To mourn MN as it was in the Moulden Days

Admittedly, it was not perfect (full of quiches and Queen Bees). So much so that I gave it a rest for a considerable while. I may even have Flounced at some point (though was not a Mouldie. I would never have been cool enough).

But I now mourn the Olden Days when nobody had to bother with "lighthearted" when a thread was evidently lighthearted. Nobody took everything quite so seriously, even when they would have good reason to.

Posters generally had a decent command of spelling and grammar, too.

Maybe I'm just old and need to take up knitting or something.

These have been done to death. Another week another "good ole days of mumsnet" threat. YABU.

GregoriaTheGreat · 02/10/2019 22:20

That's me told, then, Paper.

I agree, @GregoriaTheGreat

So much stuff (very) recently that's just so different from what it used to be like. Too much text speak, and a lot of 'hun' 'babe' and also the xxx to end posts.

And I know people hate this being pointed out, but it's true to say that there are a lot more posts with really poor SPAG. Which is very different from how it used to be.

I can't bear how people feel that they have to add 'lighthearted' to the titles of their posts, nor the way people write 'f*ck' instead of just writing out the word in full - after all, we all know what you're saying! Just too twee.

But posts/posters like this just get pilloried these days

Dljlr · 02/10/2019 22:29

I miss Bupcakes.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 02/10/2019 22:31

I miss Bupcakes

Oh fuck yes. I wonder if she ever cured that fanjo problem? And ChaosTrulyReigns.

BIWI · 02/10/2019 22:32

Bupcakes? She really showed her true colours on a MN/FB crossover. Not actually a very nice poster at all.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/10/2019 22:32

I will say that recently it's not great.
I don't miss that particular time either though, somewhere in between will suit me fine.

GregoriaTheGreat · 02/10/2019 22:34

Bupcakes!!

Yes. I fell out with her on a thread about 15 years ago. But I'd rather have that than the failure to recognise lightheartedness.

I felt a bit mean mentioning poor SPAG in my OP. But I'm just feeling a bit nostalgic.

Also wonder if SGBReanimated (who has been on here recently) is really SolidGoldBrass?

I think I saw Chaos post recently? Or was that a fever dream?! I flounced after HullyGully and I had a load of our goady posts removed from a thread and when I came back a couple of years later they was all gawn. Another one I liked was UsualSuspect, who flounced, lost her username and had to wear 'side-bollocks' of shame' (the number 8) til MN gave her her name back. Thems were the days...

NoSauce · 02/10/2019 22:35

I agree too. It’s become like the agony aunt page of a low rent magazine. Posters whining about the most ridiculous things, being offended at everything, writing alot and loose instead of lose etc.

Moaning about their poor cow of a MIL or their silly arse SIL, who most of the time haven’t done that much wrong.

It did used to be funny, you could tell someone to fuck off, without being deleted. People were kinder and wiser.

GregoriaTheGreat · 02/10/2019 22:35

I also wonder whether part of it is that I'm missing the time when my DC were both tiny. The two things coincided. An awful lot has moved on then, in MN and IRL...

OP posts:
Dljlr · 02/10/2019 22:37

Not actually a very nice poster at all.

She could be truly awful but she was interesting.

Also miss scottishmummy and her

Sparklingbrook · 02/10/2019 22:37

I miss recognising other posters. At least you knew who to avoid. Grin And who would get what you were trying to say. Those days are long gone. It's all 'lets have a like button' now.

GregoriaTheGreat · 02/10/2019 22:38

Ah well. Even if we are just a few voices, it's nice to know I'm not alone. HullyGully and UsualSuspect are blasts from the past!

Loose/lose. Ugh. Their our other's, two.

I know this keeps being mentioned lately but all this xx

At the end of every fucking post xx

Is making me not want to read the fucking thing xx

PassMeAnotherCoffee · 02/10/2019 22:39

Hmm, the whole Moldies thing made it perfectly clear that you were either in or out. I was going through a quiet period due to difficult family times and I was 'out'. Not so good when you look back on it.

NoSauce · 02/10/2019 22:40

The demographics have changed that’s all.

StealthPolarBear · 02/10/2019 22:40

Yes I'm getting tired of lighthearted threads getting over analysed and your motives questioned. I used to love the silly threads, now they're hard work..
What did bupcakes do?

Sparklingbrook · 02/10/2019 22:41

I think Bupcakes had something to do with a lemon drizzle cake and a pregnant cousin. This was years ago, I can't remember exactly.

AnyFucker · 02/10/2019 22:41

I actually used to enjoy "seeing" people around and having a wee catch up. Never happens now.

Tonight has been shite. The made up bollocks is wrecking this place.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 02/10/2019 22:42

Yes SM and her creepy wee brackets and chaos with the crazy phone

Collision · 02/10/2019 22:42

I miss cod and her terrible terrible typing.....

NoSauce · 02/10/2019 22:42

The preggers and peng cousin story was actually funny from Bupcakes.

ShippingNews · 02/10/2019 22:43

I recently joined a local group for some social interaction, but the existing members seem to spend a lot of time talking about how wonderful the group was "back in the day" when all these fabulous former members made it sizzle.

That's what this thread reminds me of.

Sparklingbrook · 02/10/2019 22:43

Bupcakes cousin's baby must be about 8 by now.
