General Election tomorrow question

bridgetreilly · 26/09/2019 19:32

So, I did the MN survey and was a bit stumped by the question about who I would vote for if there was an election tomorrow. Like, at the moment, it's hard to remember whether we've still got a government from one day to the next. I know who I normally vote for but right now? Who knows! I'm not sure the results from that question will be all that representative of Mumsnetters normal political preferences.

Labour, somewhat reluctantly. I've always had a healthy suspicion of anyone who votes Tory & so far it's paid off. Awful party, awful people, awful policies, supported by the thick & self serving.

AnnaFiveTowns · 27/09/2019 00:32

Labour or lib dem

Seren85 · 27/09/2019 00:37

Labour, as usual. Not perfect and not a huge JC fan but better than this shower of shite. Won't matter a jot given where I've though.

minesagin37 · 27/09/2019 00:48

@LoveSatsumas I would argue that you are not as educated as you think you are!

minesagin37 · 27/09/2019 00:53

@crispysausagerolls their socioeconomic policies will only benefit the rich elite. Are you the rich elite? If not then I'm genuinely confused.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 27/09/2019 00:54

Labour, and I like JC.

Jasmin82 · 27/09/2019 01:12

Green or Labour if it looks like the Tories might overturn the majority held by our very good Labour MP (safe seat with a majority of 30K so highly unlikely).

PizzaCrunch · 27/09/2019 01:19

Probably SNP. I always said I never would but they are the second strongest party in my constituency therefore most likely to win the seat from the Tories.

Ideally I'd vote Green though.

Elodie2019 · 27/09/2019 05:53

LibDen or Labour.
BJ, Mogg and Gove are horrific.

Not the words I would use, but economically yes, both our and our families either side are benefitting by their policies. If Corbyn got in we would genuinely leave.

Moon108 · 27/09/2019 06:53

Would vote Tory 100 percent

Chocolatelover45 · 27/09/2019 07:29

Poor people vote tory because it makes them feel middle class/they hope to be rich one day. Unfortunately it has the opposite effect

crispysausagerolls · 27/09/2019 07:31

Chocolatelover45

Maybe, but maybe people have ideals regardless of their financial status. Eg you could be poor but believe generally in the principle that working hard should be rewarded, and therefore align yourself with the Tories.

Moon108 · 27/09/2019 07:31

No... that’s not why I vote Tory. They are the only ones that can get us out of the eu! And who would want Corbyn as PM? Not even labour voters want that Grin

The other options don’t have a chance. I’m in a Tory safe seat anyway.

Iggly · 27/09/2019 07:33

I don’t want us to pay more tax than we already do

More tax needs to fall on investments and other capital gains - then the majority of people wouldn’t have to foot such a disproportionate bill.

At the end of the day, even those who are rich and pay for their own education benefit from living in a civilised society and should pay for that privilege.

Bazie · 27/09/2019 07:41

Boris all the way. He's not afraid to upset people by saying what's needed to be said. He did loads for London as mayor. No way Corbyn. He's a creep. Wouldn't trust him to look after my goldfish let alone the country.
Not entirely sure why Scotland gets to have a say in our parliament.... We don't in theirs. Lib dems, never had a back bone. My understanding is that if you vote for them, you're o e of those who'll sit on the fence rather than have an opinion so as not to upset anyone.
At the end of the day, the majority of people voted to leave. Lets just get on with it, deal or not. The world is bigger than Europe. Remainers need to stop having a paddy pants cos they didn't get their own way. What are they teaching their children?? If you don't get your own way, scream and shout until you do?
Boris was voted into No. 10. Let him do his job. Whatever happens, whoever is PM, can't please everyone..

crispysausagerolls · 27/09/2019 07:49

At the end of the day, even those who are rich and pay for their own education benefit from living in a civilised society and should pay for that privilege

Pay 67%? Come on

ViaSacra · 27/09/2019 07:52

could you explain what you are terrified of because your opinion genuinely baffles me. Is it the anti-semitism smears?

How f*ing dare you call them ‘smears’?

Are you in the habit of dismissing racism against other minorities too, or just against Jewish people?

You are an antisemite. And the sad thing is, you won’t even realise that because you think being on the left gives you a special status of ‘antiracist’ even though you are a huge effing racist.

Chatt3rb0x · 27/09/2019 07:54

Lib Dem

Biker47 · 27/09/2019 07:56

Conservative or Brexit Party if they field a candidte.

Biker47 · 27/09/2019 07:57

*candidate

ViaSacra · 27/09/2019 07:57

Those saying lib dem surely realise they can't win an election under for. They would need to have a massive majority to do that and there are so many seats that are staunch labour/conservatives that won't change

And on your other point, I vote Lib Dem.

Why should I choose Tory or Labour when I despise both equally?

Both have policies that would cause huge damage to the British economy and our society as a whole.

By voting Lib Dem, I aim to ensure that neither is able to gain a majority, and thus can’t implement even half of the policies they’re spouting off about.

Do you seriously think any of the policies Labour was passing at conference this week will ever get implemented? Of course not - they’d need at least a 50-100 seat majority to get them through the Commons, and we all know they’re never going to get that Smile.

Voting Lib Dem is my way of contributing to that.

Chocolatelover45 · 27/09/2019 07:57

@crispsausagerolls
Tory policies are designed to keep the poor poor, you can work as hard as you want in a minimum wage job and you will still be poor. Under the tories the disabled and people on the lowest incomes are worse off. At the same time education and the NHS are going downhill.
Labour's policies aim to enable a more level playing field. This actually benefits the middle class as well, most of whom rely on state services. Who wants to live in a crime ridden society with homeless people everywhere, even if you are a few quid better off yourself?
Your post suggests that we are all born equal and hard work is the only reason some are better off. This is a load of rubbish.

Iggly · 27/09/2019 07:58

Pay 67%? Come on

Its not 67% on total income - and I can’t actually find any mention of this in their manifesto - which isn’t yet published.

I think more tax needs paying on investment income anyway - capital gains etc.

ViaSacra · 27/09/2019 07:59

Labour's policies aim to enable a more level playing field

You could argue that. But they don’t want to do it by uplifting the most vulnerable - instead they want to drag everyone down to the same level.

No thanks.
