To not pay for this plane ticket

GotOffThePlane · 03/10/2019 23:44

I bought two plane tickets with KLM. The price for both was pending all day yesterday and today. But now, only half the amount has been taken out my account.

I’ve received both tickets and numbers etc by email and they still show up on the app.

My partner says I should phone KLM incase we can’t both board the flight when the time comes. I say, what if it’s a mistake on their part and just alerts them to take the rest of the money. Money is tight at the moment.

Has anyone experienced this before? Should I call them?

Haha is right, it's six years and a day although after six months they will need to write to you to tell you that they'll redebit the amount. Before that they can take it at any point.

They will spot this and collect the money; and I'd be concerned about the validity of the ticket that hasn't been paid for, now and when you come to fly!

Ponoka7 · 04/10/2019 08:40

"I wonder what would happen if you went to the extreme length of closing down your account to prevent them taking it at a later date!"

They'd email and try to call you, if they got no response they'd cancel the ticket and it would be re-released for sale.

For those saying pay on the day, if it's to somewhere like Amsterdam, the flights sell out.

Tescp hone delivery doesn't take my payment until two days after delivery. A lot of shops give you the option of paying upto two weeks after delivery. Which saves money going out your account and waiting for it, if your stuff doesn't fit etc.

But by the attitudes on here, that'll probably soon stop because of them getting ripped off, or waiting so long for an account to be credited again.

TC was a huge company too, look what happened to them....... ☹️

IdiotInDisguise · 04/10/2019 08:47

Don’t be an idiot and check with the airline the payment has gone through. Your bank may be holding part of the money if there are automatic maximum spenditure lock is place. Your tickets will be cancelled at a later date if your bank doesn’t release the money in time, they won’t call you for the owes money, they will just tell you at check in that your tickets are invalid.

verticality · 04/10/2019 09:02

Sometimes they don't let you fly if there's a tiny, minor error between your passport and the ticket details. My friend is called Matthew on his passport, the airline wouldn't fly him because he'd put 'Matt' on the tickets. I can't imagine how many more problems you'd encounter if the ticket hadn't been paid for! It could really ruin a trip. Not worth the risk.

SevenTillFour · 04/10/2019 09:28

They charge each ticket individually, the other charge will come through the next day.

Witchend · 04/10/2019 09:36

Plus they’re a huge company So was Thomas Cook...

NoSauce · 04/10/2019 09:41

I can`t believe how "judgey" some mns are! I wonder if you are so sanctimonius in real life. Enjoy your extra bonus it will be fine

Are they sanctimonious or just not deceitful?

Yabbers · 04/10/2019 09:42

You really want to risk arriving at the airport and being told you cant fly?

She has the ticket. The booking has been made.

Yabbers · 04/10/2019 09:44

Are they sanctimonious or just not deceitful?

Deceit implies intent. The error is KLM’s not the OP’s

MrsMaiselsMuff · 04/10/2019 09:49

Deceit implies intent. The error is KLM’s not the OP’s

Intent does not end once one person makes an error. She now intends not to alert them to their error. That is deceitful.

Catnuzzle · 04/10/2019 09:52

It's isn't theft. It's fraud. You know you owe the money. You booked expecting to pay. If you hadn't realised you hadn't been charged, then there's no criminal intent. But you do know. So you're committing a criminal offence by not telling them.

Have you noticed how many big businesses are going bust? The 'it's a big business not a sole trader' thing just doesn't cut it. Wobble your moral compass and do the right thing.

shearwater · 04/10/2019 10:21

The onus is definitely on them to sort it out. If I had both tickets correct I would assume there was some kind of offer rather than a mistake, wouldn't say anything and would never give it a second thought.

ElizaPancakes · 04/10/2019 10:27

I wouldn’t call them OP - but I would obsessively check my bank account to see if the money had been taken.

Just keep it available as they can and probably will take it any time in the next six months.

KarmaStar · 04/10/2019 10:27

Shop lifters stealing from big stores always say that it doesn't matter as the company is worth millions, what's a few quid to them?
Your moral decision to make nobody elses.

Quartz2208 · 04/10/2019 10:30

The error isn’t KLM when the credit/debit card cleared the transaction they got the money. To them the transaction is complete and done. Tickets released payment made
Where it has gone missing (or simply unseen for awhile) is at the bank end.
They will release the books don’t tally and will add it back onto the correct account

This is exactly what happened to me and sure enough 4 days later it was back on and all paid for

altiara · 04/10/2019 10:32

Technically you’ve paid the full amount, they’ve taken some of it and will almost 100% likely take the rest within a couple of days. Don’t stress about it.

shearwater · 04/10/2019 10:32

It's not fraud or theft, armchair lawyers.

MintyMabel · 04/10/2019 10:41

Without knowing the detail of the transaction, you can't know this. It could be either the bank or KLM.

AlanRickmanslovely · 04/10/2019 10:42

I can afford the ticket, I’ve left the money in my account for it. But it would’ve relieved some financial stress to have been able to keep it. Surely that’s a natural reaction

Awful attitude OP

MintyMabel · 04/10/2019 10:43

So you're committing a criminal offence by not telling them.

Presumably you can point to the part of the law which says this?

Catnuzzle · 04/10/2019 13:17

Fraud is the wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.

Not an armchair lawyer. It's the law.

PickedByYou · 04/10/2019 13:34

I can`t believe how "judgey" some mns are! I wonder if you are so sanctimonius in real life

I don't believe I'm judgey or sanctimonious but I am honest and it wouldn't cross my mind to not pay for the tickets fully if I were the OP.

I think it's dishonest and cheap of the OP to try to keep the money.

MyOtherProfile · 04/10/2019 13:48

When do you travel? Give it a few days to see if it goes through.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 04/10/2019 13:52

KLMs T&Cs...

"(j) The Passenger (or the person who paid for the Ticket) has not paid the Fare Including Tax in force and/or the applicable Issue Fees and/or Taxes."

Fare is defined as "Fares means the fares, charges, levies, costs for a journey charged to the Passenger, for a specified reservation class, for given routes, and, where applicable, filghts and dates, and the corresponding fare conditions."
