I’m so fed up with all this vegan wankery

To all you actual vegans, amazing, I wish you a long and happy life.

I am just so fed up with veganism taking over the world, when I have yet to come across an actual one. *edited to say that some places in the world don’t have a choice

Restaurants falling over themselves with vegan menus offering fake meat and plastic cheese.

Veganuary - people just going to the supermarket and buying fake meat, rather than actually trying to eat differently.

People eating ‘vegan food’. Just eat an apple, or a carrot with houmous or any other naturally occurring food that an animal hasn’t produced. It’s not hard.

And I can’t even begin with all the plant based twattery. Many people have been quietly eating less or no meat, fish, eggs & dairy for many years and have had no need to pontificate about it.

I know I am probably being unreasonable but I just need to say it.

Peter. Thanks and I support your comment too Smile.

GoldenKelpie · 03/10/2019 19:49

Fizzy, from my knowledge of real life vegans (well, I know two for sure) they are like your partner and lovely, non-judgemental people. They do not wish to force me to eat like they do as the loud, voracious, virtue-signalling vegans who use social media at the moment.

GoldenKelpie · 03/10/2019 19:50

Sorry Fizzy just realised you were talking about your ds Shock not partner Grin.

GoldenKelpie · 03/10/2019 19:59

Hi Clay in response to your comment "...even though meat and animal product consumption is a huge contributor to global
warming?*

Apparently the Co2 emissions from animal agriculture outweigh all transport worldwide! Isn't that incredible?"

It is so incredible it isn't true.

Hmm, vegan athletes. It is interesting that their form suffers and they heal from injuries far slower on a vegan diet and the sensible ones soon switch back to omnivore in order to improve their health and regain success.

Your comment "...any of the strongest animals only eat plants, elephants, gorillas, bison etc..."

Um, we do not share the same type of digestive system as those animals! Hardly a sensible comparison then.

Ultimately, please feel free to eat a diet that makes you happy, healthy and complete, whatever that is. Please afford others the same choice without judgement (as most vegans do anyway).

GoldenKelpie · 03/10/2019 20:12

Titania, welcome back to your thread Grin. Your comment "...vegan, as far as I understand is a philosophy that goes beyond food." Yes it is and this is the problem; it is more of a religion than a diet. This means that when a vegan becomes and ex-vegan (for health reasons usually) they become exposed to a particular vitriol from the extreme vegan community. These people are hateful towards vegetarians too.

Google "ex-vegan" on youtube and you will see a huge number of people who have tried desperately to stick to a vegan diet but eventually had to give it up due to the awful health issues (caused by nutrient-deficiencies usually and painful digestive issues).

What is interesting to note when listening to their stories is that they persevered for months and even years, suffering ill-health, because they couldn't come to terms with the fact that the vegan diet wasn't working for them but making them ill. That proves it is more of an ideology/religion. It would be like converting from one religion to another - not a thing to be taken lightly.

Once they decide to reintroduce animal proteins and fats into their diets they cannot believe how well the begin to feel again, and it can be a huge shock.

GoldenKelpie · 03/10/2019 20:17

Hi Clay in response to your comment "why do we feel the need to breed and slaughter innocent and trusting animals just to satisfy our tastebuds?"

It is nothing to do with taste (although animal proteins and fats do taste divine) but eating nutrient-dense food. I only need to eat a couple of times a day and don't need any snacks between those two meals. I save a fortune not buying/eating snacks. It works for me but I would never force anyone else to do it. It should be a free choice.

FizzyIce · 03/10/2019 20:18

@GoldenKelpie ha no worries Grin
Even though some of the stuff he makes looks like vomit (usually lentil bolognese) it actually tastes really good !

GoldenKelpie · 03/10/2019 20:19

Hi Joy in reply to your comment "the YouTube video you posted (by a woman who sells ebooks promoting the magical powers of a “meat-only” diet) is a good example of why you should be discerning in trying to find properly research and resources academic works, not believe everything to read from every crackpot with a YouTube account."

Um, I guess I should just believe all the vegan stuff instead Grin.

GoldenKelpie · 03/10/2019 20:24

There is a very tasty vegan multi-seed cracker recipe that I got from the dietdoctor website that I make to share with a lovely vegan colleague at lunchtimes. Have a look, you and your ds would love them too.

GoldenKelpie · 03/10/2019 20:25

Sorry, that comment's to Fizzy Grin.

FizzyIce · 03/10/2019 21:18

@GoldenKelpie ah fab, thanks I’ll have a look !
I did make him and his girlfriend a vegan banana bread and tbh ,it tasted absolutely no different to normal banana bread so I’ll try these when he’s home next and I’m sure he’ll be impressed

FizzyIce · 03/10/2019 21:19

as in impressed because I’m a shite cook unless it’s stuff I’ve done 100 times ! Blush

@Goldenkelpie yes, it is.

This comes from a documentary which took figures from a United Nations food and agriculture report on livestock farming which was cross referenced with global greenhouse gas emissions data from the environmental protection agency.

You can find sources and references listed here:
www.cowspiracy.com/facts

Feel free to provide your own reputable sources to challenge that statement (and by reputable I don't mean random YouTubers, which seems to be your main source of information so far).

TitaniaQueenOfTheFairies · 03/10/2019 22:42

Titania, welcome back to your thread Grin

@GoldenKelpie thank you

Conspiracy was debunked ages ago! It's quite literally, tripe Grin.

Ziraphale · 03/10/2019 22:55

No, sorry, you're going to have to do better than that, @Goldenkelpie.

Even if you don't personally like some aspects of the documentary, or think its biased, they do clearly show where they get sources for their claims.

For that particular claim they've clearly referenced reputable sources to back it up, namely the United Nations and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Come up with better sources of your own please or admit that you're just dismissing everything that doesn't suit your personal narrative.

I was referring to your comment about us needing meat for 'strength' 😁

Clayplease · 03/10/2019 23:22

@Ziraphale Thanks again for your excellent (well researched) clear responses.

You must be very short of time if you have to put nutrient dense food ahead of all else!

Incidentally, out of the 11 most nutrient dense foods, guess what, 6 are vegan! Here you go, don't say I never give you anything 😁

Salmon
Kale
Seaweed
Garlic
Shellfish
Potatoes (!)
Liver
Sardines
Blueberries
Egg yolks
Dark chocolate.

@AryaStarkWolf
It looks more like you're responding point by point

Ever heard of IRL?
If a mouthy vegan came up to me at a shop or cafe I'd ignore and eat my burger like it's the most orgasmic burger in the world and the mouthy vegan ain't even there. Which to many would be worse than me mouthing off back
Forums? Whole different kettle of fish, I respond then decide if I can be assed coming back.

Underdone · 04/10/2019 04:03

And how many times does that happen @squeekums? Just out of interest? 🤣. These 'mouthy vegans' of whom you speak? They don't exist do they?

But gosh, triggered much? The only vitriol on this thread is directed at people who are trying to do less harm. How weird is that?

Generally, people become vegan after a lot of soul searching and research. We've read the peer reviewed, non-biased evidence (not just studies paid for by the meat and dairy industry peddled as science) and watched the videos. And after all that have taken the decision that all things considered animal agriculture should be consigned to history.

The reason so many people are going plant based is because the evidence is overwhelming that it's the right thing to do. For the environment, for our health and for the animals.

So let's give a big cheer for all this vegan wankery. It's called progress!

Ziraphale · 04/10/2019 06:31

@Clayplease likewise. You're doing an amazing job in the face of some proper insanity here
