Literally nothing looks good with a calf length dress.

Yep. I do not own a single skirt or dress in that length and do not intend to do so no matter how inappropriate others think that is for my age.

GoFiguire · 04/10/2019 06:50

Maybe she is hoping that Boris will grope her inner thigh.

Moon108 · 04/10/2019 06:51

It’s not about how it affects your job. It’s not about women. People judge. It’s human nature. I’m judging Boris for his hair and let’s say I was a leader of another country deciding whether to accept his new deal in a meeting with him, his hair is distracting, I’d be wondering who cuts it etc.

I’m judging Andrea too. She doesn’t look classy. It is distracting me from taking her seriously. I’m judging her for lapping up attention like she’s fresh out of Love Island.

FamilyOfAliens · 04/10/2019 06:59

I don't see why what someone wears has any reflection on their job

I disagree. I work in a primary school - about the most relaxed environment you can imagine. Our head teacher says we can wear anything provided you can’t see up it, down it, or through it. I think she’s got it just right.

bevelino · 04/10/2019 06:59

@GoFiguire Grin

Bluntness100 · 04/10/2019 07:00

Those saying it’s inappropriate wear - the issue is that women are judged by much higher standards than men

In this context this is moot. There is a dress code for certain roles. They require business attire. Be you Male or female. You just need to look at the rest of the cabinet to see this if youre confused.

Business attire does not equate to mini skirts and thigh high boots. Just as it doesn't equate to muscle vests and tight trousers for the men. Both genders are expected to comply.

You can argue that there should not be a dress code, it doesn't interfere with their ability to do the role, but for this one, you cannot argue that she is being held to a different standard to the men. Because they too are clearly expected to wear business attire.

And no. Mini skirts and thigh high boots are not considered business attire for her role.

henchmen33 · 04/10/2019 07:02

She's just awful so the outfit suits.

Funny how her dress style is changing with Boris in post.

Anyone can wear what they want but must people recognise that certain clothes are appropriate for certain situations.

This outfit is not appropriate for a work/business environment, and it does affect her credibility, because it makes me question her judgement.

Sarcelle · 04/10/2019 07:12

We are in a mess politically. She can wear the hell what she likes, but not in this context. It seems an ill judged outfit, frivolous and showy. She knows she will be photographed going into No 10. It is just cloth but what you wear does send out a message and this one does not signal I mean business, it looks like she wants business.

If she was going out privately, fine. Going to work to sort out a political mess, not fine. If a man turned up in a scarlet suit, with a kipper or with a shirt unbuttoned to the waist a la Bruno Tonioli I would feel the same.

(I actually like the coat. It's just a brightly coloured trench. Worn with cigarette pants, ballet flats etc, it would look great. But I digress.)

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 04/10/2019 07:14

It's certainly a bold choice.

My eyebrow is raised just as high as it would have been had Boris rocked up to the meeting in shorts and a cape.

Missingsandraohingreys · 04/10/2019 07:16

This puts the cause back by about 50 years

No . It just puts women off
Going into politics . As you
Get shit like this

Who literally gives a fuck ?

Missingsandraohingreys · 04/10/2019 07:18

I am enjoying that male Irish MP though GrinGrin

WhenYouCantRunYouCrawl · 04/10/2019 07:22

Has everyone forgotten the flack Jeremy Corbyn gets for some of his clothing choices?

www.telegraph.co.uk/men/fashion-and-style/11868132/Dressing-to-the-Left-Jeremy-Corbyn-menswear-maverick.html

Cameron even told him to put on a tie during PMQs. It's not sexism to say Leadsom's outfit is inappropriate for parliament. She looks like she's about to hit a classy nightclub not debate the future of the country.

TheDinnerWitch · 04/10/2019 07:24

I think for me it's about how much the outfit doesn't match her hairstyle.
Looking at her clothes you would guess she was a trendsetter who was really into brands and looking stylish.
Then you look at her hairstyle and I see a middle-ages headmistress whose mother probably also has the same hairstyle.
It is it doesn't 'go'.

Justgivemesomepeace · 04/10/2019 07:24

Im assuming shes at work as shes carrying a folder.
If so thats totally inappropriate, unprofessional workwear. She would be sent home to change where i work, and in most other workplaces too i expect.
If its on her own time, then meh.

PegasusReturns · 04/10/2019 07:25

I give a fuck.

Rightly or wrongly dress codes exist and the fact she cannot adhere to one makes me question her judgement.

Either that or she is deliberately attention seeking in order to detract from the current chaos. Which I also don't like.

Loveislandaddict · 04/10/2019 07:25

Love the coat.

ginandbearit · 04/10/2019 07:28

bluntness100 maybe a little temptress thing for when she next sits beside Boris at table ? "Feel my thighs Prime Minister...I can get a firm grip on anything ...make me Chancellor..you wont regret it ."

thebakerwithboobs · 04/10/2019 07:31

This puts the cause back by about 50 years.

Does it? Really? Because I think that slating a woman for what she's wearing puts the cause back 50 years, not a politician (which great legs, actually) wearing what she fucking pleases!!

On a personal taste level I don't like her ensemble but she probably wouldn't choose what I'm wearing to work today.

OhMyApplePie · 04/10/2019 07:34

She looks like a prostitute.

FamilyOfAliens · 04/10/2019 07:36

great legs, actually

So it’s ok for you to comment on her legs but not ok for another poster to criticise her choice of outfit for work?

MzHz · 04/10/2019 07:37

All the comparisons here are completely irrelevant and disingenuous

“If a man turned up in cut off/calf length/shorts and a vest/slayer T-shirt etc etc”

These are all descriptions of scruffy and lazy wear. She’s not scruffy, nor lazy.

I say this about the hijab etc, but it’s just as relevant

While we might not like what a woman wears, nobody has any right to tell her what she can and can’t wear.

I hate the fact that women are picking at another woman’s appearance

Get over yourselves you idiots and judge for what value people have, what they do etc, and stop turning everything into how women look to others.

Sarcelle · 04/10/2019 07:40

Nobody does have the right to tell her what to wear, agreed. But what she is wearing is not appropriate for the important job she is doing. Her judgement is called into question.

GoFiguire · 04/10/2019 07:40

Alright. I wont comment about her appearance. But she is a vile woman who is hell bent on destroying this country for her own personal gain.

Is that better?
