My dad made me wear a donkey jacket to primary school! Worst coat either

stucknoue · 04/10/2019 12:56

I would wear it but I'm a few years her junior and don't work in an environment with a dress code unless I'm organising a funeral

longwayoff · 04/10/2019 13:07

So she arrived at her meeting and took off her coat . . .

OP posts:
Aprillygirl · 04/10/2019 13:09

I love the coat and think she looks amazing! Why should she not be taken seriously just because she is having fun with fashion plus showing a bit of leg?

IsoscelesSandwich · 04/10/2019 13:11

Or all you well educated women could bore off about what she’s wearing?

Bluntness100 · 04/10/2019 13:20

Where can I read the details of this dress code?

Just google formal business atttire if you're confused.

Bluntness100 · 04/10/2019 13:21

Or all you well educated women could bore off about what she’s wearing?

Eh? Confused

JacquesHammer · 04/10/2019 13:25

Just google formal business atttire if you're confused

Of which quite a number of the entries are women with skirts well above the knee....

SerenDippitty · 04/10/2019 13:29

There is misogyny on this thread, and a bit of bitching, i.e looks okay from below the neck or incredulity about her age, but criticising an outfit is not misogynistic if it's in the right context. Her outfit was not appropriate for her office. Perfectly fine for off duty though.

Nailed it.

Bluntness100 · 04/10/2019 14:07

You must be googling something way different to me jacques.,,,🤣

Bluntness100 · 04/10/2019 14:10

And of course her outfit was great for non work time, I actually like the boots and what I can see of the dress, I'd wear something similar myself. I have the hush Tara dress for example, and wear it with knee high boots and opaques and I'm fifty,

I'm no fan of the coat but that's personal taste.

However the discussion isn't is it suitable for her personal life, it's is it formal business attire and the answer is no, it's not. Just like the muscle vest and purple pvc trousers aren't for a bloke.

Ginathemachina · 04/10/2019 14:40

She’s got delusions that she’s the “bees knees”.

Looks like something the cat dragged in!

SerendipityJane · 04/10/2019 14:57

No one seen this story ? Seems to fit right in .....

www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-trending-49931273

A company in Texas posted an image of a job applicant wearing a swimsuit as an example of how not to apply for a job.

Marketing company Kickass Masterminds posted an Instagram slide - since removed - of applicant Emily Clow, along with advice on professionalism.

"Do not share your social media with a potential employer if this is the kind of content on it," it said.

The company has since made its own accounts private after receiving "death threats and harassing messages".

Ms Clow applied for a marketing role with the firm as "it was a company founded by women, seemed to support women in business and worked with start-ups".

But she was shocked by the public shaming.

BlackCatSleeping · 04/10/2019 15:06

In the bikini story, she was wearing a bikini at a beach or pool. It’s not like she turned up to work dressed like that. I think it’s a different situation altogether.

ateallthecake · 04/10/2019 16:23

She looks ridiculous and needs a new mirror/stylist.

GinDaddy · 04/10/2019 17:00

Why does she look "ridiculous" and how does anyone think how she looked had any bearing on the meeting she had?

She is widely respected (and feted) by a number of prominent men within her party. She is confident, well off and dresses like someone who doesn't give a fuck what you in accounts or you in Form C might think, hemmed in (excuse the pun) by your restrictive dress codes and need to body shame older women.

JacquesHammer · 04/10/2019 17:04

You must be googling something way different to me jacques

I googled exactly what you suggested people google with “for women” afterwards.

Just like the muscle vest and purple pvc trousers aren't for a bloke

Which is a fairly nonsensical comparison to a black dress and patterned coat, no?

ExecutiveFiat · 04/10/2019 17:20

@looks like something the cat dragged in😂

LizB62A · 04/10/2019 17:45

Naturally the Daily Fail had to mention her age when they reported this.
They never seem to report male politician's ages (as far as I've noticed anyway)
The Daily Fail is just so sh!t

ExecutiveFiat · 04/10/2019 18:10

Of course the daily fail is shit. It doesn’t mean that i’m not astonished that she’s only late 50’s!!

midnightmisssuki · 04/10/2019 18:12

Yes - this is an issue. Youre right - amongst the shitstorm of politics swirling around, we should talk about her clothes.

FamilyOfAliens · 04/10/2019 19:15

In buttoned up hierarchical environments such as teaching then yes I can comprehend why some people would go "ooh she's a tall poppy, no thanks, get back in line and wear monochrome knee length"

Have you ever been inside a UK school, @GinDaddy? We’ve moved on a bit since Mallory Towers.

ateallthecake · 04/10/2019 21:48

Cor Gindaddy what ate you today? I'm not body shaming her nor could I give a fuck about her meeting. I'm commenting purely on her choice of outfit. I would say the same if the wearer was 20 years younger or older. It's painful to look at it's so bad. God what has happened to Mumsnet? It used to be full of witty repartee not uptight police.

DoubleFunMum · 04/10/2019 22:10

The OP has nothing to do with her being female. It's about appropriateness. As a PP said, you rarely see a male MP dressed inappropriately. Wish the women would get their act together. They are the ones setting back equality by drawing attention to their clothes and bodies in a professional environment. Whether you like the coat or not (irrelevant) the point is that it is bold, eye-catching and outlandish. Men wear suits that are tailored, well cut and understated. Colour can be added by a tie - the equivalent for a woman would be a scarf or blouse, not a flash of thigh!

Armi · 04/10/2019 22:14

She looks a bloody state. Inappropriate for work and a horrible look if going out for the evenI gotta.

She absolutely has the right to wear what she wants, but I also reserve the right to think (and say) she looks terrible. Which she does.
