Love travelling and always looking for recommendations. Where has been your favourite and least favourite holiday you have ever visited and why?
So far my favourite has been the Canadian Rockies - amazing scenery.
Least favourite has been Benidorm - got terrible food poisoning and was a bit too “Brits abroad”

Best, too many to list. If pushed then Maldives

Worst, Barbados, neither of us got the ‘vibe’.

chuckeeee · 06/10/2019 12:38

Shocked at people saying New York was the worst. What is it people don't like? Obviously everyone likes different things but the worst place ever?

Mine are:

Best: Tennessee

Worst: Rhyl

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 06/10/2019 12:40

Best: Slovenia - beautiful, varied, friendly and chilled out.

Worst: centerparcs (any) - fake, crowded, overpriced, service station in a forest. Depressing.

@Icantthinkofanewname87
I would have agreed with you after my first visit to Delhi!
After returning umpteen times I now love it, huge sprawling metropolis that it is.
Love Old Delhi/Chandni Chowk for the markets and craziness, Lodhi Gardens for peace and Khan market to dip into posh shopping with the expats at the end of a stay. Plus the food of course!!!
My never to return to would be Tunisia, but maybe I should retry...!!

DazedandConcerned · 06/10/2019 12:42

Best - hands down Egypt (Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel). We spent four weeks out there and it was incredible.

Worst - MSC Mediterranean cruise with two nights in Rome. Never again.

chemenger · 06/10/2019 12:45

I don’t see the attraction of New York really, definitely far down my list of favourite cities in the US.

DaphneBucket · 06/10/2019 12:46

Best Mexico, just stunning

Worst Cromer Wink

madeyemoodysmum · 06/10/2019 12:47

Best. Florida for fun. Slovenia for everything Finland for craziness

Worst. Ireland. Awful place. Expensive dirty beaches. Worst wasps ever. Stuck in the 50s

SouthWestmom · 06/10/2019 12:49

Without knowing why it's difficult to tell if you would agree with opinions, op!

Best: Cattolica. Child friendly, beach, old town and new town. British demographic quite working class and friendly. No drunks, no groups of teenagers.

Worst: Barcelona. Hotel lovely and near the beach but miles from town. Hated the boring stretch of road everyone raves about. Couldn't find the cable car. Church booked up. Not a clue how the trans worked.

Mintjulia · 06/10/2019 12:50

All-inclusive in Dominican Republic was the worst. I couldn’t wait to come home.

The best was a week walking from Pisa to Sienna and staying in little family hotels along the way. The weather & company were perfect and it was bliss. Smile

vampirethriller · 06/10/2019 12:50

Best: Rome
Worst: West highlands of Scotland

DishingOutDone · 06/10/2019 12:51

NYC was my worst too but because we didn't plan properly. We had a week in Florida then flew to NYC having 3 days to sight see but it was torrential rain, the kids (13 and 15 at the time) hated every minute of it, didn't like having to walk, then we got on a tour bus and that was even worse. So basically after 3 days we'd missed quite a few major tourist sights and spent a fortune.

But to be fair, that was the only holiday I've ever had that went tits up.

Pistols69 · 06/10/2019 12:52

Best - New York (buzzing vibrant alive)

Worst - Cairo (shithole)

MaidofKent78 · 06/10/2019 12:53

@chuckeeee NYC was the worst of the places I have been to to date. Granted it was in the middle of a heatwave which may have affected my experience, but I found it claustrophobic and relentlessly noisy.

DishingOutDone · 06/10/2019 12:55

@MaidofKent78 - when I went it was freezing. I think its quite an unforgiving place if the weather is too hot or too cold, particularly as you need to walk everywhere due to traffic etc.

Sparrowlegs248 · 06/10/2019 12:55

Best - Mandelieu la Napoule, South of France stones throw from Cannes. Beautiful with excellent train line along the coast .

Worst - Gran Canaria. Hideously boring bland resort of the edge of a rock. Literally nothing to do, nowhere to walk.

timeforawine · 06/10/2019 12:56

Best Seychelles
Worse Cleethorpes as a teenager, put me off camping for life

timeforawine · 06/10/2019 12:58

Best Seychelles, New Zealand, Hawaii, west coast USA drive, Canadian Rockies, La Reunion, Greneda, St Lucia, Mauritius
Worse Cleethorpes as a teenager, put me off camping for life and i wasn't fussed by Paphos or LA

Bohemienne · 06/10/2019 12:59

Best: Dordogne in France and Bodensee in Germany, staying in self-catered accommodation and just pottering about and sight-seeing. Both touristy areas but not at all 'Brits abroad', just charming, beautiful, interesting and relaxed.

Worst: A dying resort in Tenerife, absolutely depressing (and unusually cold weather so couldn't even swim in the pool).

KimchiLaLa · 06/10/2019 13:01

Worst - oman (I was pregnant, and there isn't much to do there except swim in the wadi's and drink by the pool). I was so bored. To the extent I asked DP if we could go to dubai just so I had a few more restaurants to visit.

Best - dubai, New York, Amalfi coast

Holidays are made by who you're with though.

Swisskit · 06/10/2019 13:07

Best Goa
Worst Scotland

PandaTurtle · 06/10/2019 13:08

Best would be Australia with so much wildlife (pademelon, possum, bitong, tree kangaroos, wallabies, whales, dolphins, kangaroos all seen in wild and breakfast with koalas plus Great Barrier Reef and Daintree rainforest with crocodiles and quick look at Sydney/Blue Mountains). Everyone was also incredibly friendly and random people would come up to me telling me welcome to Australia. Costa Rica and Cape Town were also great.

Worst would be a week's stay in Nice where Easyjet lost my luggage for 47 hours so no need for compensation but no things for 2 days then I had food poisoning for 3 days. Room was tiny and cramped. Not really any other bad ones than that one. Cuba would be my next least favourite.

redappleandaquamarinebow1987 · 06/10/2019 13:13

Best: Disney World in Orlando, Tokyo, Dubrovnik, and Budapest (amazing history in both Dubrovnik and Budapest. Loved all the kawaii stuff in japan and always have an amazing time in Disney World)

Worst: Paris (terrible customer service. The people were arrogant and rude)

Wizzbangpop · 06/10/2019 13:14

Best Zambia, Cuba, Isles of Scilly ( Tresco)

Worst Butlins or Blackpool

PandaTurtle · 06/10/2019 13:15

We also had some terrible visits to Disneyland Paris with 2 hour queues for rides etc, we can just daytrip it as MIL is from Paris but last time we went kids asked never to go again. It is better if stay close by can get in early and stay late for fireworks and avoid school holidays.
