To not pay for this plane ticket

GotOffThePlane · 03/10/2019 23:44

I bought two plane tickets with KLM. The price for both was pending all day yesterday and today. But now, only half the amount has been taken out my account.

I’ve received both tickets and numbers etc by email and they still show up on the app.

My partner says I should phone KLM incase we can’t both board the flight when the time comes. I say, what if it’s a mistake on their part and just alerts them to take the rest of the money. Money is tight at the moment.

Has anyone experienced this before? Should I call them?

It will come out. Are you having to travel? If money is so tight?

NaomiFromMilkShake · 03/10/2019 23:46

Do you steal on a regular basis ??

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 03/10/2019 23:47

Yes you should pay the proper price for the tickets you are buying. Otherwise it is essentially theft.

HiJenny35 · 03/10/2019 23:50

Oh theft, please, is definitely not tell them if it wasn't a flight, I think they are nearly certainly going to find out and then they could have resold the tickets or not let you on so I'd tell them.

Whyhaveidonethis · 03/10/2019 23:51

They cocked up. You have the tickets. I'd not call them it's not stealing. You aren't intentionally depriving them of the money. They re depriving themselves.

100% doesn't fit the definition. The definition of stealing is "taking the property of mother with the intention of permanently depriving of it" they gave it to you. You intended to pay for 2, nd still will if asked. But l they gave you two.

Whyhaveidonethis · 03/10/2019 23:52

Another not mother

GotOffThePlane · 04/10/2019 00:03

I don’t particularly feel bad about the ‘essentially theft’ part. It’s not really though is it, I agree with Whyhaveidonethis. Plus they’re a huge company and these aren’t very expensive tickets

If it wasn’t an airline and was a small business or something I’d ring up and make sure it was paid

It seems like people are as split as me and DP

WhatTiggersDoBest · 04/10/2019 00:05

I don't suppose they've got a 2 for 1 offer on at the moment or something, and it was applied in a last-minute way? Airlines do weird stuff like that sometimes.

araiwa · 04/10/2019 00:06

You really want to risk arriving at the airport and being told you cant fly?

Id be giving them a call

3dogs2cats · 04/10/2019 00:10

We had a tickets booked, but didn’t notice one of the names hadn’t fully printed. The airline made us pay full price for another ticket. They don’t forgive our mistakes and therefore, I would just claim ignorance.

getoutofthatgarden202 · 04/10/2019 00:12

Oh gawd everyone calm down - it's fine - do you have both tickets and booking ref etc?? If so then nothing will happen !!

Their mistake not yours !!

hiddenworlds · 04/10/2019 00:18

BA charge each ticket as a separate transaction on the credit card although it shows as 1 price on the invoice- do KLM? if so it will come through

AJ1425 · 04/10/2019 00:19

They have six months after the pending payment to collect the funds. It will go out your account, whether you have the money there or not. So I would call them now and chase it up rather than thinking you're quids in and spending the money and then finding yourself very overdrawn a few weeks or months down the line.

GotOffThePlane · 04/10/2019 00:21

That’s a good point, I didn’t realise they could just randomly take it at any point? I’ve never known anything like that before (new traveller)

If that’s something that’s possibly going to happen I’d rather they just took it now

OP posts:
AJ1425 · 04/10/2019 00:31

It's not possibly going to happen, it will happen..you've booked tickets and you need to pay for them. It's also nothing to do with travelling it's how the card systems work, pending payments drop off after a week if not completed but retailers have the right to collect up to 6 months. It not great really. If you aren't happy or able to account for this extra money then you need to get onto the company.

VanGoghsDog · 04/10/2019 00:32

Money might be tight but if you couldn't afford it you should not have bought it in the first place.

All retailers can take the money months after the transaction.

GotOffThePlane · 04/10/2019 00:47

I can afford the ticket, I’ve left the money in my account for it. But it would’ve relieved some financial stress to have been able to keep it. Surely that’s a natural reaction Blush

Its a bit rubbish isn’t it, that they’ve got such a long time frame to take it. I bet a lot of people aren’t on top of their finances and it could really surprise them thinking it had been taken months ago. All my payments have always came out straight away so I’ve never known it happen before

Thank you for the information!

Lucked · 04/10/2019 00:50

I wouldn’t even have checked my account so I wouldn’t have realised for a long time if at all.

I would assume they will take the full amount in time.

LadyAllegraImelda · 04/10/2019 00:51

As tempting as it is, it will probably cause you more worry than it's worth between now and when you fly, for piece of mind only I'd call them.

kateandme · 04/10/2019 01:01

AJ1425 that is scary! and yes ive had this happen with online grocery order before.i didnt notice but months later i got a call saying they hadnt completed a transaction and that they were doing it now.i was stunned and it felt awful.

LovePoppy · 04/10/2019 01:03

I’d give it a day or two then call

kateandme · 04/10/2019 01:06

GotOffThePlane of course its a natural reaction.especially around money.especially when thing are tight.feeling like you might get a reprieve from that burden can feel really nice.

Derbee · 04/10/2019 01:06

They will take the correct amount for the 2 tickets. It may well be at a time that you’re not expecting it (so go overdrawn) or don’t have the money and the payment will be declined etc.

You may as well sort it now whilst you’ve got the money available. You will pay for both tickets, so you may as well do it now on your terms

PurpleDaisies · 04/10/2019 01:10

I’d be very surprised if the money first automatically leave your account. Unless you’re not too bothered about both of you getting on the flight, I’d check that the payment has been processed correctly.

ilovesooty · 04/10/2019 01:16

Facebook message them or tweet them, or email if you can. You'll lose the will to live if you phone them.
