General Election tomorrow question

bridgetreilly · 26/09/2019 19:32

So, I did the MN survey and was a bit stumped by the question about who I would vote for if there was an election tomorrow. Like, at the moment, it's hard to remember whether we've still got a government from one day to the next. I know who I normally vote for but right now? Who knows! I'm not sure the results from that question will be all that representative of Mumsnetters normal political preferences.

Wondering what the Tories have achieved for ordinary people and communities over the last ten years.

The UK is an international laughing stock.

Davros · 26/09/2019 21:29

What about the LibDems thinking there's no such thing as "woman"?!

Elodie2019 · 26/09/2019 21:34

Tory, purely because of Boris. BTW, I'm an educated, 60ish, female.

HmmBoris himself was educated at very prestigious schools so one could say he's very well educated. Counts for nothing clearly.

DivisionBelles · 26/09/2019 21:36

Tactical LibDem

FloresTorres · 26/09/2019 21:36

Labour.
Rosie Cooper. Excellent MP in a Leave area, diligently working for all constituents in the face of a thwarted conspiracy to murder her by the extreme right.
Can't abide Corbyn, but Rosie will get my vote regardless..
If she decides not to stand again, then I'll vote Independent or Lib Dem.

Elodie2019

Maybe the poster is Boris, albeit in the crafty disguise of a woman?

curlykaren · 26/09/2019 21:39

Iggly,
I often also think that there is some kind of subliminal class (underclass) mentality that associates a 'toff' with being innately more capable of running a government. Despite an abundance of proof to the contrary. I just don't get it, I'm genuinely not trying to be goady or rude to anybody, I don't understand Confused

Outsomnia · 26/09/2019 21:46

Sad thing is, if Momentum were not clones of the ERG it would be Labour all the way for me. But I cannot vote for someone who is being run by an internal cabal of Marxists.

Same applies to the Tories, all this posturing is to keep the ERG onside aswell.

Must be LDs so, but I am not happy about their stance on women. But I reckon that will soften in the days to come anyway, or people will just ignore it and take the least worst option.

And it has come to this pass. The least worst option. What a great fkn country we are!

Limitedsimba123 · 26/09/2019 21:47

If the Torys had selected Rory Stewart I would be voting Tory myself, but the fact that undermining separation of powers is even being discussed as a possibility is a complete deal breaker for me. The pressure to do so will only increase, and of course the less educated of his supporters (who may not understand the importance of separation of powers) will lap it up. Jo Maugham has already threatened further legal action if Johnson tries to get round the Benn Bill. Johnson (and his backers) have got 8 billion riding on this remember, which was pretty much confirmed by his sister earlier today, and he has already shown that he does not care one jot about the rule of law.

MissGiddyPants · 26/09/2019 21:47

The echo chamber that is MN.

Skyejuly · 26/09/2019 21:50

Green.

BumbleBeee69 · 26/09/2019 21:50

Conservative

ForalltheSaints · 26/09/2019 21:50

Greens unless I think the Lib Dems have a chance of ousting my MP who is an ardent Brexiteer and has voted three times against the withdrawal agreement. I cannot support Labour given the inaction against anti-semitic comments.

Mr Johnson leads a party that is Conservative in name only in my view, given his behaviour.

Iggly · 26/09/2019 21:52

internal cabal of Marxists

What exact Marxist policies can you point to please.

GettingABitDesperateNow · 26/09/2019 21:53

Lib dem I think.

I cant vote Tory because of Boris, and because I cant vote for any party that thinks its acceptable to piss all over the human rights of the vulnerable eg disabled, I think it's a disgrace that suicides for people on disability benefits are skyrocketing and the people deciding who gets PIP for example seem to be on bonuses based on denying payments and dont have any medical training. I think they are letting down everyone who needs them most.

I feel I cant vote labour because although some of the ideas come from the right place eg from wanting things to be fair, in reality they are not practical and JC can never seem to actually explain how it would work or be funded. There is such a shortfall in care for old people for example that if you raised high earners tax enough to cover it, they would move abroad / go self employed and get paid from offshore etc and it would backfire. I see where he is coming from but I'm a pragmatist and I cant see his policies working in practice. Or him ever being voted in.

So lib dem it is

Morado · 26/09/2019 21:55

Ugh... My stomach turns whenever I see people saying they'd vote tory. Angry

Outsomnia · 26/09/2019 21:59

Iggly,

The talk of banning private education,

Tenants being able to buy their rented property from LLs

And so on. All pie in the sky nonsense, but the message I am getting is this is what they want, bring everyone down to their own level, and stop people getting ahead if they wish to.

It's all blx anyway. And everyone knows it. That is why Momentum is a dangerous cabal. Corbyn has not sacked any of them, so he is one of them also.

As I said, the Tories also have the foil for Momentum, yes the ERG, and the same applies there for sure too.

Frightening that we have two internal cabals running the show.

We need a middle ground. And everyone knows this too, but nada is happening. FPTP is their winning ground over LD and so on. Honestly.

The echo chamber that is Mumsnet

What about this thread makes Mumsnet sound like an echo chamber?

Norugratsatall · 26/09/2019 22:01

Lib Dem...without a shadow of a doubt (former Tory voter).

silveryleaf · 26/09/2019 22:02

People voted for Brexit. How could that be seen as pragmatic? How could a deal be envisaged? People are sold on a dream. At least Labour's dreams are ones I like the look of. They're good things to aim for and why not, considering the current climate?

Frazzled2207 · 26/09/2019 22:06

Lib Dem. But it's a Lib Dem vs Tory race round here. Otherwise probably Labour.

I get why people might be generally Tory voters but am so concerned that people would actually vote for Boris.

Iggly · 26/09/2019 22:07

@Outsomnia

Do you know what Marxism is?

Chocolatehat · 26/09/2019 22:11

Conservatives. Rather posh arseholes, than Anti-Semitic, misogynistic, terrorist sympathisers.
