I hope she takes no notice of everyones comments and continues to wear what she wants is what I should have typed lol

FamilyOfAliens · 04/10/2019 08:12

I don’t think the comments are about whether it’s casual or not.

If I wore a skirt that short in my job in a primary school, I would expect someone to make a comment. Whatever might happen in the ideal world.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 04/10/2019 08:13

Guess no one on this thread has ever worn a sensible knee length dress that rides up when they walk then?

GinDaddy · 04/10/2019 08:14

What is all this stuff about "professional?! Really depressing, reads like some civil service memo.

I work in the City. I see "professional" women daily in my work.

I would never dream of worrying about, commenting on, or even discussing whether a woman should wear particular clothing, unless it was something so clearly beyond commercial aims as to be detrimental (I'm thinking a see through top that shows underwear, or whatever other obvious clear example - never seen that however in 15 years in this career).

In fact the successful women I work with tend to dress as previous posters stipulate (dark colours, lengths etc) however some days they wear a smart short dress or whatever, or a bright scarf. Do I care? Of course not - they look fantastic but it's beside the point, they are there and regarded because of their commercial achievements.

JoObrien7 · 04/10/2019 08:14

As long as she does the job I couldn't care less what she wears. I think my fingers have a mind of their own! I am a trained touch typist and I have just typed gobbledygook!

Northernlurker · 04/10/2019 08:16

As soon as somebody starts talking about 'appropriate' clothing I know exactly who they are.
Ms Leadsom looks great, confident and focused. I don't like what she stands for but her boot, dress and coat game is strong and nothing for anybody else to wring their hands over.

JoObrien7 · 04/10/2019 08:16

Today I am wearing a red leopard print knee length dress and red ankle boots and a red short jacket because I am going to see a client. I think I look ok and anyone disagrees ... tough!

HavelockVetinari · 04/10/2019 08:17

I think she looks great, she has the legs for it. However, I don't think it's appropriate to judge female politicians for what they wear - it's tough enough in Westminster without even more misogynistic crap.

PianoTuner567 · 04/10/2019 08:17

obrien he’s not at work there though is he?

ExecutiveFiat · 04/10/2019 08:18

Awful woman, awful outfit. Yanbu.

KatyCarrCan · 04/10/2019 08:19

I have lots of issues with her politics but I don't care what she wears. What strikes me about the photos is that she seems to be enjoying wearing those clothes. I'm supportive of people wearing clothes that make them feel happy.

JoObrien7 · 04/10/2019 08:20

@PianoTuner567

Yes but he needs to give a better impression because he is the PM. I don't particularly like Boris I think he is a cheater and a womaniser.

SleepyKat · 04/10/2019 08:20

I said to a friend the other day how inappropriately dominic Cummings dresses. Crumpled polo shirts and scruffy hoodies. So I do judge men on how they dress.

I'd agree that what Leadsome was wearing would be seen as inappropriate in a lot of business circles. Not the colourful coat but the short skirt length.

JinglingHellsBells · 04/10/2019 08:24

The point that people are missing is that clothes in a formal role (and let's stop pretending she is not in a formal role) should not make a statement or a distraction in themselves. They should not scream 'Look at me!'

I can see why some posters think clothes don't matter but really, you are kidding yourselves.

In the tech industry it's fine for Mark Z or the late Steve Jobs to turn up in jeans and a T shirt.

In government you are supposed to wear more sober clothes that reflect your authority and seriousness of your work.

You might think that's bollocks but if Boris or any other male minister rocked up to work for a formal meeting wearing red jeans and a yellow T shirt, people would screech.

The point about Andrea's outfit is it doesn't suit her - or any woman!
The showing of so much thigh and the connotations of thigh high boots are all wrong. It comes over as trying to hard to look young when your face and hair say otherwise.
And the coat is just a nightmare.

Weirdwonders · 04/10/2019 08:24

Wow, now she even looks ridiculous and inept.

ExecutiveFiat · 04/10/2019 08:24

Slightly off topic, but Bojo could be wearing a ££££ suit and still look like a sack of spuds.
It’s cringy looking at him especially next to someone like Leo Varakdar who always looks fantastic.

JoObrien7 · 04/10/2019 08:25

@SleepKat

President Trump wears some shocking suits .. you would think his wife would tell him but I bet she enjoy watching him wear ill fitting clothes because it makes her look good. My husband is color blind and asked me to pick him a shirt and tie for a court case. I picked a pink shirt and a yellow flowery tie.(I wanted him to look cheerful in court) When he arrived home later he said everyone kept staring at his tie all the time. [grin}

c75kp0r · 04/10/2019 08:27

I think Dominic Cumming's dress is designed to show that he is so powerful that he doesn't need to respect convention or normal standards - ie he can wear what he likes and do what he likes.

As for La Leadsom, I don't think flashing a thigh is appropriate for work whatever age /gender you are.

henchmen33 · 04/10/2019 08:31

It's clear from the look on Angela's face she knows exactly what she's doing

Horrible woman, inside and out

donquixotedelamancha · 04/10/2019 08:32

She looks like a prostitute.

Definitely no misogyny on this thread.

AnyFucker · 04/10/2019 08:33

Boobs and legs

A no-no, I am told

Otherwise, I don't really care.

ExecutiveFiat · 04/10/2019 08:34

Cummings looks like a tramp. The anorak and the shopping bag😀 WTF is that all about!

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 04/10/2019 08:36

President Trump wears some shocking suits .. you would think his wife would tell

Why would you think she would tell him? Is it a woman’s job or responsibility how husband is dressed?

ExecutiveFiat · 04/10/2019 08:38

I’ve just googled and found out that AL is only in in 50’s. I thought she was a decade older at least. shocked..

Bluntness100 · 04/10/2019 08:40

I also think Cummings looks a total mess. He's the only one who doesn't wear business attire. Well apart from leadsome now. 🤣
