Blimey Andrea. Interesting choice.

Totally inappropriate.
The skirt is too short for business wear, and combined with the boots it looks cheap and tarty. And the coat is simply hideous.
Women have spent generations trying to get taken seriously. This puts the cause back by about 50 years.
I guess I’ll get flamed for this. Oh well...

Yeah, this is the important issue in politics at the moment.

Leadsom is supporting a PM who unlawfully shut down parliament and paid a hooker with public funds.

She also made the first proper attempt to hold MPs to account for abusive behaviour to their staff.

Any chance you might have an opinion on anything other than her sartorial choices?

I think you are overestimating how much attention your post will get, sill it's nice to have goals.

Fluffsmum · 03/10/2019 23:35

Love it! Would love it if all the MPs mixed up the style a bit. Focus should be on what they do, not what they wear.

AlunWynsKnee · 03/10/2019 23:39

I don't want to see politician's thighs.

NigellaAwesome · 03/10/2019 23:42

Surprisingly good thighs though.

Actually I think her wearing what she wants is a breath of fresh air. I can think of something beginning with B that is more rage inducing Grin

Doingtheboxerbeat · 03/10/2019 23:47

I would so wear this. But maybe not on the first date, maybe second.

QualCheckBot · 03/10/2019 23:48

I like the coat but I always think about how our politicians compare with those in Europe. And it does seem to transgress the standard informal but implicit dress code. I know I wouldn't be allowed to wear stuff like that to my work. Its good that times change though.

donquixotedelamancha · 03/10/2019 23:48

There are many cultures which do not allow women to show their legs. Have you considered moving to Saudi Arabia?

greenlynx · 03/10/2019 23:49

With this choice of clothes it’s difficult not to notice what she’s wearing....

AlunWynsKnee · 03/10/2019 23:51

@NigellaAwesome fair point but I don't want her to set a precedent!

NorthernSpirit · 03/10/2019 23:53

Such a shame when women put other women down. Who are you all to judge?

AlunWynsKnee · 03/10/2019 23:54

@donquixotedelamancha you put women into that, not me.

Catsandchardonnay · 03/10/2019 23:57

What’s she’s wearing is irrelevant. She’s a loathsome person though.

donquixotedelamancha · 04/10/2019 00:00

you put women into that, not me.

Your post is about what a woman is wearing. You don't see comments like this about men.

araiwa · 04/10/2019 00:03

If boris turned up in a skintight short outfit , there would be thousands of comments

AlunWynsKnee · 04/10/2019 00:07

@donquixotedelamancha no you're wrong. I worded it deliberately. My MP is a man. I really don't want to see his thighs. I cannot think of a single MP whose thighs would enrich my life.

AProblemHasOccured · 04/10/2019 00:07

Who remembers 'legs-it'? Women really do get scrutinised no matter what they do. You never see men getting told they dress inappropriately.

BlackCatSleeping · 04/10/2019 00:09

I love the coat. I think she looks great!

araiwa · 04/10/2019 00:10

Is that because youve never seen a male mp dressed inappropriately?

WhatTiggersDoBest · 04/10/2019 00:14

This puts the cause back by about 50 years.
Which cause? The cause of prudes and pearl-clutchers dictating what women should wear?? Hmm Because as far as I'm aware, we all have the freedom to make poor wardrobe choices without having to consider that some man-in-charge will turn around and say, "nope, you've ruined it for every woman in the UK. All of you get back in the kitchen foreverrrr."
Yeesh.

AProblemHasOccured · 04/10/2019 00:15

No, it's because women are judged by society mainly on their looks and what they are wearing, rather than their minds. It's not as if she's wearing nipple tassels and and a thong.

Papergirl1968 · 04/10/2019 00:35

I used to work as police staff and I would have been sacked for wearing that get up (not that I’ve got the figure for the boots and skirt but I digress).
In certain jobs she might get away with it, and obviously off duty she can wear what she wants. For anyone working in a bank or office, or in politics, I maintain it’s not appropriate. Dark suits, livened up with a colourful blouse or jumper if desired, or a dress are appropriate.
Those boots would have been much nicer with a calf length dress. And the coat perhaps wouldn’t have looked so awful over a plain dark dress.
It’s not about women bashing other women. Anyway, from the grin on her face she clearly thinks she’s the cat’s whiskers.
