc Zanzibar); Ibiza.

Worst: not been on too many shockers but I'm a sun lover so Scotland and Wales didn't really float my boat for a summer holiday. Have also been to a few shite Brits abroad type places (Kavos, Magaluf, Benidorm) which are obvs ghastly but serve a purpose.

Pagwatch · 06/10/2019 17:04

Best : Sicily Borneo and Maldives
Worst : all inclusive on St Lucia. Lanzarote Crete

Sweetpea55 · 06/10/2019 17:16
