To ask how you announced your pregnancy to your parents?

We're telling my parents we're expecting this weekend. I'll be 9+1, but it's the last time we'll all be together before Christmas as my dad works away a lot and my husband travels for work. This will be their first grandchild, so I would like to make the announcement memorable... But not tacky.

OP posts:
ncqtime · 29/09/2019 21:34

Sent them a WhatsApp of my scan/ showed them the bump and said 'surprise'

Pipandmum · 29/09/2019 21:36

We announced our engagement at Christmas and the following Christmas announced our pregnancy. Nothing special about how we told them just said we had something to tell everyone!

Worrier1234 · 29/09/2019 21:38

We gave them a gift bag each when we were away together on a short break - one had a wrapped up bib and the other a bodysuit. One said 'I love my Nanny' and the other 'I love my Grandad' - they worked it out from there!

hammeringinmyhead · 29/09/2019 21:40

My mum and dad came down for the weekend and my dad said he'd brought a nice bottle of wine to go with the meal I'd cooked. I said "Oh, I won't be helping you with that," and whipped out the scan photo.

It was MiL's birthday and we handed her a "nan" card. She went all pale, opened it and there was the scan photo.

ineedanotherholiday · 29/09/2019 21:40

We just said we'd been shopping and showed them a baby grow which got them a bit confused and them showed them the scan pic.

Mintypea5 · 29/09/2019 21:41

DS1 just went round for a visit and said by the way I'm pregnant (showed them scan)

DS2 told them Xmas eve because we had our scan a couple of days before. My grandparents were there too so seemed easier to tell them all together

DS3 text with scan picture

MaryShelley1818 · 29/09/2019 21:41

I don’t understand why you need to “announce” to your parents.
Both me and DH just told our parents when we were together. I think the news is probably exciting enough for them - congratulations :)

Newmumma83 · 29/09/2019 21:42

My dads birthday we got him a grandad card .... he didn’t get it he thought it was from our cats ( to be fair we are that dappy over the cats ) mum figured it out first and burst into ( happy tears ) we cleave Easter card from the grandchild to other half’s parents ... exact same response 🙄 x

Ohyesiam · 29/09/2019 21:44

I just opened my mouth and said it. They couldn’t have been more thrilled.

TheDarkPassenger · 29/09/2019 21:44

I texted my mam and said ‘I think I’m pregnant’ and she said ‘why do you think that’ and I said ‘because I’ve got a positive test in my hand’

Seeingadistance · 29/09/2019 21:45

Just tell them!

No need for any kind of special performance to make the news of a grandchild memorable!

lazylinguist · 29/09/2019 21:46

Just told them. It's the news that's exciting, not the method of announcing it. I can't imagine you will need to make it memorable- how could it not be?

ChrisPrattsFace · 29/09/2019 21:47

FaceTimed my mum and showed her the scan.... she squinted for five minutes then figured it out.
We’re not ‘announcers’ so it was just basically a phone call with a picture to show them!

Butchyrestingface · 29/09/2019 21:48

Surely the words “Mum, dad, I’m pregnant” will be happy news for them? Why do you need to try to make it “memorable”?

FluffyEarMuffs · 29/09/2019 21:48

No need to make it naff. Just tell them.
No secret baby bro buying or scan photos of naff grandparent cards before the baby is even born. Just tell them.

AppleKatie · 29/09/2019 21:50

Went round for dinner and told them we had something to tell them 😃

Dyrne · 29/09/2019 21:50

God forbid the OP shows the slightest bit of excitement over her pregnancy and sharing the news Hmm

As it’s the last time you’ll see your Dad this side of Christmas OP i’d go with getting him an “early Christmas card” that says “to Grandad” or similar on it - not too twee but still a nice way of doing it.

Icecreamsoda99 · 29/09/2019 21:51

I got them to pose for a picture and told them to say "Icecreamsoda99 is pregnant" instead of "cheese", my mum broke down in tears! I was filming it and the video still makes me smile!

ifoundthebread · 29/09/2019 21:54

Group picture, said after 3 say cheese. 1,2,3 I'm pregnant, tried to the reaction in a picture but turned out blurry. Didn't think to video it 😂

hammeringinmyhead · 29/09/2019 21:54

Thanks for calling my story "naff". Jesus.

QueenWhatevraWanabi · 29/09/2019 21:54

They were dead so didn't need to

katmarie · 29/09/2019 21:56

First one, a picture of the scan in a card for them. Second one, I got a big brother tshirt for ds, and took him to lunch with them wearing it. They were thrilled both times.

QueenWhatevraWanabi · 29/09/2019 21:57

@Icecreamsoda99 yours is cute

Kristajoy86 · 29/09/2019 22:00

The first time was at Christmas. We were down to bring crackers so we made our own and put the announcement inside. Nobody noticed so the second time we put DD in a 'big sister' T-shirt. Again nobody noticed until we asked if they'd seen her 'new shirt'. If there was a next time I'd hire a sky writer!

thaegumathteth · 29/09/2019 22:01

Ds I told mum when I was driving home from work one day at about 14 weeks . Don't see mum and dad more than 3/4 times a year so didn't have to hide anything.

Dd I honestly cannot remember telling them Confused
