How would you feel if you received this email?

SamCam349 · 20/09/2019 00:49

Is this (below) a nice email to receive? What would you think of the sender who wrote it??

‘I will reluctantly speak to you next Tuesday to attempt to address your discriminatory actions. As I mentioned last week, I, personally, do not consider you to be that important, and I would not be entertaining this call were your manager not also be participating.’

OP posts:
IAmALazyArse · 22/09/2019 08:47

I don't know what's more entertaining.
The frustration from lack of info or the posts after people haven't RTFT😂

Butchyrestingface · 22/09/2019 08:56

Were you the recipient of the email, @urkidding?

If so, do go on. We’re all chomping at the bit here. Grin

Tilltheendoftheline · 22/09/2019 09:11

@urkidding op wrote it.

And where has Race come into it?

This thread is quite funny.

And a prime example of why you should read the thread.

MRex · 22/09/2019 09:22

At this stage I'll take anybody's explanation, even if they have to make it up.

GoFiguire · 22/09/2019 09:22

Sam Cam wrote the email to Boris Johnson. She has subsequently been fired from the Conservative Party.

If this is the case, OP is NBU.

GoFiguire · 22/09/2019 09:23

OP is hiding in plain sight.

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/09/2019 09:25

Pity Bozo wasn’t sacked instead....

Whitegrenache · 22/09/2019 09:29

@GoFiguire spot on - it's definitely a piss take about brexit

LakieLady · 22/09/2019 09:35

Possibly the mos frustrating thread EVER!

I have RSI in my scrolling finger from trying to find out wtf had sparked the (most unwise) email, and am still none the wiser.

That's 5 whole minutes of my life I'll never get back ...

Butchyrestingface · 22/09/2019 10:46

Possibly the mos frustrating thread EVER

You must have missed Boswell. Wink

stormsurfer · 22/09/2019 10:59

Because the OP asked how the message would make the recipient feel, perhaps OP genuinely meant well, but has had trouble with expressing that. It sounds like they have tried to be business like, but have failed. Perhaps English is not their first language?

I will reluctantly speak to you next Tuesday

What if OP is friends with the person who has been discriminatory? And therefore is reluctant to speak to them and finds the situation awkward?

personally, do not consider you to be that important

What if a bit is missing? Eg" I, personally, do not consider your mistake to be that important"

and I would not be entertaining this call were your manager not also be participating

Again, sounding like the matter would be left unaddressed if it were up to them.

The message could then be interpreted as trying to tell the recipient they are on their side.

The trouble is, that then becomes a very unprofessional message to send and shows that they are not capable of being in a more responsible post and following management procedure.

OccidentalPurist · 22/09/2019 11:24

Stormsurfer you might have a point there.

SamCam349* is this what has happened??

MuchBetterNow · 22/09/2019 11:35

I can't imagine the op will be back. Assuming this is all real she will be in a very dark place at the moment, getting pulled apart on here isn't going to help.

HeronLanyon · 22/09/2019 11:44

S/He’s also had a lot of good advice and offers of help from employment law experienced bods if s/he would only explain a little of the frankly bewilderingly mystifying posts.

Cannotresist · 22/09/2019 12:00

In the very unlikely event this is true it sounds like

OP was asked to do something she didn’t like so viewed the asker as being discriminatory. ( was probably just a rubbish task and OP felt beneath her as her hopes for the job are not being met eg she doesn’t want to photocopy she wants to be in board meetings) Asker is probably slightly more senior.

At some point op and asker have then had a discussion about either her not doing work/ it being beneath her and fallen out. Op has said she doesn’t rate other person/ been rude.

Management get involved in an eye rolling ffs children kind of way. Discussion is had about how op is useless but they are worried she will cause more trouble. person offers to meet op with manager - this leads to op sending mail never thinking it would be passed on to management / or thinking she was justified as wronged ( when she probably hasn’t been but is a snowflake in the true meaning ie cannot manage being viewed as a dogsbody rather than an exceptionally individual and special individual)

OP is called in as for a meeting after sending email as there is a catalogue of similar behaviour and is either dismissed for gross misconduct or its during probation and they don’t need a reason but let her know it’s not working out due to attitude

Obv if only given nuggets by an op must speculate

For anyone that is worried op is probably fine as she has such a thick skin she will never understand what she’s done wrong

hardrainsgonnafall · 22/09/2019 12:06

The OP didn’t ask for employment advice though and if she need help hopefully she’ll be back. She simply wanted to know how bad the email was to the average person, well mumsnetter.

She doesn’t owe anyone here an explanation. I’m sure people would have pm’d her if they have specific skills and want to help.

Personally I think “dark place” 🤔
Is a bit dramatic. People get fired all the time. She made an error of judgement maybe when angry. This too will pass.

MuchBetterNow · 22/09/2019 12:11

People don't get fired "all the time" certainly not in my world. It's widely accepted to be one of the most traumatic things that can happen to you along with bereavement and divorce, worrying about losing your home because you can't pay the mortgage and doubt about getting a decent reference are all very worrying so I very much stand by "dark place".

HeadintheiClouds · 22/09/2019 12:48

I have to agree. Being fired is certainly not a mainstream event by any means. I don’t even know anyone who’s been fired. Redundant, certainly.

Plumnora · 22/09/2019 12:57

Ok so I got fed up of scrolling through this bizarre thread at pg9. Who sent the frickin’ email? The OP or a colleague? It’s a shitty email and v. unprofessionally written, but I’d love to know WTF’s actually going on here!!!!

TheLittleDogLaughed · 22/09/2019 13:17

Plumnora the OP supposedly sent the supposed email to a supposed colleague about a supposed unexplained subject involving supposed prejudice and was supposedly sacked from her supposed job. It's all a load of bullshit though so nothing to understand.

The only part that slightly rings true is that the OP likes red wine.

Bugbabe1970 · 22/09/2019 15:53

Put your big girls pants in
Learn from your mistakes and go get another job!

LiterallyCantBelieveIt · 22/09/2019 17:22

Suspect this thread is going the way of the Victorian safe thread.

MRex · 22/09/2019 18:32

What Victorian safe?

MRex · 22/09/2019 18:33

And I agree firing isn't mainstream at all. Ok my entire career the number of direct firings I've known are incredibly few.

wowfudge · 22/09/2019 18:38

The Victorian safe thread was where the OP was trying to open a safe she found and there was speculation as to what might be in it. She was getting a locksmith to open it, but never came back to the thread and confirmed whether anything had been in it.
