To not pay for this plane ticket

GotOffThePlane · 03/10/2019 23:44

I bought two plane tickets with KLM. The price for both was pending all day yesterday and today. But now, only half the amount has been taken out my account.

I’ve received both tickets and numbers etc by email and they still show up on the app.

My partner says I should phone KLM incase we can’t both board the flight when the time comes. I say, what if it’s a mistake on their part and just alerts them to take the rest of the money. Money is tight at the moment.

Has anyone experienced this before? Should I call them?

Id try the risk because every penny saved is a bonus whilst it wasn't your fault but I'd be cautious as you could get to the gate an they say only 1 ticket is valid ... I can't see it though an their a good airline to travel with!! Risk it why not. If they say anything just say you wasn't sure yourself so pay up their and then x

SleepWarrior · 04/10/2019 01:48

I wonder what would happen if you went to the extreme length of closing down your account to prevent them taking it at a later date! Grin Not suggesting that btw, it's just the sort of thing I wonder about.

MidniteScribbler · 04/10/2019 02:58

Plus they’re a huge company and these aren’t very expensive tickets

Fuck sakes, what a wonderful attitude to have.

LucieFurr · 04/10/2019 04:37

The right thing to do is to call them and get it sorted. And to those people saying it's not theft, of course it is.
Personally, I wouldn't call then and would just hope the money wasn't debited from my account. It's not the right thing to do, but I'd do it anyway

JoObrien7 · 04/10/2019 05:13

@GotOffThePlane

I wouldn't risk it because they might bar you from their airline if they discover it later on.

I ordered some replacement glass doors for my oven and two sets turned up so I said nothing and kept them because it was the companies fault not mine. However this is different and I wouldn't want you to risk having your flight cancelled.

Marnie76 · 04/10/2019 06:22

If a business took more money from someone’s account (who didn’t notice) and when the business realised didn’t inform the customer, what would your opinion be of them?
Just because it’s a big company doesn’t make it ok.

Shoxfordian · 04/10/2019 07:05

If you can't afford it then you shouldn't have bought 2 tickets. I would expect the remainder will be taken today or Monday anyway. Nice attitude you have though

Thelistwizard · 04/10/2019 07:15

I would call them but I’m a nervous traveler and this would have me on edge
However I’m scratching my head that your justification in not paying is that you are skint. If that was the case why book them in the first case.

AmIThough · 04/10/2019 07:19

Of course you should call them and of course it would be theft.

The same as if the bank accidentally give you £100 you have to report it...

Thomas Cook were a big company too, OP.

Tonnerre · 04/10/2019 07:33

Plus they’re a huge company and these aren’t very expensive tickets

Thomas Cook was a huge company, it didn't make them invulnerable.

Quartz2208 · 04/10/2019 07:34

I had this booked tickets with Lufthansa. Amount was pending for a week and then disappeared.

So I thought I’ll sort it.
Rang The credit card, no help at all told me the transaction had failed and rebook. But it hadn’t failed!
Rang the airline they basically said but we have been paid and you have the tickets why are you stressing.

5 days later it appeared back! But had changed rather than one it was a whole lot.
The money just needs reallocating by your bank/credit card it will reappear

EleanorReally · 04/10/2019 07:48

i am sure the money will come out, similar thing happened to me, i was quite worried but the money did come out eventually

OneThreadOnly0101 · 04/10/2019 07:52

They will take the money. Klm often break down your transaction and each ticket and any extras (seats, luggage) can be charged separately.

LtJudyHopps · 04/10/2019 08:02

I bought some stuff in duty free at Stansted at the end of May. They didn’t take the money until the end of August! Very annoying but luckily I’d noticed it hadn’t gone out. They will realise and take the rest if they haven’t already started the transaction.

purpleolive · 04/10/2019 08:02

Can you log in a pre book your seats to see if both there?

getoutofthatgarden202 · 04/10/2019 08:09

WTF is wrong with everyone - such worriers!

The OP said she can afford it - the money is in her account so if it gets taken later thats fine!

If the mistake was the other way and she had overpaid then they wouldn't phone her up to apologise and refund her - they would wait until the customer notified them (if they didn't realise then nothing would happen!!)

She has the ticket - I would play dumb and if they realise then just pay the money at that time!

It is however likely the money will just be charged today or soon enough though!

I bought 2 flights recently and they did both showed up as separate transactions on my statement!

But it is not your job as a customer to go around chasing them up when you've been undercharged

BrieAndChilli · 04/10/2019 08:15
  • don’t particularly feel bad about the ‘essentially theft’ part. It’s not really though is it, I agree with Whyhaveidonethis. Plus they’re a huge company and these aren’t very expensive tickets

If it wasn’t an airline and was a small business or something I’d ring up and make sure it was paid*

Well it’s no wonder companies like monarch and Thomas cook go under when people think like this!! If they took double the money from you by mistake you would be the first to get in to them for a refund.

Quartz2208 · 04/10/2019 08:22

It’s not the airline though that don’t have the money though it’s the bank or credit card that for now hasn’t allocated it correctly. At some point it will

Hahaha88 · 04/10/2019 08:23
  1. it's 6 years and a day. Not 6 months (I work in the industry)
  2. to the pp who asked your bank will chase you for it, it's a debt.
  3. flight prices go up, it won't be a case of just paying the amount not debited at boarding, it will be more, if they even have a seat left.
  4. you haven't said it's essential flight (i.e someone's funeral etc) so I'm assuming it's a holiday, so if money's that tight perhaps you shouldn't have booked a holiday?
JacquesHammer · 04/10/2019 08:24

Pay for what you intend to use.

It’s morally suspect to not do so.

jollygoose · 04/10/2019 08:30

I can`t believe how "judgey" some mns are! I wonder if you are so sanctimonius in real life. Enjoy your extra bonus it will be fine.

Quartz2208 · 04/10/2019 08:30

She has paid for it though it just not been allocated to her
Based on my experience calling will not help they will sort it out themselves and probably within the week

OP I spend time on this when it happened to me (my flights were an amazing deal) if you have a ticket the transaction has been done and they have been paid the money just needs reallocating. Probably into tax/extras/fare

imnottoofussed · 04/10/2019 08:32

I booked flights for 2 with flybe in one booking (actually booked via Thomas cook a package) and the cost came out in separate payments on different days two separate flight costs and one hotel cost.

Peridot1 · 04/10/2019 08:35

They will more than likely still take the payment. Their accounting systems will flag it.

sonjadog · 04/10/2019 08:40

They will take the payment. This sometimes happens to me and it looks like it has disappeared, but it comes back after a couple of days. Check back after the weekend and I think you will see the correct amount has been taken.
