Why are we meant to care about this woman's skirt length?

Papergirl1968 · 04/10/2019 00:45

The coat is £1,247 from Burberry, apparently. A case of a fool and her money being easily parted. Still, perhaps she could sell it to a passing clown.

kateandme · 04/10/2019 00:46

AProblemHasOccured allthough i would love to see Borris in this get-up :D

pigsDOfly · 04/10/2019 00:47

I'm all for women, or men, wearing whatever they like, but in some circumstances certain clothes are best left at home and kept to be worn in less formal settings.

If a male MP turned up to work wear a pair of calf length shorts and sandals, with or without sock, I'm sure there would be quite a number of comments made by quite a number of people.

It's not about women bashing women, the clothes she's wearing wouldn't be acceptable in most city offices, why should they be considered appropriate wear for someone working in the house of commons; I'm assuming that's where she's heading.

VanGoghsDog · 04/10/2019 00:48

It's not as if she's wearing nipple tassels and and a thong.

To be fair, you don't know that.....

AProblemHasOccured · 04/10/2019 00:51

True 🤔

Seren85 · 04/10/2019 00:56

I'm quite torn on this. I am very much for women not being judged on their clothing and wearing what they like and feel comfortable in but then some jobs or professions have dress codes to keep things 'appropriate'. Whilst I have no doubt she can do her job (and I'll continue to disagree with her) dressed in anything at all, it does seem incongruous with the usual presentation of her job. If a male MP turned up in black jeans, a Slayer tshirt and DMs I don't doubt he could do his job and I'd admire his musical taste but I'd still find it inappropriate.

steff13 · 04/10/2019 01:01

I love that coat

UniversalAunt · 04/10/2019 01:23

That coat is grim.
The frock & boots would have worked better with a blue toned tight, or stocking even...

Boris would not have worn it better.
Any politician rocking up to No. 10 that badly dressed would have caused comment.

DeRigueurMortis · 04/10/2019 01:47

I may be in a minority but I like the coat.

As for the dress/boots - she can wear what she likes and frankly has the figure for such an outfit.

That said, it's an outfit for when you're going out with friends for some cocktails. It's not workwear.

So, no I'm not going to bash what she's wearing, but I don't think it's appropriate for the context.

1forAll74 · 04/10/2019 02:04

She wore this nice bright outfit, because she thought it was going to be party day, when all of Brexit was sorted out.!

Miaowing · 04/10/2019 02:21

I don't see why what someone wears has any reflection on their job

I had jeans, t-shirt, grotty slippers and was wearing headphones in work today

I earn six figures.

Wear what the fuck you like.

Just speak properly and write correctly. Oh, and do the job you're paid to do. That is what matters.

Caucho · 04/10/2019 03:05

Horrible now you mentioned it but only women raise such issues. But I’ll await for some Guardian article about poor women MPs being subject to comments about their dress sense unlike male ones. And it will be men’s fault- not the female journalists

BlackCatSleeping · 04/10/2019 03:36

Of course appearances matter and Boris Johnston gets plenty of comments about his hair. David Cameron got plenty of comments about his clothes too.

I think she looks nice but not really work appropriate.

donquixotedelamancha · 04/10/2019 06:26

donquixotedelamancha no you're wrong. I worded it deliberately.

I only wrote two sentences. Which one is factually incorrect?

My MP is a man.

Well done. Could you link to a thread where you've commented on how he should dress?

Dongdingdong · 04/10/2019 06:35

This puts the cause back by about 50 years.

No, it really doesn’t. You sound like some sort of 1930s school ma’am, insisting that women should cover up Hmm

Amanduh · 04/10/2019 06:36

She looks great. This thread is depressing as hell.

longwayoff · 04/10/2019 06:39

To be fair, it is nearly panto season. But where's the cat?

seaweedandmarchingbands · 04/10/2019 06:42

Oh no! Her lady legs! Whatever will we do?

Hmm
OwlBeThere · 04/10/2019 06:42

the boots would look better with a calf length dress

Literally nothing looks good with a calf length dress.
Personally I think she can wear what she likes.

Moon108 · 04/10/2019 06:44

No I don’t agree she can wear what she likes. I can’t at work. This isn’t women bashing....Men can’t rock up in shorts and vests and I cant wear flip flops for example.

I’m sorry but I don’t think someone who lacks intelligence and can’t realise what is appropriate to wear in a business setting should have the job she does!

This is obviously a formal place, some people in there still wear wigs for goodness sake.she looks like she’s loving the attention she’s getting. And wants more, hence the inappropriate outfit. Believe me love... it’s not good attention, the eyes of the world are on you because you are all doing a shitty job.

Iggly · 04/10/2019 06:46

Those saying it’s inappropriate wear - the issue is that women are judged by much higher standards than men. In everything.

What, exactly, is her outfit doing to interfere with her ability as a politician?

Bluntness100 · 04/10/2019 06:48

She looks like the child catcher from chitty chitty bang bang.

I am also for people wearing what they want, but be it Male or female there is a dress code for certain roles, and as a pp said, if Boris had turned up in something tight and revealing the internet would have blown up.

The question I think is why she's decided to sex it up. No senior woman decides to dress in thigh high boots and a mini skirt to go to work because they think it's comfy or professional.

It's likely to be for attention. The question is why and from whom?

Dongdingdong · 04/10/2019 06:50

Literally nothing looks good with a calf length dress.

Disagree. I love a calf length dress.
