I am a bit of a fan girl of Stacey Dooley. Love her documentaries and now her sleeping over series.
So I feel a bit off asking what people think of her dress sense. I don't understand it, huge baggy tracksuits and those awful earrings.
I may be missing something, is it a fashion thing?, but I have kids her age, and none of their group etc.... dress like that.
Please enlighten this old bag!

Why are you judging her, OP? Not very nice at all. She can wear what she likes!

Rubyupbeat · 19/09/2019 21:15

I am not judging her, nor being detrimentaI, I am asking is it a style?
I only said the earrings are awful, as I wore them back in the day.
I actually admire her for not conforming dresswise.

I find her extremely irritating and faux naive. I like her dress sense though.

Marzipane · 19/09/2019 21:19

You feel a bit off because it's a crappy thing to do. People have different tastes and styles, it's that simple.

PleaseHelpM3 · 19/09/2019 21:20

I love her so hard MN has accused me of being her mum before!

VulcanRay · 19/09/2019 21:20

She definitely has a strong sense of personal style. I like it, oversized, clean lines, kind of scandi, muted colours etc. I also bloody love her hair.

dollydaydream114 · 19/09/2019 21:20

She’s wearing those clothes because she likes them. She probably wouldn’t think much of your wardrobe either. Why does it matter?

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/09/2019 21:25

She's just wearing clothes, I'm assuming she likes them and is comfortable in them.
I'm sure she's very sorry that her out for doesn't meet your fashion requirements.

RitaTheBeater · 19/09/2019 21:28

I like the way she dresses.

familycourtq · 19/09/2019 21:30

I don't notice how she dresses - but am a fan of her documentaries.

Rubyupbeat · 19/09/2019 21:32

Omgoodness...talk about sensitive.
I am asking is it a fashion? Nothing about it being naff.

OP posts:
LolaSmiles · 19/09/2019 21:32

I really like her.
Her clothing isn't my chosen style but it suits her, she's comfy and that's enough for me

Neverender · 19/09/2019 21:34

Stop judging women on what they wear. Full. Stop.

PinkiOcelot · 19/09/2019 21:35

I think some people just like to have a go OP.

Neverender · 19/09/2019 21:35

She's a presenter and a journalist - leave her clothes out of it!

nettie434 · 19/09/2019 21:35

I think it is about her wanting to be very individual. She is not conventional compared to so many journalists who have come from quite privileged backgrounds and I think she just is very self confident about how she wants to look.

I didn't think you were being judgey. It’s just that women on TV are under pressure to look a certain way and she doesn’t. To me, she actually looked fantastic in her Strictly outfits but she seems to think really carefully what she wears, it’s not just a ‘pull on something, I don’t care’ look.

Bunionbandit · 19/09/2019 21:39

For what it’s worth I find her oversized baggy clothes ‘style’ a bit odd and not flattering for her but hey ho up to her. I also find her slightly irritating & think she comes across faux naive as a previous poster said.

AloeVeraLynn · 19/09/2019 21:40

It's not "the fashion" it's just what she likes. For what its worth she seems very keen on clothing and trying different aesthetics, she posts a lot of looks on her instagram.
You obviously are judgemental, may as well come out and be honest rather than dress it up as curiosity.

EmmiJay · 19/09/2019 21:42

She dresses like half the girls, college age in London. Not a fan. Her voice...gah!

ghostyslovesheets · 19/09/2019 21:42

why not post in the style section then?

She is a reporter - she wears clothes

EssentialHummus · 19/09/2019 21:42

I can't stand her presenting style - it's like Louis Theroux meets Scarlett off Gogglebox. I've never noticed her clothes!

sunshinesandwaves · 19/09/2019 21:44

I went to school with Stacey and she is actually tiny so any clothes are likely to look baggy on her.

The styles she wears are very suited to the uber-cool bunch on Instagram, I think it's intended to look like they have thrown it all together when in fact it's taken quite a lot of time!

I do think she shines a light on some really fantastic subject matters through her documentaries! My only slight critique would be she has picked up an East London twang in the way she speaks and we didn't grow up in East London! But she's well travelled since school so I guess she's picked it up...

Gentlemanwiththistledownhair · 19/09/2019 21:49

To those who accuse her of being "faux naïve", surely that's the point? Her interview style is all about allowing the subject to feel comfortable enough to open up without feeling bloke they will be judged. She's had some cracking interviews with some really nasty men and gotten away with asking some very probing questions because they think of her as a naïve girl (rather than the intelligent serious journalist she is).

I think the clothes help with that (fashion isn't associated with serious journalism) and I like that she's managed to find away to dress conservatively, practically and respectfully whilst not sacrificing style. They're obviously very well planned outfits. I do have to agree that I'm not a fan of most of her earrings though!

georgialondon · 19/09/2019 21:50

Hi @Rubyupbeat , if you check out her first ever programme on tv it will give you a good idea. It was about sweatshops etc. I remember reading how this shaped her fashion sense and the types of clothes she buys. It's not to my liking but it explains her stlyle. Smile
