To mourn MN as it was in the Moulden Days

Admittedly, it was not perfect (full of quiches and Queen Bees). So much so that I gave it a rest for a considerable while. I may even have Flounced at some point (though was not a Mouldie. I would never have been cool enough).

But I now mourn the Olden Days when nobody had to bother with "lighthearted" when a thread was evidently lighthearted. Nobody took everything quite so seriously, even when they would have good reason to.

Posters generally had a decent command of spelling and grammar, too.

Maybe I'm just old and need to take up knitting or something.

Fun, 1999/2000 I think. I joined in 2006.

Dljlr · 02/10/2019 22:59

I never use this on desktop site - is there still a weekly round-up of funny threads? I can't imagine there would be?! (Was it Aitch that did those?)

StealthPolarBear · 02/10/2019 22:59

In fact I can still search and find my very first thread :o

StealthPolarBear · 02/10/2019 22:59

Yes it was an no there isn't

FrownPrincess · 02/10/2019 23:00

I really miss the humour. When I first joined MN, there were often threads that made me laugh. These have now dwindled away to the occasional «lighthearted «offering that rarely has the incisive wit of years ago.

Mumsnet has been taken over by virtue-signallers and the constantly offended.

AnyFucker · 02/10/2019 23:00

Phew

funinthesun19 · 02/10/2019 23:00

Wow! I wonder if there are any posters who have been on here since then...

StealthPolarBear · 02/10/2019 23:01

What the hell do you mean by that FrownPrincess?
:o

Pinkarsedfly · 02/10/2019 23:01

I joined in 2006. Hard to believe.

StealthPolarBear · 02/10/2019 23:01

Wrm
Ragwort was the oldest poster last time we counted.

Pancakeflipper · 02/10/2019 23:02

I don't think LeQueen was that posh - she just bathed in Farrow & Ball paint.

Wasted an entire afternoon once whilst a MNetter spied and reported in full on the policeman vomiting over her fence

AnyFucker · 02/10/2019 23:03

I think it has mostly been taken over by the bullshitters and pervs

Merename · 02/10/2019 23:03

I haven’t been around this long either, maybe 5yrs, and I think it’s a while since I’ve belly laughed too. I like the thought of seeing people around too, there’s probably only a few usernames I would recognise now. Is there any way to get that feel back do you think? Although I wonder if this is just a cyclical thing of thinking the yoof are shit, which happens everywhere.

JellyBook · 02/10/2019 23:04

God I really want to know who was mean to ShirleyPhallus.

WowserBowser · 02/10/2019 23:04

You can still spot LeQueen under a name change. Always popping back up gawd bless er

Pancakeflipper · 02/10/2019 23:05

You forgot the journos Anyfucker.

DameFanny · 02/10/2019 23:05

Thing I can't get over are all the bloody handmaidens right now. Earlier someone put up a post about a controlling abusive new husband who was lovely a full 20% of the time and there were half a dozen "oh was he tired" type responses before anyone said it doesn't have to be this way.

Fuck's sake. Too depressing.

JellyBook · 02/10/2019 23:06

Pagwatch and her beautiful family & dogs & self & house

Dammit

And she was nice

GregoriaTheGreat · 02/10/2019 23:08

PMSL at LeQ bathing in F&B, and at you working for M&S, Pinkarsedfly.

I have been here since my DC were babies and toddlers, so about 2005. A very funny and clever friend mentioned MN to me (she would have been a classic sharp-witted old-timer). I remember reading posts by people who had DC who were 10 or so, and thinking: "fuck me, those children are old".

I think it was Aitch who did the round-ups.

MustardScreams, I could of wrote your post for you xxx

I left about 3 years ago because it was using up too much of my time, and I'll probably have to do the same again soon. I wasn't particularly notable or famous.

What changes I do notice is that its gone very hard left wing and its also gone a bit Stepword Wifey at times - so many posts advising women to run around after men in case the men stray or something. Rather than the more robust advice that used to be more common. Which was actually the reason I joined this site first time round. Lots of women not afraid to stand up for themselves.

WooMaWang · 02/10/2019 23:11

I've been here since 2008 (many namechanges ago) and I miss being easily able to recognize people like you could back then. But that's what happens when something gets more popular and bigger. I think even then there were regular threads about how it had gone to the dogs etc, etc. Those of us who joined 10 years ago were obviously part of The Problem as it seemed to the MN veterans of that period.

Karwomannghia · 02/10/2019 23:12

Yeah leQueen and her everything made to sound profound through italics with a huge following of people dying to agree with her but couldn’t even get the gender of queen. She had stairs off her kitchen as I recall which seemed to upset her.
Remember when people used to announce their flounce? Never see that anymore. It never got much sympathy anyway!

GregoriaTheGreat · 02/10/2019 23:12

Pagwatch! Any other blasts from the past?

I know there's a tendency to think the 'yoof is shit', Merename. And I may just be part of that. And MN certainly was not perfect 15 years ago, any more than it is now. But it was differently imperfect, and I miss that. I also miss my DC being small. I think the two things are combined!

OP posts:
WooMaWang · 02/10/2019 23:14

I was in a quiche though. 😂 the wankers.

And it was nothing to do with penis beakers.

inesj · 02/10/2019 23:15

The demographics have changed such a lot. When I joined (pre Mouldies), it was very London-centric and yes, very cliquey, but funny witty, clever and wise as well. It was so much smaller so it was easier to find your 'tribe'.

The change in tone is just a function of the site becoming bigger and more diverse I suppose.

I too miss the old mumsnet, even though it had (many) downsides.
