@FamilyOfAliens you work in a primary school where weird Victorian-mentality parents are itching at any opportunity to cast scorn on "inappropriate" teaching staff

Leadsom is from the City, where once you get to a certain place, a bit of flair is occasionally expected - I've had bosses who have worn shortish dresses, low cut blouses, whatever - I don't think about it because we're adults in a high pressure industry getting on with it, and these people have earned the right to express themselves and their individuality however they want.

In buttoned up hierarchical environments such as teaching then yes I can comprehend why some people would go "ooh she's a tall poppy, no thanks, get back in line and wear monochrome knee length" but I don't work in that sector and neither does Leadsom so the rules don't apply - yes people expect sartorial sobriety from ministers, but I don't - she was more than a minister before Government so why do I expect her to erase her personality just to make the Victorian types comfortable?!

PettyContractor · 04/10/2019 08:44

I think she looks good.

If dressing that way makes her feel good, for me that overrides all other considerations of how she "should" dress.

I think the people wittering about dress codes have missed the point. She's a boss, not a worker. There's no-one above her to give a toss what she wears. (Well, I suppose there's Boris, but I think PM's have more important things to worry about than what people wear.)

If you think about many tech company CEOs, you'll find many examples of people who dress how the fuck they like, because they're too important and in control for it to matter what anyone else thinks. (Though all of the ones I'm thinking of are men using that freedom to dress down, rather than up.) (Perhaps not quite the same though, as they're in organisations where often the workers aren't necessarily expected to be in suits either.)

Bluntness100 · 04/10/2019 08:45

I can see why some posters think clothes don't matter but really, you are kidding yourselves

I suspect they are just trying to argue a point and for the majority of these posters they personally dress appropriately for given situations, be it work, school visits, social life etc etc.

Youmakemewannashout · 04/10/2019 08:45

Looks like she’s in a pantomime-
‘Oh no she isn’t ,”
“Oh yes she is”,
“Oh no she isn’t “,

“OH YES SHE IS !”

GinDaddy · 04/10/2019 08:49

@PettyContractor exactly! Leadsom has achieved so much - she's come into Government with a serious resume and I doubt she's even thinking in the same way as others who have to conform in order to project seriousness.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 04/10/2019 08:49

I don't like the dress myself but I'm not wearing it, she is and all that matters is if she likes it herself. The coat is just GORGEOUS.

ExecutiveFiat · 04/10/2019 08:51

Apart from the ridiculous clothes, more importantly her politics are reprehensible. She could wear anything and still be a nasty piece of work!

MarshaBradyo · 04/10/2019 08:52

The comments on Boris groping are bad

On her leg well it’s just a leg but I bet the photographer got the shot with most exposure on purpose just for click bait

oohyoudevilyou · 04/10/2019 08:52

Don't like the outfit or the woman herself, but totally support her right to dress however she wants.

54321go · 04/10/2019 08:55

From the shoulders downwards she is quite attractive, and she can wear what she likes.
From the neck upwards it all goes horribly wrong.
The fact her tongue moves is alo a letdown.

Hoppinggreen · 04/10/2019 08:56

While I agree that people should wear what they want in general there are rules and norms around what you wear for work and I don’t think that her outfit is appropriate for an MP
Great legs though!

FreshwaterBay · 04/10/2019 08:57

Exactly. A wolf wearing a sheep's skin.

ChocChocButtons · 04/10/2019 08:57

she Looks fab! Good for her.

Pitterpatterpettysteps · 04/10/2019 08:59

My old boss (a very senior woman in a major publishing house) used to dress like this in her 50s. I rather liked it, was always interested to see what she would wear next!

JacquesHammer · 04/10/2019 08:59

What is most depressing isn’t Ms Leadsom’s choice of outfit, but the usual misogyny spouted.

That is what “sets the cause back 50 years”, not the fact we can see a bit of thigh.

Purplejay · 04/10/2019 09:04

I disagree with her politics but couldn’t care less about her wardrobe choices. She can wear what she likes. Why does it matter?

ExecutiveFiat · 04/10/2019 09:07

What is the ‘cause’ Jaques?

verticality · 04/10/2019 09:08

Why do some women ALWAYS have to tear others down on the basis of appearance. It is not smart or clever. It makes you look trivial, and it fails to advance the cause of women being taken seriously as something more than makeup wearing coathagers. GROW THE FUCK UP.

ExecutiveFiat · 04/10/2019 09:11

I’ve also criticised male politicians for looking unprofessional.

WispyTurnip · 04/10/2019 09:11

Boris is always suited and booted and in business attire at work.

Boris Johnson met Leo Varadkar in Dublin last month with his shirt hanging out from his trousers and his usual bed hair. Dominic Cummings wanders about doing evil in crumpled, untucked shirts, a Joules gilet, and a Levi sweatshirt -- he dresses like he's run out to the garage for milk in the middle of playing computer games.

And if I had to name the top ten things I am deeply concerned about in Andrea Leadsom, Dominic Cummings or Boris Johnson, their dress sense would not figure.

Lowlandlucky · 04/10/2019 09:14

OP, our last Prime Minister wore near enough the same outfit about 5 years ago and it didnt do her career any harm. I do agree that the skirt is too short

Bluntness100 · 04/10/2019 09:16

I really don't understand why some people are tying themselves up in knots trying to make this gender biased. It's clearly not. The men are also expected to adhere to a business dress code and Jeremy Corbyn, to give one example, was slaughtered for his anorak.

championquartz · 04/10/2019 09:18

Misogynistic thread.

JacquesHammer · 04/10/2019 09:18

ExecutiveFiat

Quoting a poster on the first page. Her words, not mine.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 04/10/2019 09:18

She looks great. I'm wearing something similar today: I've got great legs too Blush
