"Nobody NEEDS a second home or tons of investments or to hoard wealth. Equality of opportunity means equal distribution of assets and yes, it absolutely should be controlled how much personal wealth people can amass. Do I necessarily trust the government to do the right thing with it? No. But I would like to see an end to unregulated capitalism" absolutely!!

Posters are focusing on the negatives for the privileged and wealthy - they are able to mitigate any negatives BECAUSE they are privileged and wealthy.

A healthy, well functioning society is created NOT by providing the privileged and wealthy with what they need but by ensuring those who are poor and disenfranchised are cared for and protected.

It certainly is making me view certain posters a certain way that they are clearly stating they DON'T want a govt that will improve things for the poorest, sickest and most disadvantaged in our society, because sure as shit the tories NEVER HAVE AND NEVER WILL do this.

I am a disabled single mum on benefits with a disabled dd, the last almost 10 years have been HORRIFIC for us! (And anyone familiar with my posting history will no I am not a particular new Labour fan either but they weren't as bad as these true tories!).

My situation currently is that I am housebound because of my health (mainly due to OCD), I've had NO support from mental health services in almost 6 months even though I am supposed to, I've not even had an explanation as to why. My income in real terms has not only not kept up with inflation it's dropped! And that's before I'm transferred to the dreaded UC. I've already had to find an alternative to one of my meds because of brexit, it's a recent change so I don't yet know if it will work. I'm in the process of being transferred from DLA to pip and I am worried sick that won't go smoothly as there's been huge issues for mentally ill claimants (well all claimants really but for certain "invisible" conditions it's been particularly problematic). Dd is awaiting a specialist appointment herself that has already been postponed twice. She's also had issues with meds.

We've been homeless twice in that time and it was only with the intervention of shelter that the council did what they are supposed to.

But hey, what's important is that people hold on to holiday homes and private education 🤔

BogglesGoggles - you are an unashamed right wing tory on MANY posts on mn - but you failed to mention THAT pertinent fact in your ridiculous post! If ANYONE is acting like a totalitarian its fucking Johnson! Who thinks he's above the bloody law and won't even listen to his own mps!

"expect to take what the government lets you have and shut up." THAT is the situation we're in now!!

Wow miaowing and cendriillion so you're basically honestly saying you don't give a flying fuck for those worse off than you! Long as you get to keep "your" money and privilege!

"Yes we have a 35 hour working week, brought in by the Socialists back in the early 2000s." And has it completely screwed your economy? Not as far as I can see.

"There’s a reason the Tories are so desperate to get out of the EU by the end of the year, and it’s all about helping their rich friends with their tax." Absolutely

reginafelangee · 27/09/2019 14:58

He is a racist and an anti-semite and he hangs out with terrorists.

Do I really need to add anything else?

BertrandRussell · 27/09/2019 15:01

“He is a racist and an anti-semite and he hangs out with terrorists.”

Whereas Boris Johnson........?

virginpinkmartini · 27/09/2019 15:01

His absolute fixation on giving other people's shit away

reginafelangee · 27/09/2019 15:03

*“He is a racist and an anti-semite and he hangs out with terrorists.”

Whereas Boris Johnson........?*

The thread asked about Corbyn.

But seeing as you are asking - I am no fan of Boris either. Boorish and frequently offensive.

Saucery · 27/09/2019 15:05

I'm not taking a drop in income from a man who is worth 3 million. He's a hypocrite.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 27/09/2019 15:07

There’s a reason the Tories are so desperate to get out of the EU by the end of the year, and it’s all about helping their rich friends with their tax.

Tories' position on Brexit is crap, but is Labour is not Reman as well, the best they are Pro Fudge.

NewarkShark · 27/09/2019 15:11

I don’t fancy having an IRA sympathiser in charge

This. Or an anti-Semite.

I think he generally has no idea about national security, which concerns me because the global political climate is terrifying. I do not trust him at all to take sensible decisions to keep the country safe.

Symptomless · 27/09/2019 15:11

Bring on labour government! I will also accept snp government, greens or lib dems. Coalitions of any of the above!

tryingoutgreyhair · 27/09/2019 15:12

People are incorrect assuming that parents of private school pupils wouldn't have voted labour anyway. They have certainly lost my vote over it so that's at least one. Though there are many many more of their ridiculous policies I disagree with.

There are plenty of public sector working parents (academics, nhs workers etc) like me who are not tories at heart who educate their kids privately and these are parents who don't have loads of spare cash for fee hikes even if they are not abolished.

I think labour are unelectable these days. Which is lucky for BoJo and pals because a decent moderate opposition could have really shown them up recently, I worry about the Lib Dems and how they would handle their position in a hung parliament. So after years of bickering with my mother over her politics I might find myself voting Tory this time. I bet I'm not alone in this turn of thinking.

BertrandRussell · 27/09/2019 15:13

“I do not trust him at all to take sensible decisions to keep the country safe.”

I’d trust him to have at least reD his briefing papers. Johnson, on the other hand.
Wanting a united ireland does not make you an IRA supporter, by the way.

NewarkShark · 27/09/2019 15:14

I also am a former labour member who might send my child to private school (pre-school age at the mo) whose vote they have lost. Actually they lost if for other reasons first, but I would have refused to vote for them on this alone.

It’s so maddening that at this time when we need a credible opposition more than ever we have that unelectable imbecile in charge.

NewarkShark · 27/09/2019 15:16

bertrandrussell

When have you ever seen me stick up for Boris Johnson? I would never vote for him. He’s evil.

And I don’t believe Jeremy Corbyn’s views on Ireland go no further than wanting a united ireland. He’s got John McDonnell as his close ally which is unforgivable given the views he has expressed. I don’t doubt JC shares them.

noblegiraffe · 27/09/2019 15:19

National security - remember when Corbyn wanted us to give Russia a sample of the Skripal nerve agent so they could tell us if it was theirs?

tryingoutgreyhair · 27/09/2019 15:25

Also I don't trust this current Labour Party at all policy wise. Looking at the recent party conference when they know they might be heading into an election and they come up with loads of outlandish rubbish. Imagine what further nonsense they could dream up in the middle of a term in government with two plus years until another election

Shudders

PegasusReturns · 27/09/2019 15:34

Corbyn and Bromentum appear to hate women more than most. The libelling of WPUK in Brighton earlier this week was one of the most disturbing things I've seen occur.

There is not a chance of me supporting labour.

timshelthechoice · 27/09/2019 15:45

I'll be very specific about what I think would be bad about it: Jeremy Corbyn.

But fear not, there won't be a Labour government with that sleekit yin at the helm.

Nat6999 · 27/09/2019 15:51

I've just been reading about the Finland school system that Jeremy Corbyn had been talking about, their school system is so good that there isn't a need for private schools. The education system there doesn't have school inspections, no national assessments like SATS & pupils don't do any public exams until they are 18. Behaviour in schools is excellent, there aren't many exclusions & the school I read about hasn't had to give a detention for over 15 years. Pupils are nurtured & supported to bring out their best qualities, teaching is of a high quality, mental health is a major interest & the rates of pupils needing extra support for mental health is much lower than in the UK. Children don't start school until they are 6 starting with a compulsory year in nursery, yet their attainment scores at 18 are much higher than here. The education system is envied worldwide & visitors have to pay a fee to go round the schools, this doesn't stop many countries wanting to visit to see for themselves. This is what we should be aiming for, not looking at what we can provide for the lowest cost possible.

EileenAlanna · 27/09/2019 15:51

He can't tell the difference between a woman & a man. No-one that stupid can be allowed to run a bath never mind a country. I won't be voting for any candidate/Party that can't grasp basic biology.

firstimemamma · 27/09/2019 16:00

There would still be endless amounts of plastic packaging churned out everywhere! Then again I guess the same would be true under any govt (except green).

Oliversmumsarmy · 27/09/2019 16:02

Equality of opportunity means equal distribution of assets and yes, it absolutely should be controlled how much personal wealth people can amass

So why would anybody do anything if everyone is equal.

Why should I put the hours in on my business if anything I make over a certain amount is taken away.

I would just not bother.

Why can’t I become wealthy if I have worked hard for it.

Why do I have to have someone telling me I have to hand over virtually everything over a certain amount so they can choose where to spend my money.

MustardScreams

Yes it might have been 50 years ago but it doesn’t stop history repeating itself.

Big business will always find a way to get round tax bills.

And over taxing a group of people who pay the most tax anyway is a sure fire way of making all the money they did pay in disappear

Remember these are the policies that were around when Corbyn was a young man

noblegiraffe · 27/09/2019 16:03

I've just been reading about the Finland school system that Jeremy Corbyn had been talking about, their school system is so good that there isn't a need for private schools.

Finland has plenty of private schools.
Finland is not a great school system that should be emulated, Finland used to be, but they made lots of changes to the curriculum and now it’s falling badly in the rankings. If Corbyn is talking about Finland, he’s really out of date.

WeshMaGueule · 27/09/2019 16:04

Class size in my five-year-old's state school in France is twelve. Because it's a political priority. Don't tell me it can't be done in the UK.

AnneElliott · 27/09/2019 16:11

Local Authorities already have powers to bring into use unoccupied properties and rent them out to people who need homes. So the policy announced by Labour is likely to be different/an extension of this as the powers are already there.

There may well be reasons why local authorities are not using them.

FuzzyPuffling · 27/09/2019 16:25

Regarding scholarships to private schools; I got one of these, a full scholarship to a girls' "posh" school. Where I was bullied for not being posh enough, not living the right side of town, not having skiing holidays or foreign holidays, not owning a horse.....

It caused me no end of stress at the time (years of it) and I suspect ongoing issues of self esteem, confidence and depression for life.

Many years later my mum confessed that it hadn't been the right school for me, but it was such a "honour" at the time.

Bit of a tangent, but certainly not the answer for me.
