General Election tomorrow question

bridgetreilly · 26/09/2019 19:32

So, I did the MN survey and was a bit stumped by the question about who I would vote for if there was an election tomorrow. Like, at the moment, it's hard to remember whether we've still got a government from one day to the next. I know who I normally vote for but right now? Who knows! I'm not sure the results from that question will be all that representative of Mumsnetters normal political preferences.

@RatherBeAScummerThanASkate

"I don’t understand how anyone could vote Tory particularly if you are, or know anyone who is disabled or poor or female."
Serious question - what's the issue with being female and voting Tory?

Limitedsimba123 · 26/09/2019 20:51

@LoveSatsumas so as an educated, 60ish, female, you don’t have any concerns about the calls from Tories to abolish the independent Judiciary?

crispysausagerolls · 26/09/2019 20:53

Conservative.

It’s amusing to me that people are shocked and demand reasons why people might vote Tory, without understanding that that is exactly how Tory voters will feel about how anyone could vote for JC.

silveryleaf · 26/09/2019 20:55

Labour. Loved Jeremy Corbyn's recent speech. The end of austerity, money actually put into public services, free higher education, fair wages, free care for the elderly who need it, an end to zero hours contracts, investing in green energy, having the super rich pay a fair amount of tax. What's not to like about all that?

Conservatives will have to do a deal with Brexit party and their policies beyond leaving the EU are even more horrific than leaving. Disaster capitalists.

Mark my words.

NewStart571 · 26/09/2019 21:02

I’m not ‘demanding answers’. However it is notable that you haven’t provided any justification regarding what policies you agree with other than a reference to disliking Jeremy Corbin. Hmm

I just find it difficult to understand what exactly people like about the conservatives. I’m happy to listen to any insight people can give.

curlykaren · 26/09/2019 21:02

I'm another one who can't wrap my head around anyone, barring landed gentry, voting conservative. They simply do not have or pursue policies that better the lives of normal people. If you have to use a GP or NHS hospital, send a kid to state school or work for someone else, they do not represent a betterment of your life.

onlyconnect · 26/09/2019 21:03

Lib Dem even though where I live it's a wasted vote.

Paperdove87 · 26/09/2019 21:07

Labour. Really like my local MP and he's in a key swing seat as well so every vote counts. Really don't like Corbyn and wish he wasn't leader.

I don’t want us to pay more tax than we already do and I don’t want someone who will try to abolish private schools. Those are the first two which spring to mind, unpopular though I am sure they will be!

I’ve read somewhere that it’s because these people cannot abide the idea of someone “beneath” them getting something - even if that means they themselves would also benefit.

Imnotthrowingawaymyshot · 26/09/2019 21:11

Cendrilon that's hillarous.. And with the loud inhaler..

Thank you 🤣🤣😂😂😂

Limitedsimba123 · 26/09/2019 21:13

Crispysausagerolls seeing as you are the only Tory voter responding, do you have any concerns about Tory mp’s suggesting independent Judiciary should be abolished?

crispysausagerolls · 26/09/2019 21:17

Limitedsimba123

Of course I do - but it’s so absurd it’s one of those things I just don’t see happening. These moronic things never really pan out (except for the Brexit vote...)

Voting Tory doesn’t mean I necessarily even LIKE the people up for the top job, or support them 100%. I mean fields of fucking wheat and the fox hunting and picking on the elderly?! What was that clusterfuck about?

But as a party most of their socioeconomic policies correspond with ours as a family, in a way that other parties do not.

silveryleaf · 26/09/2019 21:18

I think both those things are good if it means public services are properly funded. Health care costs for health crises can bankrupt people in other countries. In America there are diabetics who cannot afford their insulin. in reality, under Labour, it is only that the super rich that will cease to have the unfair tax breaks they have had since the Conservatives have been in power. If private schools are abolished maybe people would actually invest in our state schools to the good of everybody not just the privileged few.

IsoscelesSandwich · 26/09/2019 21:20

Green. You’d have to be bonkers to vote Tory.

NewStart571 · 26/09/2019 21:21

@crispysausagerolls - thanks for taking the time to reply! Smile

BarbariansMum · 26/09/2019 21:23

Lib dems here too. Wouldn't piss on the Tories if they were on fire, at this current point in time.
